I'm not one for these subliminal images but it is isn't it? It's a giant knob.

Your donations at work: WT Farms “inspirational” corn maze
by betterdaze in“best life ever” is displayed at watchtower farms, near pine bush.
the jehovah’s witnesses' maze is a work of devotional art, and not intended for exploration like the pagan ones made for hudson valley tourists every halloween.

This week's "Give Us Your Money" meeting item.
by freddo inif you went to it, (or go later this week) how was it handled?
just the video or some commentary too?.
i have heard of a few negative comments from some that attended - one jw even openly said to me "not very encouraging, all they go on about is money lately" and another (a serving elder, no less) said "someone's got to pay for all those lawsuits".

Just watched the segment from the meeting and noted a couple of points.
Firstly the premise of the video was that there a new way of donating via the website and this had raised some questions. I guess this could be a reasonable thing to discuss but of course much of the video was on the many other ways giving can be done, especially the end of life stuff which is the bigger ticket stuff in terms of value.
The other thing was that of course every Witness is going to die eventually. By encouraging EOL donations they are tapping into a source of income that reflects the failure of their own doctrine. I suspect the irony escapes the majority of course.

"Deficit" at JW Assembly
by cookiemaster ini've recently been at an assembly here in romania and there was an announced they were running a 10,000 euro deficit and urging all attendees to donate more money besides the already 5k has was donated during that day.
i really don't understand these things.
it's their own assembly hall.

I doubt it RO. It's very hard to prove since there are only verbal announcements and it would be very easy to demonstrate on paper that the assembly is indeed in deficit. It's how they justify to themselves they are not lying.
There is nothing preventing a charity from having income greater than expenses, indeed it's a pretty sensible fiscal policy.

Shunning: Extreme apathy!
by StephaneLaliberte ini thought i'd share this one with the group.
many years ago, my mom was disfellowshipped.
then, my sister passed away in a car accident, she was fairly young, as she was in her early 20s.

Yes - sorry Xant, I don't mean to be flippant about those that are affected and the deaths are tragic however I have a friend in Belfast atm and he says it's actually that serious there, just like a bad storm. The thing is it's hyped up as some kind of show stopping weather event but compared to the devastation that the proper hurricanes have brought to the Caribbean and southern US or the forest fires in California, this will have far less long term impact for the vast majority of people.
I am in the south east of the UK and there is hardly a strong wind, just a lovely red tinged deep cloud earlier.

Not withstanding the tragic deaths in Ireland, it is a bit like this overall...

£120,000 contributions, £94,000 expenses and depreciation of £134,000. Seems like a loss. So much for assemblies generating huge income for Watchtower.
Could be but there is alot hidden in there such as "costs of generating voluntary income" - approx £134k - which is not part of the running costs. What the hell is this? I think it's down elsewhere as "support costs" that was carried over from the previous year. Could be costs of plant perhaps? I am sure a forensic accountant could work it out. Either way you can bet your life the dubs are paying over the odds.
Take a look the Surrey Assembly Hall - flagship money maker.

It continues to generate about twice as much as it spends.

cookie/are you serious - you've said some truths there. My father was responsible for circuit funds and he says exactly the same thing. It's not about there being some scandal of the halls making a profit, it's the way that the dubs are conned into thinking there is a deficit. If the announcement was transparent then there would be a lot less giving at the assembly.

Given that in the UK all the assembly hall accounts are available on line through the charity commission and the scam is obvious it should surprise me that more have not woken up to this. The reality is of course that individuals don't care even when it's pointed out. They are just happy the money can go to the branch.
