in our personal life, there has been a slight improvement over last year.
our area, our little town is still struggling and losing small businesses.
my latest co-worker is a fellow business owner.
Thanks everyone for their comments. It's good to know that there are areas out there where things are better. Hope it keeps growing.
Worked with my new co-worker again last night. She worked at her gift shop through the day and got one customer during the whole time. And this is Holiday time, at a gift shop.
We worked with just a scant crew at Wal-mart last night. guess they are trying to cut back on payroll. We had no greeter, no stockman, 2 checkers and just a handful of people on the floor. but we managed to catch 3 shoplifters that the cops took away. Wonder how many we didn't catch.
Got to do some family stuff and then it's off to another Wal-mart adventure.

In our personal life, there has been a slight improvement over last year. Our area, our little town is still struggling and losing small businesses. My latest co-worker is a fellow business owner. She owned a small gift shop about a block from our old store. She's been trying to keep her business going and working at one of the Wal-mart Supercenters at night too. She got home after 1:00 in the morning, got up and opened up her shop just a few hours later. Never got to see her kids. She transferred to our local Wal-mart, it a smaller one, less hours, but closer she'll be able to see her kids for a few minutes before bedtime and won't spend so much in gas money. Last night she said she is closing her business, there just isn't enough customers coming in to pay the rent and expenses. Some of the other merchants are either thinking of closing or have already closed. This economy has been rough on small businesses.
Talked to the Wal-mart manager last night, asked how our Wal-mart is doing. He said the Supercenters were taking away a lot of our business. We've got three of them within a 10-20 minute drive. It's Wal-mart beating Wal-mart. Our town's Wal-mart is just another small business really.
It's sad to think that there are creative and talented people now stocking shelves or scanning groceries. I know Wal-mart is getting a more responsible worker, and I am grateful they are hiring, just wonder if things will ever go back to what they were.
Any thoughts? Excuse the typos, I've got cobwebs in my eyes yet, need more coffee.

it's been awhile since i've been able to post.
i started working for wal-mart in september and have had a hectic time since then.
at first i was working all kinds of hours, sometimes morning, sometimes evening, never had two days off in a row so it felt like i was working all the time.
It's been awhile since I've been able to post. I started working for Wal-mart in September and have had a hectic time since then. At first I was working all kinds of hours, sometimes morning, sometimes evening, never had two days off in a row so it felt like I was working all the time. They finally got me on a consistant schedule and I get two days off together, (hope it lasts!)
I enjoy working there, but my body is starting to feel my age, my feet and legs hurt so much at times. My co-workers consist of three ladies who are quite a ways past retirement age but continue to work. One is raising her 3 great grandchildren and needs the income for it. Another two ladies are my age and hold down two jobs, one because her ex-husband quit paying child support and she had to get a second job to make up the difference. The other lady took a pay cut at her other job so has to work at Wal-mart to make up the difference.
I've run into a few JWs since starting. It's a mixed reaction. Some will talk to me if their spouse or other family member is not present. (We are trained to greet all our customers and call them by name if we know it.) Others will ignore me and continue to shop in my department or quickly run off to another. I find the ones that ignore me to be quite ironic. One is an elders wife and she was out shopping with a worldly gal pal, she just continued to shop and try on clothes after I said hello to her and she just looked at me and turned away. Another lady was disfellowshipped several years ago for adultery. She is now quite the active pioneer and she quickly ran off to another department when I greeted her. Another works for a company that has a display inside Wal-mart. She will talk to me but if her husband comes by she won't. I find them to be downright silly at times. It's getting so it bothers me less and less. I was never DF or DA just quit going. At least I was never notified of any action.
On the home front, my mom has her good days and bad days. Recently she had problems with her stomach bleeding from all the meds they give her. she got very weak and I had to sit and feed her. She continues to share with me some of the things she has gone through and has not talked of in years. She was raped when she was 16, I never knew it. I sat and cried with her for what she went through.
Hubby's business is still on the roller coaster. I think he did a bit better than what he did last year. He can make in a couple days what I make in two weeks. So there are times that my Wal-mart check seems so meager and other times when we are grateful it was there for food and the light bill. His business left us in the red last year with venders encouraging us to run credit with them, they kept saying things will get better, they didn't. We're slowing digging out of debt, it's like trying to dig out after a blizzard with a small shovel. You're going to make some progress but it takes an awful long time.
Today is my day off and I'm hoping to get the house in shape and put up our Christmas tree. Last year we were so broke, we didn't have a tree or presents. this year we'll have the tree and there'll be some present under it.
Well I best get at my dishes, cleaning and laundry. And I said this is my day off. Will try to post more if I can.
Best wishes to all,
Sadie
when i was a jw there were a few sisters i knew who had serious weight problems.
i now have a couple of friends who are obese.
i have a weight problem also (about 40 pounds over my best weight).. i was out with my girlfriend today.
Thanks for posting this. I eat all the "right foods", lots of veggies and salads, very little junk foods, very little sugar. Yet I am overweight. I've done this for years. I know people must think I am just a couch potato by the size of me.
I've started doing more excercizing, weight lifting, treadmill, total gym and some videos. I've lost 17 pounds since June. It is hard loosing the weight.
My own thoughts were that they give stuff to the animals to fatten them up faster, could that be fattening us up too?

i have some unique and troubling news.
i just got off the telephone with scott boer, vicki boer's husband and before that vicki.
her honour, justice anne molloy, has just ruled on the legal cost issue in the boer case.
How about a TV Movie about her experience? Maybe a good written article in something like Reader's Digest? Maybe even some Christian magazines? I'm sure they'd love to show this about witnesses. Use her circumstances to help her not hinder her.
((((Vicki))) and ((((family))), so sorry this is going this way.

I had to watch several tapes of Sam Walton cheering on his associates as well as other tapes about proctecting your back, carding for tobacco and so on. I also had to take computer tests on various subjects. I've done good on those getting 95 or 100 on most of them, my lowest was 80 on handling chemicals(best stay away from them) I should finish the tests up today, it's on merchandise in my department.
They seem to have their own language. I didn't know what my trainer was talking about at first when she said we were going to straighten up the clothing. She said we're going to "zone" now.
The break room and other employee areas are filled with quotes of Mr. Sam's. the biggest portion of our handbook is about Mr. Sam. I do admit I've always admired the guy, he was an ordinary guy that built a retail empire. I just think he is almost idolized now.
I have one day (Friday) which I'll have to work the day. My trainer(who I am replacing) said it was a killer, working to 9:00 Thursday night and then having to be to work at 7:00 am Friday morning. But other than that it an easy job. My fellow associate are friendly, there is a lot of new ones too.
Right now I'm part time(no benefits) but let them know I'm interested in full time. they evaluate and give raises after 90 days.
thanks for all your well wishes.

Hello everyone,
I think things went very good. Had 2 interviews, both supervisors said they wanted me. Have to take a drug test tomorrow and will go from there. I'm on a little(natural) high right now. It's been 20+ years since I did a job interview, I was surprisingly calm and laughed quite a bit.
Will let you know more tomorrow. Thanks for your warm wishes.
