Why attack?

as someone brought up as a jw and been an elder and been disfellowshipped (twice!!!

) i find it difficult to understand why ex jws have to attack the religion, yes religion, not cult or sect.

i am no longer disfellowshipped just do not want to practice anymore.

You guessed it, one of his tempting colleagues had a beard.

I'll translate:
"It's starting! Shunning will stop - brochure is first step.

I'm in contact with the service and writing dept's, and this new brochure is the first step. The publishers can't take it anymore. Publishers are depressed because they feel they must shun others and they know it's unloving."

My view is that the new brochure to reach out to those that have left comes from the realisation that increase has all but stopped, and the only audience never previously targeted are those who have gone. They have haemorrhaged millions of people over the last few decades and now want their donations.

Another thread on this topic said the new brochure is really for those already 'in', to show how much the GB care for the lost sheep. I think that's a very valid position as well.

I can see elders being ordered into a special effort in every congregation, checked by the CO, to contact every one who ever used to be a JW.

In response, ex-JW's should be aware of this and use it as an opportunity to expose these elders to TTATT. Find something in the brochure to discuss that sheds light on the falsehoods and danger of the Org - maybe even the scriptural view of shunning itself.

i am sick of being told this same crap after decades of suffering at the hands of wicked men and women, how many of you have had to fight these irrational expectations we are supposed to grin and smile when people are actively trying to screw with us and elders say .

good it is that one should wait, even silently, for the salvation of jehovah (lamentations 3:26; titus 2:13).

my life in the organization has not been entirely bad, there were many good people and plenty of jerks like you all experienced in this adventure we call life.

I would ask them "What do you mean 'Wait for Jehovah'?"

You mentioned in your OP Titus 2:13 "while we wait for the happy hope and glorious manifestation of the great God and of our Savior, Jesus Christ."

This is referring to waiting for Armageddon to come. Ask them "Are you expecting me to wait for Armageddon to come before this will get sorted out?" If they say "No" then ask them what they mean and can they show you a scripture to validate that waiting is in fact the correct thing to do. Discount anything from the Hebrew scriptures - that was replaced by the NT (Col 2:14).

Tell them that you're going to do better than just idly wait, you're going to "Listen to Jehovah" and take some action.

Jehovah tells us what to do through his word, not through the GB.
If we are aware that something is wrong, that's because our Bible trained perception has identified something that needs doing ("go on perceiving what the will of Jehovah is" Eph 5:17)

At the end of the day, this throw away phrase is an excuse to do nothing.

Between 1879 (when the WT was first printed) and 1916 (when he died) CTR used the name "Jehovah" 2241 times in the WT magazine.

This doesn't include the Golden Age references, or any of his books.

Oh Damn...I have been sprung!

i knew it could happen one day...yet i was so careful..... sitting at the sound cabinet, i had our awesome forum open on my tablet, and didn't see the microphone brother looking over at me...... he wandered over and asked me "whats that site?".

i quickly responded "oh, i googled to get to our jw.org site, and this must have popped up" while quickly closing it.... he didn't look too fussed, but my heart was beating..... he is pretty chilled out and certainly not an "uber-dub"...but this was a wake up call to be more careful...i am fading fast, but don't want anymore attention from the nazi-elders while doing so!.

Deplorable Website Promotion

my siblings mother in law died recently, and there was a condolence posted with the borg website.

i googled the name of the poster, and found the same condolence on 100s of funeral home websites!!!

many of these sites dont have mods or a way to report a website promotion.

Some funeral homes have appreciated having some appropriate literature on hand for grieving families. At times, funeral notices appearing in the newspaper have opened the way for writing a brief comforting letter to bereaved family members.

Need Help, what do you do when Elders try to bully you and your family with Lies and threats? I am inactive and hate them now!

i have a elder trying to screw with me because he protects pedophiles and claims they can be rehabilitated.

he's doing his jw attacks while nobody is around because he knows he can lie about me and my family even if there are three witnesses the jw elders don't do squat!

they cower because all the elders are terrified of this bully, he brags about how great his business is but i know so many secrets about him and his wife.

I'm still 'in' as well, although to be fair, you can get good and bad advice from those who are still JW's, those who were JW's and those who have never been JW's. People's JW standing isn't a guarantee of good advice.

Bullies intimidate and overbear on people to control them. If they think they can get away with stuff they will continue to do it. They are entirely selfish and abusive, and enjoy it.

In my view there are two ways to deal with bullies, both of them mean taking it to them.

You can either front him out with a shouting match every time you meet. This is sticking up for yourself. He will fight against you to begin with but will stop when he see's he's no longer controlling you. Don't wait for him to talk to you, every time you see him you go up and give him verbal hell.

You can start recording your conversations while still being submissive to him. Only when you have enough evidence do you start to send bits to him and his friends/family. If you have a real peachy bit, send it to him and tell him you're going to send it to xyz as well.

If the elders get involved tell them you have evidence of his wrongdoing but would rather sort this out between just you and him, and that if the elders continue to badger you without evidence, then you'll just stick all this info in the local paper. Carry a 'solicitors letter' with you saying that you are considering taking action against all individuals who have slandered you or intimidated you, and that will include all those who take his side without evidence. Elders run a mile if they think their wallets are under threat.

In my experience bullies don't stop if you ask nicely. If he ever threatens you tell the police immediately.

You play poker, you know the score.
