When you die, you are dead. Life is precious, enjoy it (but don't be an a**hole). My current approach to things.

So how many of us had guilt pangs because our WT was not highlighted?
by cultBgone inwe attended several different congregations in different states, and the one common thread among them all was...if you had your study article highlighted, you were a good jw.. honestly, how often did you cover over your magazine when the attendant walked by handing out copies to visitors?.
sheesh.
would anyone believe how weird this organization really is?.

I could never understand what the point was of highlighting something written at a 4th grade level that we were going to read together anyway and then recite the answer to straight from the paragraph. Often, the questions are longer than the paragraph. It is not like the paragraphs were several hundred words long and the point we wanted to make was buried somewhere in the text. To me, this was always the equivalent of a WT study:
1. The red fox saw the black dog and ran under the fence.
Questions for paragraph 1.
1a. What did the red fox do when it saw the black dog?
1b. What color was the red fox?
If the WT conductor was more progressive, he might also ask (preparing us for the material in paragraph 2) - why do you think the red fox ran under the fence? Of course, some friends would be incensed that he was acting so independently and asking questions not included in the material. Plus, he always ran the risk that the audience would not be prepared to go off-script, and could not formulate a spontaneous off the cuff response (or were afraid to) and he would encounter that awkward moment when nobody raises their hands.

What was the most rebellious thing you did while you were a devout jw?
by DuvanMuvan ini was just thinking about how humans being imperfect and satan's influence was the root of everything bad that anyone has ever done.
well i know that apparently everyone is vulnerable which got me thinking about what "bad" things people have done while they were a jw.
i'll start it off.

What if we were never that devout? Does it count as rebellious or does it fall into the category of normal but stuck in a cult?

Mr. Spane also mentioned that the thorn in our flesh could be the brother or sister in our congreagation with their own rules. Not the rules found in the bible or in the organizations publications. I was like: Hello, anyone listening?

Shared some TTATT with my wife and now she wants us to have a weekly personal bible study
by suavojr inhere is the situation.... a young 19 year old in our congo had a fallout with his parents because of all the restrictions and jw dogma and moved out of the house last wednesday.. to make the story short, the parents went running to the elders and what was the comfort?.
coe said: i saw that coming!
your son never reached out to get baptized.. then the other elder said: don't worry, you still have one left that will be saved.

Start from the beginning. I doubt you will make it to Exodus. Just ask questions about what you read.

Hello, I am new
by LillyC ini am not a jehovah's witness but i am very interested, i have many questions and hope they can be answered here.. i do believe in god, privately.
i do say my prayers daily and do believe god helps me in countless ways.
but i don't go to any church.. i have always been impressed at how smart, polite and nice jehovah's witnesses are and i always make time to speak to them when they call at my door.

Welcome. Many of us were there once and made the same observations. Please, do you homework. You can start with jwfacts.com. Ask questions now... You can't ask them later.

@fastJehu: I will try to confirm with my wife that is what was said. He for sure did not say, mag or other publication with link to jw.org. I did not know there was a rumour about business cards with jw.org included on it. It would make sense though. Maybe that is what the troops will be handing out during the special campaign this August.

@designs: I didn't know what the special event was about, only that it was going to be video streamed. I was guessing maybe some announcement about trivial org changes, so when I heard that Mr. Splane was the main event, I was looking forward to some fireworks based on past comments here about his prior performances. I was disappointed. It was not a very animated talk. Perhaps, the pace changes when a translator is involved and he can't get too worked up about anything.

@hoser: no issue with mic's this time. They had those thin stick type mic's attached to the podium, so the speaker could do it his way.
@tresdecu: no, I'm not Polish. My wife is, though. We moved here several years ago from the states to take care of her mother. I like it here, she would like to go back to Canada.

Just got back from watching JW.Stream presentation at our local KH of a 'special' meeting at Ursus assembly hall in Warsaw. All the congs in the country were tied in, but some will be watching replay later in the day. There were 3 parts. First, 30 minute sales rally for the team describing work accomplished in the last year and an upcoming campaign in August that will be 'historic' in its scope. Related to 100 year anniversary, oh joy! Not a single scripture read or quoted in this part.
Next of course was WT summary. This week sounded like more encouragement for young people to pioneer after basic school completed. Wasn't really paying attention. Some cong's even moved their Sunday meeting to Saturday so they got a full WT study on Saturday and then review on Sunday.
The big show was Mr. David Splane. He did pretty well. First time I have seen him live. Didn't seem like he used notes at all, but at then end I saw that he did have them. The theme was 'Your will be done'. Main focus was on Paul's thorn in the flesh and how he didn't let that stop him, so nothing should really stop us either. Nothing bizarre or strange to report. Pretty much another snore-fest. The Polish brothers seemed incredibly excited. The chairman was almost ecstatic in joy. Splane did mention that on Saturday he had been out in service with the host family he was staying with and that later his wife did some informal witnessing (in French) at a kebab restaurant during lunch. She had some card she gave the owner that directed him to jw.org.
Did get to see a sign-language group in the audience 'singing'. That was about the most exciting thing. 4 more hours of my life gone, but it did make my wife happy. Got the 'nice to see you again' from most of the friends. Same couple of people totally ignored me, even thought they were directly in front of me making field service arrangements for next week with my wife. It was like I was invisible. People were reaching around her to say hello, but nothing distracted her from her mission of getting her schedule filled for the next week.
