Agree with everything you say Terry but I do want to point out that there are vast numbers of people who are not providing for their futures simply because they cannot afford it. Of course the culture of the WTS exacerbates this amongst JWs but the general economic climate can be used to obfuscate the issue you raise and deflect the blame away from the low secular aspiration message implicit to JW doctrine.

THE BLIND SPOT identifying the refuting target of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Terry inthe life of a human being progresses toward maturity and peaks and then gradually atrophies into old age, inability, possibly debilitation and then death.. it is the same for all people unless they meet with an accident or misfortune along that continuum.. i propose that we measure and test the virtue of being a jehovah's witness by focusing on the blind spot of their religion.. .
what is the blind spot?.
the watchtower society is in major denial that the members of that religion will actually grow old and die.. as a consequence of this major blind spot the members are less likely to include provisions for that inevitability.. the active and committed jw spends a preponderance of their vital years serving the needs of the group and not for saving for old age.. once that outstanding performance lessens and fizzles into decrepitude--the society itself makes no provision for their senescence.. .

by konceptual99 inhaving just found this gem with leolaia's superb post with 18 reasons the flood of noah's day is a myth..... http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/222593/1/did-the-global-flood-of-the-bible-really-happen-please-give-evidence.
... i wondered what topics going back through the archives should be must reads for anyone coming to jwn?
what topics/posts should be made sticky (if that ever where to be a possibility)?.

Bumped - just stumbled on this thread. Leolaia's post is one of the best comments debunking the notion of a global flood I've read anywhere on the web. If and when we get stickies on here then this post should be right up there.

100 Years of Disappointment on the Horizon
by mrquik ineven as an elder, i had doubts as to this being "the one true religion".
i personally had chosen 2014 as one of those "make or break" dates.
fortunately, i left years ago.

@blind_of_lies - great observations
I suspect the WTS will do absolutely bugger all about 2014. From my current position of approved inactivty (!) I don't think anyone who is mentally in gives two hoots so why would the WTS do anything to draw attention to it. I cannot see any major exodus so why prompt peoples' thinking?
I can see more articles on loyalty, trust in the WTS and faux urgency to try keep people from letting any negative thoughts turn into action as well as build a mental rejection of any that do raise doubts or concerns. Which is pretty much business as usual...

Is this true?
by Amelia Ashton inhttps://www.home.no/carloc/co.html.
the verdict is in!.
almost all of the anti-jehovah's witness organization have been completely quiet about the arrest and detention of the person in denmark who posted on the "yourselves and to all of the flock", and the society's other secret documents, in violation of international copyright laws.

Eocene Greenhouse Period
by konceptual99 inso the latest awake mentions the following:.
fossilized pollen and spores recovered from seabed sediment reveal that the antarctic once supported palms and near-tropical forests.
during the so-called eocene greenhouse period, winters were mild and essentially frost-free and temperatures at the poles were not vastly different from those at the equator.. i suspect this is referring to the following research:.

So the latest Awake mentions the following:
Fossilized pollen and spores recovered from seabed sediment reveal that the Antarctic once supported palms and near-tropical forests. During the so-called “Eocene greenhouse period,” winters were mild and “essentially frost-free” and temperatures at the poles were not vastly different from those at the equator.
I suspect this is referring to the following research:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-19080850
I also suspect the Watching The World snippet is implying that the world used to have a more constant temperature as per the Witness myth re the pre flood water canopy. It's a shame therefore that the samples they refer to are 50 million years old. I guess they assume that few people will actually bother typing "Eocene greenhouse period" into google....

New light Watchtower magazine leaked from organization weeks ahead of general release
by cedars inhttp://jwsurvey.org/governing-body-2/new-light-watchtower-magazine-leaked-from-organization-weeks-ahead-of-general-release.
if doctrinal explanations are missing from the article, it is because they are also missing from the magazine.. i would like to give my thanks again to my source for supplying me with the magazine article weeks ahead of its scheduled release.
it showed remarkable courage, because risks were taken.

@gingerbread - I think you can call out anyone who says the GT might start in the next century. I don't have the references to hand but off the top of my head the following currently applies:
- generational overlap is limited to one overlap
- some of the anointed now living will see the GT start
- there will be no successor to the Anglo American world power (feet of mixed clay/iron)
The last one is not so much time limited but is anyone likely to suggest that the UK and the US will dominate world politics in 100 years time given the rise of all the other powers?
If I get a chance I will put some references up in a seperate thread.

Thanks for the work Cedars. This raises lots of doctrinal questions and really is, as you say, a maze.
In some ways, however, it's just a shuffling of papers. There is lots of bluster but no substance to this "new light". It serves to consolidate the position of the GB as masters who must be obeyed but where does it leave the "truth" about God's purposes? Does it make any difference to the timing of Armageddon? Does it shed any new light on the "last days" or the "generations"? Does it provide new information on current world events in the context of Biblical prophesy? It doesn't even seem to explain why it would take well over 100 years for God's organisation to form and come up with ever changing explainations of the Bible yet still be considered faithful enough for less than 10 people to be considered as providing the right food at the right time.
The whole thing to me is yet further justification that the whole thing is a bunch of utter mumbo jumbo yet I can see this being lapped up by the masses and something they view as making perfect sense.

First mention of "new light" may appear in July 15, 2013 Watchtower
by cedars ina trusted source informs me that the "new light" about the faithful slave is to make its first printed appearance in the july 15th watchtower, which should be available for download online three weeks from now, on around april 15th.. i'm led to believe that the references to the new understanding are made in such a manner as to suggest the "new light" isn't that new at all, which suggests to me that little or no effort is being made to explain the doctrinal connotations.
my source and i are hoping to get a key paragraph posted at the earliest opportunity.
watch this space!.
