I've been out twenty-five years and it's just a silly religion to me now. I live and let live, have gay and bi-sexual friends and am pretty relaxed about life. Only cruelty and injustice shock me. As jwfacts says if you can survive it all your perspective is a lot clearer, in fact I think I'm happier than most people I meet possibly because we have to work so hard for it don't we. I don't give up my happiness just because it's raining!

by Phizzy in........... do you find you are now far more relaxed about things ?
things in general, and things wt/jw related ?.
i find i am much more relaxed and pragmatic about life in general, mrs phizzy and i do what we can, but we don't get overly upset at what we cannot do.

Shirley I work in a public library and have done for the past fourteen years. The job description has changed enormously in that time. I spend much of my day teaching people how to do things on almost forty pcs that are provided for the public. Imagine a person who can barely speak English, has hardly touched a computer and has been sent from the employment office to apply for a job online. Welcome to my day.

Catching up after putting life on hold while a JW.....
by EndofMysteries init's only been a couple of years since i fully woke up to ttatt.
although it's....almost never too late to turn your life around, definitely the older you are, the harder it will be.
i had put marriage, school, traveling, and 'worldly goals' aside because the end was 'just around the corner' and those things shouldn't be pursued.

Birthdays
by Laika ini had my first real birthday party yesterday.
call me an irredeemable pagan, but i was massively excited about this, the whole thing was very special, i got a little emotional and i think my friends must have found it a little strange but it was just nice to be creature worshipped.
when i was a child my parents always used to tell people i didn't miss out by not celebrating my birthday but i did miss out.

What did your Grannie teach you?
by compound complex infor me: how to garden, do laundry (we washed in an old maytag wringer and pegged the wash on a wire line), cook, clean house.. most importantly, how to show love and respect .
.. miss you, nana!!!
please share!.

It's like snuggling under her love at night. - Great Teacher
That's beautiful. You have the soul of a poet GT.
My Nana always bought me toys at Christmas and on my birthday even though my mother didn't because of her beliefs. She taught me that grandparents are important. My daughter is visiting her grandparents today while she's home from university. I bet they're having a great time.

IC 2014 talk: "A Century of Kingdom Rule Contrasted With a Century of Satans Rule"
by AnnOMaly ina discussion of this talk on friday morning deserves its own thread.
as i said elsewhere, it was a remarkable one.
the speaker was manfred vencebi (google him - he's a bethel bigwig) and some of his remarks are real gems.

Yes, people live longer today, but what is the point of having a longer lifespan and better health when, in most cases, people use those extra years and that extra energy to draw away from God and from our Creator? People use the extra health to offend God with their conduct....now they can reach to their 80s and 90s and now they have 20, 30 or 40 years more to offend Jehovah, to engage in conduct that makes him sad. Is thatprogress?"
We live 50 years longer than we did 150 years ago with comparatively wonderful health thanks to medicine and nutrition. People have so much leisure to pursue things that make them happy but all to no avail because if they don't slave for Watchtower they are making God sad.
The psychological manipulation is scary particularly for children growing up in this religion. You may feel healthy and what you do makes you happy but it's all wrong, wrong, wrong because a made-up person who you cannot even see is being hurt by all this vitality and joy.
And what can we say about the relief work we do to help people when they are victims of wars and disasters?" [Nothing at all. He leaves the question hanging.]
Of course he left it hanging everyone knows they do nothing.

Question for Atheists.. Did you gain a Greater Sense of Morality and Happiness?
by objectivetruth ini've heard some view points that state, atheists are generally more moral & caring for fellow humans, than are theists.. i'd like to hear some personal stories of life changes and quality of life after you became atheist.
i have a simple theory that may explain this.. i'll explain my theory if you'd like, after a few responses, as i really am interested in the personal changes that you experienced.. thank you very much, and i look forward to your stories..

As regards the golden rule, it's logical to treat other people well if you want to get the best out of them. Children learn this in nursery school. The problems start when a religious code of conduct tells you to keep on treating people well when they repay your kindness with cruelty. This completely screws everything up.
