  How does "spirit directed" not equal "possessed"?

  religious people in general and the jws in particular often make claims of being "spirit directed".. normally it's thrown out as a rather glib claim of being inspired by god / jehovah and to justify any decisions they make via an appeal to authority.. but think about it for a moment - suppose it were true ... how would it actually work?

  when they talk about elders appointments and decisions being "spirit directed" what exactly does the mechanism consist of?

  does some unseen force make hem raise their hand when they otherwise wouldn't?

  Yes I've said this before, if they are directed by God how does this happen. Do they hear a voice, does a GB member do automatic writing directed by a spirit. What happens? It sounds like they are saying GB meetings are nothing more than a seance.

  I wanted to ask someone of the anointed about this when they still taught that all the remnant were part of the faithful and discreet slave but it wasn't the done thing. When you think that people literally live or die according to what these seven men are supposed to receive from Jehovah but nobody dares ask how they receive it, it seems crazy.

  did you really believe in things as ;- the earth is only 6000 years old- the 144.000- 1914, based upon the destructiono of jerusalem- harmagheddon or the end of the world coming soon???

  ?i married a jw when i was an interested person and studying with the jw's ( not the way they wanted) but i told my wife before marrying her that " most probably " i would never have been a jw.she accepted me as i was and married me.

  after that i had interrupted the study for one year, i started all over again with an elder of my wife's cong.

  I agree with Cofty, I don't do things I don't believe in.

  True, I was an uneducated, deliberately information-controlled, second generation JW but as soon as I realised it was a corrupt religion I resigned.

  Why did you continue studying and marry a JW if you didn't believe it?

  Female Perspective about WTS, marital relationship & control

  i was not born-in, began studying when i was around 20, am 50 damn years old now and have spent almost the last 30 years in that stupid religion.

  Interesting theory. Having children does change a woman greatly. But wouldn't she feel the greatest need for security from her husband as the person who loves her, loves her children and is probably working to provide financially for those children. Wouldn't she want to follow him out rather than side with 'sisters' in the cong? Not criticising your relationship just following your argument here.

  I Haven't Missed a Meeting in Years!

  i recently ran into a jw i knew from a few years back.you know how it goes, a few pleasantries that always seem much more awkward than they really should (not for me, mind you--for him).and then the question, "so what congregation are you attending?

  are you able to make the meetings?

  "i'm thinking: do you always start conversations this way?so anyways, knowing full well the jw-mindset, i decided to have a bit of fun.furrowing my brow, i said, "that's an odd question!

  Love it Oub! Well done. I do not miss meetings either! Funny side effect from sitting in boring meetings for my entire childhood is at work in meetings I immediately zone out when they become boring. It's a survival habit that leads to me missing things! Oops.

  my fave was roy renouf - district overseer.

  always had time for me and seemed to keep thigs real.. heard that on a zone vist he told the governing body the branch was told old and grumpy or something like that!.

  worst was michael purbrick.

  Whizzstick I remember Alan Stokes and Bevan Vigo, Stan. There was a guy called Michael Spurr, whose talks always contained skeletons, he was obsessed with them. Also Brent and Jean Smith. Noble Bower was DO I remember, very large man.

  saomebody mentioned in a recent thread here i think that the more they read here the more they feel angry at the wt.

  personally, as an ex-elder (only resigned a few months ago) i feel that it is more like suddenly being on the outside looking in at a whole group of people playing parts.

  the zealous pioneers answering all the time.

  Perhaps it feels like playing roles because they are not actually accomplishing anything. They are not manufacturing anything, creating anything, providing a public service or helping anyone.

  I received my acceptance letter into Nursing School.

  the competition is high for this limited access program.
