  does anyone have a more informed and scholarly view on this?.

  @Comatose: Of course you know via your JW education that there were no Egyptians before the flood and for that matter not until after that unfortunate incident at the tower of Babel. Perhaps some of the demon-influenced, pre-flood inhabitants of the land built the original pyramids and then after the TOB, the people who now spoke what we call the Egyptian language attempted to mimic earlier creations they found that survived the flood. That might explain why later pyramids were smaller and inferior to the older examples.

  Also, your sarcastic comments would infer that somehow the purpose behind the flood failed in that within 100 years people were again doing exactly what they were not supposed to be doing. ROTFLOL... I have no idea how the writers of this stuff (in the WT and Awake) could actually write this stuff without killing themselves for the level of dishonesty and ignorance that they propagate.

  Thanks for the link. One of my favorite topics. It seems like they are not changing when the civilization as a unified state began (I always read around 3000BC) but how quickly it happened as compared to the Mesopotamian region. Am I reading that correctly?

  I agree with you Steve2. Here in Poland they are still very positive but it has to do mainly with growth in foreign language field.

  Is RIDICULE acceptable in online debating?

  this topic was inspired by one of fhn's comments on the 'warzone' thread, so i'll just restate my post there .

  .. "i've been wondering for a while now if ridicule really is an unacceptable feature in debate - it certainly isn't a valid form of argumentation.

  the thing is, some individuals really do come out with the most laughable nonsense and parade it as a serious proposition that merits attention.

  That is going to be one of my favorite charts for a long time (maybe not so long given the GB's propensity to make stuff up). But seriously. That is just so pathetic. I would have just as much success convincing anyone with the tiniest bit of education that WWII 'evidently' ended in 1995. Why? Because the GB says so...

  Checking the Accuracy of Information. Current events, quotations, and experiences can be helpful when you are illustrating and applying certain points. How can you be sure that they are accurate? One way is by extracting such items from reliable sources. Remember to check that the information is up-to-date. Statistics become obsolete; scientific discoveries are quickly surpassed; and as man grows in understanding of history and ancient languages, conclusions based on previous knowledge need to be revised.

  But we never do that, in a way to agree with new 'wordly' understandings... We only revise stuff when we see fit (or need to in order to COA).

  Seriously, the MS book is a work of art (only not in a good way). The chapters on research and study are classics in group control.

  @Konceptual99: yea, that quote about Abraham really got me started when I first saw it. According to WT history, there were no Egyptians before the Tower of Babel. So all of Egyptian history was compressed into the time from post 2269 to when Abraham arrived. That is most amazing. It is also interesting how they mention how advanced the city of Ur was when discussing Abraham's departure to live in tents, but no mention of the fact that Sumeria had 1000 years of history as a dominant civiization prior to that. Sure we don't know exact dates, but we do know that most of it happened earlier than 2370. The whole subject was always so embarassing to me. I prayed nobody would bring up the subject at the door when I was in.

  So no wonder witnesses are demoralized. It is not healthy trying to maintain multiple versions of 'truth' in your mind simultaneously.

  after serving in an appointed position for over 26 years (21 elder, 5 ms,14 pioneer), i have no more dreams of paradise, bored at the meetings, do not enjoy the field ministry.

  the desire to do anything is gone.

  i want to believe in something!.

  LisaRose, your question about 'what is you passion' rings a bell (a sad one). We met some new neighbors recently for a few drinks and a grill and the husband asked me at some point: so what is your passion, what are you passionate about? I still don't know the answer, but I am determined to find out. His wife felt embarrased for me and tried to get him to back off, but I said it was a good question> I haven't stopped thinking about it. What a waste, waiting for the 'new' system when there is so much on the table in front of you.

  they know that evolution has taken place, that the timetable of the bible is not correct, and that most of the bibles content, are tales, that the original text has been rewritten, and rewritten, and misunderstood, and rewritten (except for a fragment p54, which is from 300 a.c.) still they go out preaching, trying to find possible converts to the teaching of the gb.. often they try to do as little as possible, one or two hours per month, talking to their children, or old parents.

  this to satisfy the elder who is responsible for the report list to the society.. but are these people not responsible for promulgate a lie.

  Agreed adamah. I have taken the hard cold look and it is not pretty. I understand why I went down that road. Not going to happen again. I only wish I had done the same thing 20 years ago. That would put me at the same age as ConfusedAndAlone = still a full life ahead...

  James, me too. But we should also consider the possibillity that there is nothing to really believe in except now. Could be painful, could be good.

  I''m with you both (Bugbear and Tornapart). I simply can't go to another meeting. Haven't been in several months now. Just wished I had 'manned-up' many years ago. Thankfully, I have no family in 'except' my wife.
