Now you have listed a dozen or more other faiths that apparently refuse to go to war. Not sure that half these have been tested in the world wars or since but supposing they are the next test is how many of them preach christianity around the world.

history is my favourite subject and i'd like to maybe try something i wouldn't normally pick up.
has anyone read any really good history books recently they would recommend?.
It depends what era your're looking at. Personally i love history and read ancient history because i like to see whether it corroborates the bible or not. Generally it does. Later history is not something i can comment on.
If your looking for ancient history i would definately recommend anything by herodotus especially the Histories.
If your looking at jewish histories around year dot then i suppose josephus but that bored me a little.
The Annals of Imperial Rome by Tacitus paints a good picture of the 1st century after christ Perhaps marginally better than josephus for interest.
The above are all ancient writers.
If your looking at modern historians commentating on ancient history i hear H.G Wells wrote some interesting stuff. Also i have not read Isaac Newtons stuff but apparently he wrote more about religion and history than he did about science. I am looking to read these two in the near future.
Gods, graves, and scholars written by W Ceram half a century ago is a good overview of archeological finds over the past 4 centuries.

Accept your point but it is a mute one. The dead sea scrolls demonstrate that whilst word for word the early hebrew books today are not identical to what was written way back when, the message is the same. It is like reading a match report of the same sports event from two different reporters. Essentially they will both agree on the same result and main points. They may differ in wording.
I have studied ancient history and can only say that the bible is very well corroborated by secular history and vice versa. Did you know for example that the remains of the tower of babel was found some 200 years ago. Did you know a fragment exists dated milleniums old which corroborates the splitting of the languages back at Babel? Did you know that in the area of the cities sodom and gomorah there are vast salt planes with the said salt deposits some 150ft deep. Did you know herodotus recounts how sennacheribs army of hundreds of thousands of men was wiped out in one night by apparently unknown forces? Have you read herodotus account of the egytians which would seem to tie in with the history around the time of joseph? The facts written about joseph in the bible almost fit perfectly with the egyptian record albeit from an alternate perspective. The historical accuracy to the minute detail is staggering when you compare it.
The possibility that there are a few missing scriptures and word variation from the original documents is not sufficient to undermine the credability of the bible or my faith. If you had read what i had you would feel the same - maybe.
for my cong, apart from those moving in, we last had an elder appointed 16 years ago.. we last had some ms's appointed about 3 years ago.. our boe are getting old, 3 in their 80's, 1 in his 70's and three in their 60's.. they all work hard, but when their time comes, they deteriorate quickly.. splash.
