just saw this.. great movie.
not as good as book, but about matches it roughly as good as fellowship matched the book.. gollum is class act - for those worried the little cgi creature wouldn't work, don't be!
he looks great - and the voice acting is dead one.. won't say too much, as spoilers might ruin it for some, but you really, really should see the extended edition dvd of the fellowship before seeing this movie.
Shera,
Safe4kids,I agree with you....
Obviously, a woman of impeccable taste and insight

in thinking back over the years past it makes me really sad what we have come to as jehovah's witnesses.
i never thought i would ever be at this point in my life.
in doing some new year reflections i can't help but think of the people i cared about in past years.
Trauma,
I know what you mean, on the face of it, it sounds absurd but that's mainly because the details haven't been fleshed out. It really isn't about hand-holding and decrying what a horrible life an offender has led; it's quite detailed and intense and offenders are not let off the hook, so to speak. In fact, what draws me to it the most is the amount of power and control that is given back to the victims, which IMO is a very healing thing.
Simon,
here's a link to an article that I had to read for a class last semester. Again, this does not provide many details but it's an intriguing approach to an issue society isn't currently dealing with effectively.

Simon,
The Circle of Trust..isn't that a Native institution? I read about that (or something similar, can't recall the name) that Native peoples in Canada had adopted and had relative success with. And I agree that current mainstream ways of dealing with molestors aren't effective. Be a bit difficult for me to get behind, actually, but I am open minded enough to realize and support that the main objective is to protect future victims. If that can be done through support, etc, then I think it's definitely worth a try.
From what I recall of the reading, it was a pretty involved and intense series of steps, with the victim and the victim's family very involved, along with professionals and members of the community as well as previous offenders (because, as is so often true, it's hard to bullsh$t a bullsh$tter). Also, I believe that throughout the entire process, the option of jail time is still viable if it's thought that the offender is not sincerely aware of and remorseful of the harm done.

I don't know about the wizard guy, but so far I have never been able to pull an army out of my a$$.
Elsewhere,
That's not necessarily a bad thing, you know? Most of us women aren't too excited by a guy who pulls things out of his..er..a$$. Just thought I'd let ya know

I hear what you're saying Steph
I've read the books a number of times, as well; unfortunately, once I saw Legolas, memory completely deserted me and I found myself not remembering nor caring how true they were to the book (it's the hair, man! the hair...and and the lips! Oh yeaaaaaaah those lips...and don't even get me started on his full quiver *shiver*)
Btw, out of curiosity, have you (or anyone reading this for that matter) ever read the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen R. Donaldson? I am currently re-reading them for the sethirmumble time. 'Twould be interesting to hear others' thoughts.

Steph,
I find it very frustrating when you are so vague. How about telling us what you really thought of the movie, hey? Damn Ozzies!
