Mike, thank you. I really wanted a chance to talk at length with HL about social services in your neck of the woods but didn't get much of a chance to do so. Next fest, hey?
Geez, Tracy...stay away from my dowry I mean, Jerry....Nav offered him to me first!
And Joy, sheesh! don't encourage her!
Panda, wow! So how did the schooling for the master's go? And what's your degree in, if you don't mind me asking. I'd like, some day maybe, to go back and I'd love to hear your experience.
Sixy, thanks dude (LOL at your 'gravy boats') you've got a wicked sense of humor, my friend
Country girl, thanks and I imagine that it will come sooner than you expect
(((Ross))) thanks And all that stuff about Jerry...well, it's all a vicious rumor I've done my best to perpetuate...heheheh.
Xenawarrior, thank you for the congratulation wishes. "Upcoming nuptials"? Sorry, it's Friday, I have no intention of cooking tonight! (sheesh, some people)
Hey bigboi, haven't seen you around much lately. Course, I haven't been around much either LOL. It has been hard but it's been worth it (I think). As for being in my shoes...you wanna marry Jerry??!!!!
Hi Nina I would LOVE to make a trip to Texas...one of these days, for sure! And thank you for your kind words. You and hubby have the nicest family, it was a pleasure to meet you all.
((((Jade)))) I wish you could be here too! Don't know about the trooper stuff, but thank you! Um, but don't be too modest here....ya need to let people know that you're going to school too!
Estee, awww thank you so much. I love that pic
Nilfun, (I feel like I'm overusing "thank you" in this thread but I don't know what else to say but THANK YOU! LOL)
Back off Ven
(((((Brenda))))) I'll do my best to get pics, k?? But it won't be until after the 13th...and YOU, woman...I'm proud of YOU TOO!!! Busting your rear to take care of your family, your mom, AND go to school yourself...no mean feat
Thanks again to everyone who has responded to this thread and expressed encouragement, kindness, and congratulations. As an update, I was interviewed today at the agency I've been interning at this semester...I don't really meet their requirements for a position, as they want post-degree experience in the field, but they told me they're going to push through an exception and give me a job, altho it isn't totally official yet. This has all happened much sooner than I was expecting, as I had planned to take the whole month of December off and begin work in January, but now it looks like I may actually be employed in the next week or two! I'm just kinda blown away by it all...lots of good things happening right now, I'm walking around in a daze. How cool to be able to work in a field that touches my heart so much...and they'll actually pay me! A real paycheck!!! Woohooooooooooo LOL
Love,
Dana

Willyloman, thank you for your kind words. It has already been worth it but I'm glad it's over! LOL
(((((Mulan))))) Thank you! I really wish that you were going to make it too but I understand you've got a lot on your plate. As for the gift, wow! I don't know what to say! It's not necessary, but geez I love to get gifts! LOL Thank you, thank you

Navigator, nice to hear from you A dowry??!!! wooohooooooooooooo! LOL
La capra, thank you for your well wishes. I'm very glad, too, that my kids are seeing mom get a degree. They've been through this with me for the last 5 years, of course, and they've seen me struggle, but they also know how important it is to me. They also expect to go to college too--it's a given. Although right now they're kinda mad at me coz I'm done with school and they still have to go!
Thanks again to everyone for their congratulations; you've all touched me

Vassal, Thanks for the degree! I can't wait to actually get my hot little hands on the real thing (how sad is that?? a piece of paper turns me on now )
Frank, Thank you and you're so right, it beats the heck out of door to door!
Expat, Thanks but why oh why must you call me Napoleon?? Didn't he come to a rather bad end? And dude, forget that wimpy diet pepsi...I'm going straight for the hard stuff..DIET COKE!
Worldlygirl, I am proud of myself, although I'll feel better when my house is clean Hats off to you, too for your accomplishment. (btw, you look so familiar, remind me of some dubs I used to know from Lakeland, FL)
Gopher, Thanks dude, and thanks for the help along the way. My job prospects are looking quite good...the agency where I've done my internship wants me (they like me! they really really like me! LOL) they said they'd probably set up an interview following my graduation. If I get the job, I'll be working in Child Welfare more or less for the state.
Craig Thank you for your kind words, they made me I think 90 credits is a LOT to be proud of! I know how hard they are to come by and you know, it's never too late to finish.
Waiting, it took me a few minutes to figure out what "waddago" meant I was using a short a sound...heheheh, see what happens when ya get edumicated??? Thanks for the kudos, it's been a real experience going to school and trying to manage the kids too and no it hasn't always been easy but they've also come in pretty handy at times as an excuse to miss class
Awww ((((Chris)))) I'll take a cyber hug
Scully, thanks for the encouragement
and do it with panache
oooh, I haven't made those in awhile but they sure sound good...with warm butter and cane syrup..yum!
sns, thanks that was sweet of you.
68storm, hey buddy! talk down to you, eh?? Dude, you've got it backwards doncha know...all this learning has my brain numb, you'll have to use one-syllable words and short sentences with me now. As for celebrating, hey I really like your style!!! Can't wait to see you and your son again, but this year let's do a different park hey?
(((((((Steve))))))) Awww, shucks you're a real sweetie! And you cracked me up with "Special Edd"
Lee, thanks for the support you've shown me, today and at other times. I know I haven't been around much lately but it has meant a lot.
moonwillow, thank you!
morton, you should be very proud of yourself! It's really hard when the kids are so young to do much of anything for ourselves. And I don't mind talking about my degree...I will have a Bachelor's in Social Work, so I can officially call myself a Social Worker If you're thinking about going back, remember you can start out small, which is what I did. I went to a community college and my first semester, I think I only took 2 or 3 classes so that I could kind of ease into it. So, go for it! It IS doable
(((((((Seven))))))) Thank you, sweetie, your friendship, support and encouragement have meant a great deal to me over the last year especially. I love you too!

(No, I'm not talking about my sex life, that's been more than...erm, well, never mind). I attended my final class today at the University of South Florida and, nightmares to the contrary notwithstanding, I'll walk in the commencement ceremony on December 13th. I've got my cap and gown, my sash, a s***load of student loans, bags under my eyes, more grey hair, and a messy house to show for it. I can't believe I'm finally done! And I can't believe how much I've changed since I began college in 1998, at which time I was still in my heart a "true dub" and didn't really believe deep down that I would ever actually obtain a degree...it just seemed too farfetched but at the time I thought that going to a few classes would be cool and who knew? maybe someday....
Someday has arrived and I'm not sure how I feel, other than worn out LOL. I don't know whether to do the happy dance or sleep for a week At any rate, I'm not sure it's sunk in yet that I'm "done", but I felt the need to share it with my friends here, so thanks for letting me do so
Dana, almost BSW
i'm off to new york this morning.
i'm fortunate that my oldest daughter will drive with me, missing class to support her mom and possibly to say a final farewell to her grandma.. my mother has has two strokes this year, and, after the first one in may, told me that she felt like she was dying from the inside out.
she had another stroke at the end of august, and was eventually put in a nursing home.
(((((((Brenda))))))))
My dear friend, I am so sorry to hear about your mom's health but I am also glad that you were able to talk with her before she worsened and that you will be able to see her. She is a fortunate woman to have you in her life. I am sending warm thoughts, hugs, and much love your way and I'm here if you need me.
Love,
Dana
