would you, in good conscience, accept part of a car tht you know to be stolen.
someone comes up to you and ofers you a cheap tyre but you know they took it of a car they stole.
you know stealing is wrong.
Would you, in good conscience, accept part of a car tht you know to be stolen. Someone comes up to you and ofers you a cheap tyre but you know they took it of a car they stole. for example?
You probably would not. You know stealing is wrong. It does not get any less wrong if you are just having part of the thing that was stolen. You cannot really reason that it is not the whole car anymore.
Well, according to the WTS, accepting blood is wrong. When blood is removed from the body it is to be "poured out" or destroyed.
Yet most Witnesses would accept a fraction. Most witnesses would reason that the fraction is not the whole blood. They would reason it is not the thing that was prohibated any more.
The reality is however that th blood, according to WT doctrine, belongs to Jehovah. It is his. If you do not pour it out then you are stealing it. It is not yours. Witnesses recognise this as they will not donate blood.
Yet they will accept the stolen tyre. They will accept something that only is there because the blood was stolen.
What is worse they try and claim that once it is broken down it is no longer stealing.
Hypocrites.
hello, .
will anyone be posting live updates via twitter or on jwn during the agm?
cheers, .
They are turning off the WiFi in the halls they are using.
in talking to sparky the elder today (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/263862/1/an-elder-called-me-hes-waking-up-and-knew-id-understand-nice-for-him-to-have-a-friend) i found out he did the accounts for our congregation for years.
he said very rarely did the congregation meet its expenses without some well-off brother chipping in a few grand here and there.
the elders would also make up the shortfall.
Don't feed the troll.

Hey skinned - good luck with that. 100% guarenteed that they will explicity forbid the use of electronic devices.
If you use one then someone will shop you. It happened to me at an MS school.
I can even imagine them getting the MS to take away phones on the way in! Not saying it will happen, but wouldn't put it past them.
I reckon turning on a recording app on a phone before you go in is the best option.

Well, here is a flavour of what is being said on JWTalk...
They are LAPPING it up...
Jasmin, interesting thought ~ wonder if they get nervous...
if they ever lose sleep over the many workings of our worldwide
organization and the role they hold in this time of the end...
they always appear so calm and cool
will be praying for all you dear friends
also for those 8 very special ones tonite
Hmmm. It was announced Sunday we would get more information tonight at our mid week meeting. It is going to be day after tomorrow! Now, isn't this the most exciting thing!!! We get to be a part of theocratic history.
I strongly suspect my friend, the iPad will not be doing duty come Saturday morning.
So much effort has to have been put in by our brothers. Lots of prayers of thanks will go to Jehovah, and also prayers asking for his help in this gigantic event.
The hours are not too bad. Sort of like a circuit assembly. Our, " intermission" is song an announcements. I want to say a letter was read last night. Not so. Just the time, place, and publishers, baptized or not are invited. I was waiting for them to say something about electronic devices. Nothing was said. The sister I ride with to the meetings and I talked it over. I had decided not to bring my iPad. She said if you don't bring it, and are allowed to use it, you will be sorry. She is right. I have a purse that is designed to carry an iPad, discreetly. I will use that purse. But, even taking it into the hall makes me squimish. I will think about it.
I wish all of us could be trusted to take notes, electronically, and not record. If that is the GB's decision, no recording. I know if I recorded against protocol, I would almost feel apostate. It would take so much from what is going on. To me, it would be like being an invited guest, and then stealing from the host.
There was an assumption that the program would be broadcasted. Like for ones who sit in their vehicles and listen to the meetings. I thought to myself, I do not think that will happen.
Tomorrow is the day! It is so exciting! Travel safe everyone! Listen, obey, and be blessed!
so true. Br Splane spoke at our DC last month.
his last talk went long. afterward his closing prayer went long.
then he & his wife hung around talking with us...
we were so late getting out of the Sundome.
yet no one was complaining
We will be watching a video re-run on Sunday morning (UK).
I look forward to something new coming out. But what if it was something totally unxepected?
Not that i am expecting anything like these hypothetical suggestions, but for arguments sake, what it they announce:
1) an extensive rewrite of the Bible,
2) Bringing back seven day conventions
3) a new ("way-out") scriptural thought, such as the 24 elders being literal, or the sign of the son of man being a literal visible manifestation of Jesus
4) Armageddon is coming in 2014,
5) Reintroducing a third weekly meeting
Wouldnt that be something
I honestly think that it must be a very important and historic meeting that they want put out there within 24 hours.... so exciting
too exciting!
earlier this week I asked the brothers if those in asst living/ hospice/ stay-at-home elderly
would be able to phone in to listen to AM.
they said prob not.
then this afternoon, they phoned me with the dial-in # and the code!
so now our dear fragile ones will also join in the feast of the worldwide brotherhood!!
I went to visit each of them and they are so very excited too!
our elders came through! they do so much

Hi George,
Location will make a difference. Our congregation was in similar situation, not quite as generous, but not bad.
Then we had a quick build. Our loan to the society is more than our income at the moment - and they will essentially own it at the end of process.
Regardless, the expenses are cared for by the minority of the congregation. I also know, from my accounts servant days, that very, very few (including pretty much no elders/ms) took advantage of Gift Aid. This was the anecdotal experience of other congregations where I spoke with the servants at schools/assemblies etc. I bet that less than 50% of any congregation donate reguarly. If your congregation is cash rich it is probably because there are a few wealthy individuals rather than due to the generosity of the majority.
You should take a look at the accounts for the Surrey Assembly Hall. They make twice as much as they spend. We should see a 50% reduction in the charge to use the hall but what we get is an accounts report each assembly that makes it sound like we owe them loads.
All the best!

searcher said....
Lehman Brothers were a bigger concern financially than WTBTS. What happened to them came out of the blue to everyone but those at the top - in the 'know'.
AIG, (needed major bail-out) Woolworths became extinct, and Greece, Italy, and Portugal are all surviving, thanks solely to the world banking system. The WTBTS does not have such 'knights in shining armour' ready to bail them out of a catastrophic financial crisis, and that's why I fully expect some drastic and out-of-the ordinary begging letters from HQ for cash in the coming months!
The 'Black Swan Theory' springs to mind!
I completely agree that you should never say never. Large financial organisations have crashed and the Euro crisis is a case in point about how quickly things can change. Each of these does have causes and the common thread in the type of crashes you have mentioned is basically down to long standing financial mismanagement - spending more than you earn and getting you debts called in.
Now, it may be true that the GB are syphoning off cash into offshore accounts and that they know there isn't enough money to go round. It may be the case that there is alot of "creative accounting" going on and the org is months or less away from pauperism but my gut says not. My gut (backed up by looking at the published accounts available in the UK) suggests they have significant assets and a significant income monthly from donations.
I am not saying they are not spending too much. I am not saying that the donations situation is sustainable. I not even arguing they will never be in financial turmoil. I am certainly not attacking Julia or her post. Check my earlier post to see that I am not knocking what is happening on the ground. I am just saying that their setup is not the same as the circumstances that lead to events such as those searcher has highlighted. I therefore suggest that unless something material changes they are unlikely to plummet into financial freefall.
The material change could be a large number of high profile and high cost child abuse cases. Even if this were to happen however, the society has a proven track record of spinning these type of things out for years and years. They could also play the persecution card, prompting the membership to donate more and entrenching a position that prevents a mass walkout.
Another material change could be a mass walkout (fundamentally what happened to Lehman, along with the subprime exposure) but all the evidence around cultish cog diss is that this simply does not happen. The majority stick around.
It is true to say they don't have world banks to bail them out but they do have millions of people. The only problem is they don't all contribute. You can bet your life however that if the WTS pleaded persecution and the need for support, especially at a special meeting, then they would be queuing up.
