Like Family? Yes, like a large, judgemental, Dysfunctional Family.
Really, when you look at the families that make up the "brotherhood" is it any wonder its a dysfunctional mess?
i was wondering do you ever miss certain jw's?
i mean not all but just some, becuase even though we may rant and rave against jw's at times.
we have to remeber that for those that were born in the jw's theywere like family.which is why it is so hard at for me to let go completely.. although i have been out for about 5 yrs and it feels good.

how often did i hear those words at circuit or district assemblies - that pioneering was the best job in the world?
how often did i hear a fake job advert for pioneering where there was 100% job satisfaction working for the most powerful person in the universe and you'd get to travel the world and live forever.... i've done both jobs and would say that the job advert should more honestly read like this:.
secular job.
Pioneering=
Driving around. Coffee breaks. Chatting at the kingdom hall. Gossipping in car groups. "encouraging" the weak and inactive. "Studying" with the mentally ill and/or mentally handicapped. Driving around parking lots to do "alternative" witnessing. Guilt for not getting your time. Lying about how much time you spent in the "ministry". Cleaning jobs. Walmart part time. Paying for the C.O. to eat and drink. Never getting to sit down during a convention or assembly. Being constantly told you're a qualified teacher and NEVER feeling like one. Joy beyond belief teaching someone how to live forever. Shame and embarrassment when the teaching changes and you have to explain to the same people the B.S. of "an overlapping generation". (once a man looses his conviction, its better he never open his mouth again in support of something he no longer believes.)
How a parent can push thier child to pioneer is beyond me. The kid will waste his time (because most kids love doing that), drive around looking for ways to waste time, eat too many french fries, and pretend to knock on doors. JW youth are some of the most uninitiated and directionless people I've ever met. They are fed the lie, eat it because everything else is identified as poison, continue eating because that's all they're being fed, and wake up at some point so starved they'll eat ANYTHING, just because it's different. Their parents took them as far as Pioneering and expected Jehovah and the Organization to do the rest....Matt 6:33, right?
As others have mentioned, this thread brings up so much...and a little venting is bound to happen. We gave our youth to what turned out to be, at BEST an ORGANIZATION. At worst a haven for pedophiles. I'm sure the truth about it is somewhere in the middle.

i'm interested in this girl and shes a jw.
i went to the meetings and i was bored out of my mind.
i can see how the religion is very appealing to people.
Hey dude...
Where do you see this going? It won't be casual, or simple. There will be a huge amount of drama. I'm sure she is a very nice woman and very naive. You're getting involved in something very complicated. Listen to the warnings from the other posters...they're valid.
Figure out why you're attracted to her then find a woman who doesn't have the baggage of one of Jehovah's Witness who is going to college, flitring with you, hot then cold. She has no idea what she's doing. The "religion" teaches you are going to be destroyed by Jehovah if you don't accept the religion...hook line and sinker.
It's not worth it. You'd be signing up for years of drama. Are you ready to be one of JW's for the rest of your life? You will be hounded and recruited by everyone and their dog till you are.
If you pursue this come back to this site 2 years from now and re read the posts. You'll see what we are talking about.
Smart people learn from their mistakes. Wise people learn from mistakes made by others. Be wise.
because i was abroad we had to use the original revelation book and only the reader had the new improved version so i don't know if this was the same else where but following along using the old version made the adjustments seem even more ludicrous.. why didn't they ensure everyone had the new version before studying it rather than highlight all the "adjustments" that had to be made in a km and therefore making them more obvious?.
do you think there could be a list of amendments to be inserted into the reasoning book in the same way?.
Who needs a Reasoning Book when the new witnessing is just standing at a booth handing out Bibles?
this might be an unfair question for those who have been out of the organization for decades, but i'm wondering if any of you remember your earliest doubt -- maybe something odd that occurred to you as a kid (if you were a jw then).
please try to limit to two doubts at the most :-).
i think my first "doubt" was simply realizing that at the time of the flood, every animal that wasn't in the ark died (well, besides the fish, supposedly).
1) being told on my bible study (my father was not a witness, so a brother and one of his kids came over and 'studied' with me) that the end would come 6000 years after Eve was created...even at the age of 12 i knew this was one of the dumbest, least thought out things I'd ever heard...(all the other creatures already alive would know when Eve was created, right? after that the math is simple...
2) Finding out Losch was annointed in the late '60 and that Lett started partaking as young Bethelite...I studied the Revelation book religiously and could not figure out how these two could have possibly been annointed when they said they were...
the wts likes to imply how jws should dress in and outside of the hall.
you always want to set an example.. so i couldn't help but share this beauty in the january 15th, 2013, study edition of the watchtower.
i always go to the beach like this!
We once had a brother (i'll spare you his "credentials"), he told us we needed to represent ourselves as ministers all the time and needed to follow the example of the family in the Require Brochure when doing yard work. so stoopid.
i was commenting in another thread this morning and saw speculation that the conti verdict will hasten the wts' decline, beyond just the money they may have to pay in that case itself.
i have seen this mentioned a number of times and it got me thinking and doing a bit of research.
i think the speculation and hope is that it will give rise to similar lawsuits which will meet with similar success.
wha happened, i'd agree, except for the lives of the kids involved. it shouldn't take a kid getting screwed up for life to change a policy or get someone to question the veracity of their faith.
just curious, how did you come up with your handle?

Thank you Incognito...
This makes the point so well. Yes, the piece of crap who molests a child can surely be trusted to contact the authorities to report themselves, And anonymous phone calls are treated with the utmost urgency. Somebody on that elder body needed higher education.
However, " It appears that any benefit provided to the abused, the elders or the congregation, is only coincidental." Maybe. I'd say any benefit provided would be accidental. Telling the victim or the family of the victim that they may be disfellowshipped if they contact the police is abuse all by itself.
ok.. you 70 plus bethelite members.... this is your chance to share stories!
inquiring minds want to know !no full names please..follow t.o.s.
to avoid borg libel lawsuits).. i will start the ball rolling with week one.
Balaamsass: "if a female (even married) was alone with you for 5 minutes she would sexually assault you or vise versa."
hahahaha! that is so funny! When it comes to anything sexual, Bethel is so screwed up. Losch telling everyone about a woman's "sexual craving" was awesome. Audrey Hyde, yes, that Audrey Hyde, formerly Audrey Knorr said after that Morning Worship, "What does he know about a woman's sexual craving?" Apostate!
i have heard on this site, and others that some doctors say many "jehovahs witnesses" actually accept blood transfusions for themselves and family when the chip are down.
i have been told by hospital laison members (relatives) that the reason for the "bedside elder vigil" is actually to keep patients and family members from "weakening".
now i know a lot of people identify themselves as jws on old medical charts and such (according to pew research and personal experiance...so i am simply interested in opinions on active current jws.. my personal feeling is 2/3 to 75% would allow themselves or family members to die.
Probably the same % of active witnesses who would stay at a hotel NOT on the "Recommeded Lodging List". Only the unfaithful, weak or otherwise rebellious. sheesh.
be faithful in the least of these things and you'll be faithful in much...don't ya know!
