basically in the jungian world it is discribed as an overpowering of ego by the unconsciousness.

I have voted Cedars. I like your survey. I think it is impressive to know how many who have left were elders, ministerial servants , pioneers etc. I think in your last one wasn't there a district overseer? It all helps to impress people that those who are leaving are ones who have deeply believed and therefore there must be something very wrong with this organisation. Good on yer!

What I am most ashamed of.........
by Xanthippe inis not giving to charity while a jw.
this whole 'lets sit back and wait for jehovah to sort the world out while we do nothing' really gets to me.
there is so much to be done in this world, so many people doing good things but the jws just say bang on doors and sell watchtowers.. i did plenty of voluntary work in the jws pioneering my youth away but it was all so useless, now i do voluntary work to help people who want to be helped, as well as my job.

by itscrap&theyknowit! init's been a long time.. well, i guess i'm gonna have to 'cut the cord' with my family.of course, they are all big sinners in jehovah's borganization, as is my husband.
but, i need to get it together and start attending meetings again!.
because he is the hypocrite and i don't tell them everything that goes on in our marriage, his word holds power over mine.

Oh and in the eighties there was an AGM in the UK, Leicester I think.
As a pioneer sister I was asked to go, to serve food of course! It was for a weekend I think and one day we had finished clearing away the food and we stood in a corridor listening to a loud speaker because we wanted to get a taste of what the older brothers and sisters were listening to.
Imagine my surprise when I realised that what we were listening to was the shareholders meeting and they had forgotten to turn the loud speaker off!
My reaction was shareholders, they have shareholders in the organisation? What!! No one else seemed to think that was strange!
Just part of my gradual waking up to the fact that I was working for a company.

Book recomend: Oranges are not the only fruit
by londonlady ini have just finished this book and cannot recomend it enough!
for most of the book i was very suspisous that the author had been secretly stalking me my whole life.. it charts the story of "jess" who is brought up in a cult like religon, its not jw's but it could be, it sounds almost the same.
its a warm hearted yet incredible story of how her strong charater enabled her to break free from the cult and find out who she really was.. theres some truly excellent lines in it, my favorite being from the mad cult devote mother "you don't need an airing cupboard when youv'e got jesus!

londonlady I loved that book too. Especially when she got away and went to university. Didn't she go to Oxford? Really enjoyed that she finally escaped. I did see parallels with my life and her mother!

In I think it was 1987 we has a circuit assembly and we were told we could not study just the Bible with people anymore, it had to be one of the WTS books. I had always been happy to take my Bible along and use just that and their version also if that is what a person wished. In about 1987 we were told this was no longer allowed. I even phoned a friend to see if she had the same talk at her assembly, in a different area, and she confirmed it. That was the beginning of the end for me. If people cant sit down and read the Bible together what is going on in a religion?
