The irony about Iran is: it would be interesting to know how Iran would be today if the United States hadn't meddled in it's internal matters decades ago.

New Chapter, I hope I can explain what I mean. Sometimes it's not so easy for me to clearly express my thoughts. What I mean is taking ourselves, as individuals too serious, or rather not to do so. I differentiate between that and taking issues and a cause serious. Because I don't take myself as an individual that serious I can deal with being wrong and respect others and what they think and am willing and open to consider what they think. But it doesn't mean that I don't take issues serious that need to be addressed, it doesn't mean that I'm not watchful. Quite contrary. I differentiate between myself and principles/issues. Lets take the hotheads in the middle east as an example. They are crazily serious about their views (fundamental Christians aren't that different). Just because I don't take myself as a person and my views overly serious it doesn't mean that I wouldn't stand up against them, I would, I do. We all have the freedom and right to have our own opinion and views, but we have the duty to grant others the same freedom. When others don't abide by that it's a matter of principle and that needs to be addressed and taken care of. It's an issue that needs to be taken serious, as you said and I fully agree with that. I hope I'm making sense. You could say one is about taking personal offense and the other about justice and fairness. When things become a matter of fairness and justice it's important to do something about it.
Ideally we should all be able to sit down and listen to each other and say: "Hey, I don't feel or think the same way, but who knows, you may be on to something. Either way, I respect your view and how you feel." And we should confront those who are unwilling to do that. But that's another story, usually those unwilling have a problem with fairness.
Btw, I'm not sour.

If I don't take my beliefs too serious I will be more inclined to respect your beliefs and views. And I will be open to question mine and listen if you question mine. It's easier to give others the benefit of the doubt that way. With a mentality like that fewer people would even think about shooting others or worry about anti-blasphemy laws.
Where did I say that things don't matter or that anyone should dismiss things? You seem to be reading more into my words than necessary.
Outlaw evangelism.
You have my full support!

Aggression is defensive? I didn't watch any further when he said that. Thinking that is silly. It's also tiresome that all people who are religious are considered to be inable to take criticism, it's just not true. I'm religious but am very critical of religion as in institutions myself. And I don't mind if others who are Atheists dish out. Pat Condell takes himself far too seriously, as too many people do. That's the root of the problem, it's not whether you believe in God or not, it's taking yourself and whatever you believe in too seriously.

A Mormon becomes a JW in the Feb 2013 Watchtower...
by cedars inglancing through the feb 2013 "public" watchtower edition, an interesting article appears on page 8.. here is the pdf download link.... http://www.jw.org/download/?fileformat=pdf&issue=20130201&output=html&pub=wp&langwritten=e&option=trgchlzrqvnyvrxf&txtcmslang=e.
it's interesting how, in the story, the young man's jw aunt and uncle switch him from mormonism to the jw faith using third-party material (the nov 8, 1995 awake!
article), and he ends up becoming a jw after confirming on the official mormon website that the claims in the awake!

Not even members are deserving of charity. Everytime I think the WTS can't surprise me anymore I find out something new that makes me sick. And they manage to use and misuse everything for publicity stunts.

Are You Ever Tempted To Talk To JWs When You See Them?

moshe: For me, talkin' to JWs is easy peasy--Here is moshe's car group on Thanksgiving day on 2010- I just showed up at the KH and went through the motions as I remembered them- they let me join them just like I was a JW on vacation, as must happen regularly in FL- but they never asked me, if I was one. The JWs went through the motions of doing field service- but they only talked to a few people and just offered a lame presentation and some literature, that nobody accepted- but they got 2 hours in! They are not the hard hitters in field service that I remember from 25 years ago-- The guy on the left was a little suspicsious of me, wasn't he?
Moshe, just to be sure, since I don't know all the backgrounds (being new here). You're an exJW and you went out in field service? Just for fun?

My mother passed away this morning...
by Tatiana infor any old-school ex-jws here that remember my many posts about my abusive jw mother and my sister committing suicide because of it...she passed away this morning because she began to bleed out and refused a transfusion.
she had been in the hospital for a month.
it appears she suffered a stroke and wasn't found by the brothers & sisters for three days (they missed her at the meetings).

Tatiana, I wish I could say more than just "sorry". I read the three threads you posted and can only imagine how many thoughts and emotions you must be dealing with right now. Hopefully you will have peace very soon. You are a kind person.
