Of course it's the case that if you no longer follow the WTS then you are not unevenly yoked however never underestimate the potential for trouble with the elders further down the line if you pop up on the radar once again. If they get wind of of where you live and what you are doing then it's not unknown for some elders to vindictively pursue individuals.

Becoming "unevenly yoked" ?
by Blttex ini haven't been to a meeting in about a year, made up my mind about six months ago that jw's are just another religion and that its not for me.
started dating a "worldly" girl 10 months ago and got engaged this past weekend.
i'm having a hard time deciding who to invite to the wedding.

The fornication issue will be the one the elders will most likely get all hand wringing about but with no evidence (two witnesses or circumstantial such as your finance coming out of you house at 7 in the am) they can do little. However, beware of them forming a JC to investigate the matter and then you not attend. That is a sneaky way that has been used to DF.
There are no rules preventing witnesses from attending a wedding of one "marrying out of the Lord" but elders, ms and pioneers would likely lose privileges.

NEW UK BETHEL - START SAVING
by St George of England ina letter was read tonight at the meeting with this information.. apparently, three years ago the gb authorised the uk bethel to consolidate all the uk resources.
so far over 300 sites have been looked at but more information will be forthcoming.. in the meantime we can work to this end by saving so that we can contribute to the new facility.. also skilled and unskilled trades people can register for volunteer work, collect an application form from the secretary.. to me it seems like they are going to move out of london (mill hill, bittacy hill etc), get a cheaper area, pay for the new facility with donations and free labour.
they will then sell all the high value property and probably send the money to the us.

I almost fell off my chair when the first line was "start saving". Given the property values in that part of North London they would make millions from selling up. Anyone who donates to that effort is really casting pearls before swine.
The other interesting thing about it was they said to make donations to the WWW fund. This of course is general so any money put in there can be used for anything.
I think someone should start writing a version of the Private Eye "The Directors" strip....

I'm not much of a cricket fan but this ashes series has been a joy. I love stuffing the aussies 'cos it makes up for all the snorting we've faced for years from Warne, Hughes, Pointing et al. In the words of the legendary Lance Corp. Jack Jones..."They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring"

Jehovahs Witnesses mentioned in the Metro today

If you look at the original study the data is even more interesting. JW's are amongst the most "edit war" affected entries globally.

Whats the most damning of the July 15 2013 changes?
by Crazyguy ina lot of the rank and file at the meetings seem to think some of the changes make more sense but what is the most damning of the changes that may help to wake to some up.
some thing the rank and file will not first see or understand as a big deal?.

Agree with everything on here except the apostolic succession.
I understand why this is being promoted as an argument but it's not quite the same is it?
As I understand it, AS in simplistic Catholic terms means the individual Bishop becomes consecrated through ordination and therefore carries the "correct" teaching.
Surely the argument with the F&DS is that this is a "class" and the individual members of the GB have no special consecration other than being of the 144,000. It's the body that represents God's channel and the individuals are essentially irrelevent. Although the semantics of when the F&DS was appointed and which group of people are represented by the class has changed, the idea of the body being appointed by God has not.
Surely the idea of AS could equally have been applied to the 144,000 when they made up the F&DS?
Am I missing something in this argument?

Britain | Jehovah's Witnesses hushed up child sex scandal | July 16, 2013
by jwleaks inchurch officials hushed up a child sex scandal in their ranks and refused to co-operate with police.. .
jehovah witness ministerial servant gordon leighton admitted sexually abusing a child when he was confronted by his church elders, a court heard.. but during the official police investigation, the 53-year-old who made headlines in the 1990s when wife yvonne, 28, died after refusing a blood transfusion after childbirth on religious grounds denied any illegal wrongdoing.. and when detectives asked elders simon preyser, harry logan and david scott to make statements about the confession, all three refused and said what they had heard was confidential.. for three years, the elders refused to co-operate with the criminal investigation and kept up that stance when the case was brought before newcastle crown court after the victim made a complaint to police.. each was issued with a witness summons which they fought to overturn before being ordered to testify by judge penny moreland citing public interest.. their barrister richard daniels said the men had a duty to god not to breach confidence.. he added: privileged communication between members of the congregation and ministers is an absolute right and duty and there is no power in law to breach such a confidence.. judge moreland said: it is apparent that the three elders who were present when this conversation took place are in possession of relevant evidence as to a point which is of real significance in this case.. they claim the right of confidentiality, they claim that what they heard said by the defendant during the course of that meeting ought to be subject to privilege, as ministers of religion.. judge moreland refused to withdraw the summonses and said: public interest is clearly in favour of this evidence being given.. what was said by the defendant on that occasion is of great significance in the trial.. despite the judges ruling, the men still refused to make statements to police until just hours before they were called before the jury.. leighton, who has since been expelled from the church at lambton kingdom hall in washington, denied two charges of indecency with a child and seven of indecent assault.. he was yesterday found guilty of two charges of indecency with a child and six of indecent assault.
he was found not guilty of one indecent assault charge, on the direction of the judge.. he was remanded in custody until he is sentenced next month but warned he is facing a lengthy spell behind bars.. prosecutor katherine dunn told the court the victim, who is now an adult, broke her silence in 2009.. the court heard how at a special church meeting, leighton admitted sexual abuse and made excuses for his behaviour.. miss dunn said: the elders conducted their own investigation.

At the risk of being accused of being an apologist's apologist on this most sensitive subject, I think I can see where Prime is coming from in as much as the suggestion seems to be that since we don't have a mandatory law on reporting accusations or suspicions here in the UK then it could be claimed that the WT society and the elders are able to follow whatever process they like without it being illegal. There is no doubt that being wrongly publicly accused of being a pedophile can have significant and lasting effects on a person's personal and professional life.
My view is that this of course means that everything becomes a befuddled mess. I see evidence that some elders do let their own moral compass compel them to do the right thing but this is the exception and therefore allows this situation of a "pedo paradise" to exist. It is certainly not clear that the approach of the Society is anything other than a way of trying to protect the reputation of the organisation. What the Society refuses to realise is that it's authoritarian culture breeds an army of weak minded and subserivant elders who simply lose sight of the bigger picture in their compulsion to follow direction. The only people that suffer are the victims.
It is shocking that the Society is happy to hide behind a suggestion that victims are never prevented from reporting an accusation themselves is sufficient. There is no direction to ensure the victim does this. There is no direction to support them in doing so. There is no direction to even make the suggestion. There is no direction to ensure the victim is assured of the Elders' support in doing this. There is every chance that this option will not be freely offered. There is every chance that this option will be presented with very strong overtones of disapproval. There is every chance that any elder who acts in a decisive and morally sound way shall lose the support of the majority, if not all, of his fellows and even the branch.
I can see an argument that in the absence of a law complelling disclousre of any accusation, every organisation has the right to implement processes as it sees fit and there should be some acknowledgement of the dangers of false or even malicious finger pointing. What I cannot see is that anyone can realistically defend the WTS approach and not be prepared to admit that it is fundamentally flawed to the point where it is entirely feasible that a pedophile could be left to continue to offend right under the noses of Elders who have every knowledge of the rishk that person poses.

At what age can a JW be baptised in the UK?
by jwfacts ini just received an email from an unbaptised publisher that made the following comment;.
in the uk the age of consent by law for a child is 16 and only then can they be baptized of their own free will.
is anyone aware of jws that have been baptised younger than 16 in the uk?.

There was a kiddie on the platform at Brighton last week who was baptised at some silly young age. They made a point of saying how getting baptised at such a young age was a protection and how parents should be encouraging their kids to get baptised. There was a girl who looked pretty young (12-13 perhaps) who was one of the 49 who got baptised.
