I'm so sorry to hear what you are all going through, and to have the majority of the weight falling on your shoulders, Marilyn, has to make things so much harder. You are all in my thoughts.

here is the link to it.
it is about "al qaeda's new front" and talks about the radical muslims in europe and terrorism in general in europe.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when they blow up the Eiffel Tower or The Lourve(sp).
Mega, I echo your "sheesh". Comments like this are ridiculous and incendiary.
Doesn't sound like worthwhile argument and it certainly shows little respect for the French posters here to say it'll be "interesting" to see the Louvre blown up just because they don't blindly follow Bush's highly controversial (to say the least) policy
Pole, I couldn't agree with you more. It seems that lately comments that are hurtful and directed at groups of people along national lines, so long as they are cloaked in "discussion" regarding current politics, have become acceptable. I don't much care for this trend and I thought your response to it an excellent one.
Sorry, eljefe, I didn't see the episode so can't comment on it.

as mentioned in my other thread, my daughter lena is having brainsurgery on monday, jan 24. the surgery will last 6-7 hours, so i'm hoping the board members will be willing to make a special effort tomorrow to send positive thoughts, healing energy, good wishes and prayers her way.
we are asking that the surgeon's hands be delicate and skillful and that lena does not bleed overmuch and that brain damage be minimal (if not non-existant).
surgery begins at 8 am eastern standard time (us), but we have to have her to the hospital by 6 am, so this is "good night!
((((((((((Brenda and Lena)))))))))))) Whewwwwwwww...I am SO happy to hear this news. The kids were asking last night and again this morning how Lena was, so I'll be able to relieve them this afternoon. Please give Lena a big, huge, enormous hug from all of us...then get Katie or Jann or SOMEONE to give you one as well . I am so very relieved and happy to know that Lena is okay and so very proud of you ((((Brenda)))) what a strong woman you are!
Love,
Dana and kids

((((Brenda and Lena)))) I will definitely be sending positive thoughts throughout the day today, as will the kids. As Razor said above, I too believe that Lena is going to be okay. She's strong and healthy and, besides, she has you for a mom

on my "backyard rink" thread some of us were bragging about our kids.
confusedjw and scootergirl shared their kids' hockey and skating successes.. i thought it would be cool to have a thread where parents (and other relatives) could post their kids' achievements as they come along.. births, first steps, first words, sports/academic achievements, etc.
i'll start:.
I'm always willing to brag about my kids
My 13 year old son is in the 7th grade and was tapped this year to participate in the Duke University Talent program (based on academic achievement). Tomorrow he joins a group of high school students to take the SAT! Depending on his score, he may be invited to join some rather interesting and challenging programs. The thing that makes me most proud of him regarding this is that I left the decision in his hands as to his participation as it required 6 weeks of extra classes each day and of course spending most of his Saturday to take the test. This kid truly hates school but didn't back down from the challenge. Regardless of his score, I'm a seriously proud mom!
My daughter is 11 and also participates in advanced/gifted school programs...she brought home straight As for the second semester in a row. She's always been a good student but had some major difficulties the last two years in managing her work load but this year she has really made major improvements in her level of responsibility and organization. She also is in her third year of playing softball and has joined the school orchestra (I didn't know violas could screech like cats). I'm exceedingly proud of how she's handling all of the school work and the strides she's made this year.
Now, if only I can get them to clean up their rooms....

i am so terrified!.
#2 daughter came home from college on 12/18 with a violent headache, nausea, neck pain and great fatigue.
we took her to the dr. on the 20 and again on the 21st as she had kept nothing down for 3 days.
((((Brenda, Lena, and family))) Just wanted you to know that I was thinking of you all today and sending positive/healing thoughts your way. Please let us know how things are going.
Much love from Dana, Justin and Delaney
this is just too wacky.
do you think his administration even knows about this?
lawyers viewpoint :.
I say we demolish the WhiteHouse this time instead of just burning it
Are you attempting humor with this comment, Simon? Because I for one do not find it amusing.

(((((((((Brenda and Lena))))))))) I am so glad that you both have so much support. Brenda, this has to be a terrifying experience for you, for the whole family really, and I am so sorry that you're having to experience this but I am so proud of you for being able to express how you're feeling. It was wonderful being able to hear your voice and Lena's; I just wish there was more that I could do. The kids were happy to hear the positives and send their love and positive thoughts, as does Tracy. We're all of us keeping you and your family in our thoughts and hearts.
Love,

(((((((((Brenda and Lena)))))))))))) I just saw this thread this morning and I was totally shocked to see it. You know that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach where you see something that you don't want to be true, hope that it's just some kind of weird play on words or whatever, but realize even through that denial that the world has just shifted monumentally...I'm sorry that I'm rambling, my dear friends, I have all a bunch of thoughts but they're so very disjointed and disconnected right now. What I most want to say is that I'm glad you took her so quickly to the doctor; I'm so very glad that it's a doctor you can trust; I can't, simply CANNOT imagine what you must be feeling right now. Please give Lena a huge hug from me; please give yourself a big hug from me as well. And please let me know if there is anything at all that I can do. I would like to call, but if that's an added burden right now, I completely understand. I love you both very much.
