Good stuff as usual Terry. Keep it coming. I always wondered about that account. No demon infestations in Ot, none now (that I'm aware of). Apparently very popular around the time of Jesus.

BASIC questions any reasonable person might ask
by Terry ini wonder about things.
i wonder why other people don't wonder about them.. for example:.

Do you "believe" differently from what you "know"?
by compound complex ingreetings, all those still searching, still wondering .
.. in one of many faith-related books i have read, i recall the author declaring that there's a difference between what we know and what we believe.
while i cannot recall the author nor his commentary, i acknowledge that, while i do know ttatt and that the bible in not without error, yet there's a part of me deep inside that holds onto the so-called spiritual.. how is it for you personally as you make the transition from the invisible to the visible?

@Designs: I think I understand your point, but are you talking about the earth's future or the future of the human race? I think the earth (as in planet) will be ok with or without us. Actually, I think it may do better without us. Unfortunatley, as a member of the geezer class (thanks Focus), I won't be around long enough to find out. I have very little faith in humans every deciding to do the right thing until it is too late.

HERE IS YOUR MAP. . . your task is to find the spot which says: YOU ARE HERE
by Terry inhere is your map:.
1. i suspect the truth isn't what i thought it was.. 2. omg--i realize i've been lied to and duped.. 3. what should i do?--i don't want to lose my wife, kids, family, friends, dog, pet hamster .
.. 4. what if jehovah's witnesses really do have the true religion and it's simple human error screwing it up?.

Also, 6.5 And I agree with WildThing. Not into banging my head against the wall, but always ready to provide a shoulder, as in: We all need, someone, we can lean on...

Why Do Certain "Inactive Ones" Get Bothered By The Elders While Others Don't?

They don't speak English, and I pretend like I don't speak Polish. I have no family in except my wife, so they have no leverage. I still go when wife gets invited for BBQ (as long as no WT study is involved) and the most I get from friends is the usual: we miss you. Nothing from Elders.

One language in the new system
by OneEyedJoe inso at the convention, one of the talks was about how all people will speak a single language in the new system.
my ears perked up when i heard at the outset "now, we can't be dogmatic about this" because that immediately makes me think that they're backing away from a previously dogmatic stance.
he went on to say that everyone will be speaking hebrew in the new system because "evidently" (another word that gets my ears to perk up these days) that was what was spoken before the languages were confused at bable.

The 'one-language' thing and the fact that it was going to be Hebrew always made me want to stand up on my chair and start screaming - when the comment was made. Just like evidently, it had never rained before the flood. Of course they are not going to be dogmatic about it, but try disagreeing....

Highly recommended. Not something you could do every day, but one a week (on the weekend) or once a month (probably a better idea) would ne nice. Funny how the study was from Florida (land of magic mushrooms).

What would be your favorite job if you could do anything.?
by new hope and happiness inon the basis that most of us realise the w.t wasnt really the best " job" or way to spend our days, it would be fun to find out what people would really have liked to have done with there lifes and if this is still possible.
or maybe its not even a very realistic ambition just a dream.
in my dreams i stay at home all day and make a living from being a professional artist.maybe i need a phycholgist?.

Sumerian archeology. Linguistics. I'm pretty sure there is lots of interesting stuff still under the sand in Iraq/Iran.

I think if someone younger than I am was investigating christianity and was considering seriously going down that path, they might consider investing an hout of their time vs the next 30 years down the tube. At the same time, I realize the attention span of people today has to be 15 minutes max, probably closer to 2. So much noise clamoring for our attention. I wil check it out this weekend. Thanks for the link.

The new phonograph
by Pistoff inway back in 20's or 30's, (someone correct me if i have the time frame wrong), the wt's strategy for witnessing was to give each publisher (or have them buy one) a phonograph to set on the householder's steps so they could play one of the judge's speeches.. flash forward and there was a testimony card that publishers handed to the householder, introducing them.. this gave way to the current model of the publisher being informed and able to discuss a subject with the householder.. .
that seems to be giving way to the new approach being used by the wt: the website.. the wt realizes that slick content is more impressive that a publisher talking, one who can't or won't keep up with the insane doctrinal changes.. publishing books and magazines is taking the back seat; the wt and awake have less than half the content they used to, and are published half as often.. the wt's trolley cart method involves not getting into discussions with people, but using an ipad to play them a video.. .
the past is the future!.

Of course, Dad will get hammered! And don't try to give them some crappy Android knock-off. It will need to be an iPad in whatever color is currently in vogue.

Check out the July 2014 KM last page, week starting August 4. Sample Presentations, Right hand column, middle of page:
Perhaps you can show him a sample by playing the video Why Study the Bible?
What if you don't have the appropriate device to show such video? Is is just assumed now that all good dubs will have one? My wife told me she was recently thinking about getting a tablet (I wonder why, she can't even check her email on the laptop without my help) but she gave up. How will the 'have-nots' or 'cannots' react? Maybe it is just a ploy to keep the younger crowd feeling relevant. I smell exclusion/jettison.
