  Atlanta Int Convention 2014:The Big Party. Does this look like WT believes Armageddon is coming "soon"?

  .. if armageddon is "imminent", why is wt focused on sight-seeing, entertainment, travel, etc.

  Heads Up: If you are an older JW, WT has no further use for you!

  wt is retiring district overseers, has sent older jws serving at bethel packing despite years of faithful service, and as of june 1, 2014, has announced that any elder that has reached 80 years of age is no longer valued or wanted as a cobe.

  in wt land it would appear that older people have little or no value, and wt sees no reason to use them in any meaningful capacity.

  i wonder how this makes older ones feel after devoting their lives to wt's interests while shelving their own hopes and dreams?.

  1975 end prediction

  does anyone have the article written by the wt saying that the end would come in 1975?.

  how did people back then come to this year?

  i need this information becuase i was told, this was never literally written by the wt in any publication.. thanks.

  If 1975 chronology wasn't taught, why the back-peddling and new thoughts on the date Eve was created, in a 1976 WT?

  is coming and the elder wanted to set up a visit.

  it's not like i wasn't warned.

  there was a thread that talked about the push to call on inactive ones.. thanks to the heads up here, i knew the motive for the call.. i don't think i even know that eld.

  All the time you don't call them back, this is unfinished business that will play on your mind.
  They may call you at any moment!

  Practise what to say. Write it down if you have to. Something like:

  "Hi, I only have a minute before I have to go out, but wanted to call you back like I said I would.
  I've thought about the visit you mentioned, and to be honest I don't think I want to have one.
  I've got a lot of things going on right now, and this is just one thing too much.
  I hope you understand."

  Then whatever the answer is coming back just repeat
  "I'm afraid I've made my mind up. It's not going to happen."

  If you need to end the call say
  "I'm sorry but I have to rush out, or I'll be late for an appointment."

  Hang up the phone, job done!

  I think that whoever makes the call will have the upper hand, so I would make that call myself.
  Just think how proud you will be of yourself for taking control back!

  This will prevent the newly retired CO's and DO's from taking over as COBE's when they get reassigned to a congregation.

  That will bring them down a peg or two.

  i think she is a hypocrite and i bet she sells her invites to fornicators, or does she ask them if they are having sex before marrige, before she takes their money?.

  i was never like this when i was a jw, it's even more disturbing that she is going to ask her elders what to do.

  11 It may be that some who have been serving God have planned their lives according to a mistaken view of just what was to happen on a certain date or in a certain year. They may have, for this reason, put off or neglected things that they otherwise would have cared for. But they have missed the point of the Bible’s warnings concerning the end of this system of things, thinking that Bible chronology reveals the specific date.

  13 Did Jesus mean that we should adjust our financial and secular affairs so that our resources would just carry us to a certain date that we might think marks the end? If our house is suffering serious deterioration, should we let it go, on the assumption that we would need it only a few months longer? Or, if someone in the family possibly needs special medical care, should we say, ‘Well, we’ll put it off because the time is so near for this system of things to go’? This is not the kind of thinking that Jesus advised.

  15 But it is not advisable for us to set our sights on a certain date, neglecting everyday things we would ordinarily care for as Christians, such as things that we and our families really need. We may be forgetting that, when the “day” comes, it will not change the principle that Christians must at all times take care of all their responsibilities.   16 However, say that you are one who counted heavily on a date, and, commendably, set your attention more strictly on the urgency of the times and the need of the people to hear. And say you now, temporarily, feel somewhat disappointed; are you really the loser? Are you really hurt? We believe you can say that you have gained and profited by taking this conscientious course. Also, you have been enabled to get a really mature, more reasonable viewpoint. Eph. 5:1-17.

  Just like that the WTS leaders washed their hands of this mess. If you sold your house, quit a good job, or gave up a once in a lifetime opportunity; well it sucks to be you. Get over it already.

  1966 "In this twentieth century an independent study has been carried on that does not blindly follow some traditional chronological calculations of Christendom, and the published timetable resulting from this independent study gives the date of man's creation as 4026 B.C.E. So six thousand years of man's existence on earth will soon be up, yes, within this generation." (Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of God, p29, 1966 [Note: 4026 BC to 1975 AD = 6000 years])

  The Proclaimers book tells part of the story:

  *** jv chap. 28 p. 633 Testing and Sifting From Within ***

  This later led to the idea—sometimes stated as a possibility, sometimes more firmly—that since the seventh millennium of human history would begin in 1975, events associated with the beginning of Christ’s Millennial Reign might start to take place then.

  Did the beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses on these matters prove to be correct? Some of their time calculations and the expectations that they associated with these gave rise to serious disappointments.

  Again, in 1975, there was disappointment when expectations regarding the start of the Millennium failed to materialize. As a result, some withdrew from the organization. Others, because they sought to subvert the faith of associates, were disfellowshipped. No doubt, disappointment over the date was a factor...
