  2 Cor 13:1 On the testimony of two or three witnesses every matter must be established.

  There are many more than two or three witnesses to the 1975 false hope. This should be enough to establish the truth of it.

  The Wicked and Sluggish Slave.

  Former explanation:
  The wicked and sluggish slave refers to anointed ones in the 1914 era who refused to share in the preaching work.

  Omitted explanation:
  For decades the wicked and sluggish slave refers to the lazy ones of Babylon the Great.

  Adjusted explanation:
  Jesus was not foretelling that a group of his anointed followers would make up a wicked slave class. Rather, he was warning his followers about what would happen if they thought and acted in a way that would cause him to view them as wicked and sluggish.

  (Proverbs 11:9) By his mouth the apostate brings his neighbor to ruin

  (Romans 5:6) For, indeed, while we were still weak, Christ died for ungodly men
  

  These are both from the NWT, and highlight why you should be consistent with your renderings.
  The same Greek word is used in both of these instances, in one they are an apostate, and in the other Christ dies for them.

  Why they didn't translate Pr 11:9 the same as the other verses around it where that word occurs ("wicked") we can only guess:
  

  (Proverbs 11:5) the wicked one will fall
  (Proverbs 11:7) When a wicked man dies
  (Proverbs 11:8) the wicked one comes in instead of him
  (Proverbs 11:9) By his mouth the apostate brings his neighbor to ruin
  (Proverbs 11:10) when the wicked ones perish
  (Proverbs 11:11) the mouth of the wicked ones

  Jury Service in the UK

  i had always thought the powers that be knew i was a jw and so never called me up for jury service.. today however, i received a summons for jury service.. what is the jw's position on jury service?, what will happen to me when i refuse to swear an oath?.

  In fact if you're an elder you can be jury AND judge.

  opinion filed.. (signed published) the judgment against defendants on the negligence count is affirmed.

  the judgment against watchtower on the cause of action for punitive damages is reversed with directions to enter judgment for watchtower on punitive damages.

  Yes. The WT vet you, train you, organise you and equip you, then you must report back to them your activity and results. If you fail to meet their monthly requirements they interview you and may even sanction you.

  But it is done entirely voluntarily.

  I'm missing something here.

  If this document is not an agreement, then what is it's purpose?
  Are there two parties agreeing a course of action?

  The document says two opposing things in order to appease two different parties:
  1. Medical staff will provide treatment that may include a blood transfusion.
  2. [The parents] signature is not an agreement for blood transfusions.

  So the parents signature will allow a blood transfusion to occur, even if the parent is not in agreement with it.

  This lets a JW parent save the life of their child while insulating themselves from WT sanctions afterwards.
  By signing the form the parent is agreeing to the conditions set out on the form.

  you have all been an immense help to me as i have come to realize that this isn't the truth so i want to say a great big thank you!

  what a crazy, emotional ride it is to finally face the truth about the doubts that i have carried for many years.

  TTTE They have made major blunders and mistakes

  When other religions make 'blunders and mistakes' the WT condemn them as 'false religious philosophies', 'false doctrines' and 'nauseating teachings'.

  When WT makes 'blunders and mistakes' they are described as 'misplaced zeal', 'old truths' and 'cherished errors'.

  (Mt 7:1-5) "for with what judgment YOU are judging, YOU will be judged; and with the measure that YOU are measuring out, they will measure out to YOU."
  

  Let me explain something to you.
  Your average JW does not believe the Bible, they believe whatever the GB says the Bible means.
  When the GB change their minds, so do 7 million JW's. They are that fickle and shallow.

  If you disagree, please start a new thread defending the overlapping generations using the Bible.
  Or the concept of New Scrolls.

  cappytan has it right.

  Under "scheduled actions" there is a Remittitur issued with a date of 15th June.

  This is an instruction to lower the punitive damages.

  There will still be punitive damages, however.

  As a group JWs ARE the only ones trying to do what God requires despite all their faults and misunderstand of many many texts.
  

  Supposing you had a doctor that tried to do what the medical profession requires, but constantly harmed people instead. You take the doctors advice and follow a course of medication only to be told later that that was wrong, you should have been on different medication. You switch medication according to the doctors advice, then find he had misadvised you and the first medication was actually correct.

  You confront the doctor and he denies he told you anything different even though you have the paperwork to prove it. Then he reports you to the police for slander and the community kick you out.

  You later learn that the Dr. has done the same thing to thousands of other ill patients, some of them dying as a result of the malpractise.

  Would you be singing that Dr.'s praises, telling people to grow up and not look for the bad because some people were helped?
  Tread carefully - you are in a room full of abused patients who have personally experienced the harmful effects of the WT and can prove to you that the WT is as flawed as any other religion.

  What's that famous illustration about one drop of poison in a glass of water? No doubt you apply it to other religions. If you refuse to see that it applies equally to the WT then you are deceiving yourself. Good luck with your mental health - I know a good doctor you might want to try.
