Mind control.
by New day inin a recent thread someone mentioned that the wtbts uses mind control techniques.
do you think this is a conscious ploy?
if it is it would mean that the leaders of my religion (i am still an active jw) set out consciously to control people.

The end justifies the means every time with this organisation. They tell themselves they are controlling people for the sake of their everlasting life. Which incidentally was the reason the Inquisition gave when they tortured people to death. -

Attitudes of WT Society Leaders Towards " Rights " of Child Abuse Victims and Elders
by flipper inthese excerpts i'm sharing with you are from the july 1st, 1989 letter from the wt society to the elders and it gives outsiders a good idea of the attitude of the wt society leaders towards child abuse victims and even towards their own appointed elders.
and it shows wt society is first, foremost, and mainly concerned about financial fallout from potential lawsuits.
one short quote was used from this letter on the abc news nightline report about candace conti - but what i'm going to share with you will be other excerpts from that same letter that are just as, or even more revealing.

The spirit of the world has sensitized people regarding their legal " rights "
The spirit of the world, which we know they think is wicked, has made people aware of their legal rights! Yet human beings have been fighting for centuries, often at the risk of their own lives, for human rights, women's rights, children's rights and animal rights.
Now this cult is putting the word rights in inverted commas as if rights are a nonsense, as if they don't exist. It seems in their eyes people don't have any rights at all, they simply must obey their leaders and put up with being abused or watch their precious children being abused and keep their mouths shut about it. How dispicable to find this treatment of people's rights in the twenty-first century.
Thank you very much Flipper for bringing this to our attention. If you are reading this and you are still a JW remember that according to your religion you have no rights, none at all. They are just a product of 'the spirit of the world'.

Could just be a case of 'gluten for punishment syndrome'.
That's because you need to sort the wheat from the chaff.

So sad that pregnant mothers and their husbands have to go through all the extra stress that this cult lays on them with the worry of refusing blood. I'm not sure why the doctors were so worried about the c-section and your friend needing blood or not surviving.
I had a c-section because I had preeclampsia and my blood tests showed my kidneys and liver were starting to shut down. Preeclampsia was the main cause of maternal death not so long ago before regular blood pressure checks and blood tests were implemented but there was no blood transfusion suggested, I just had saline.
Really sad your friends were put though this additional pain and stress because of a religious belief. I hope mother and baby are doing well.

Yogosans you're only 18 now I think? Do you think it would be a good idea to do some research on the history of religion? Also as your parents are not JWs why do you feel forced to go to the memorial with your JW relatives? -

Why do people "come back"?
by kairos ini know of several examples of ones that "left the truth" for up to 20 years, only to suffer through the reinstatement process and feel like they are finally back on track.. how does this happen?.
i personally know of one example where a father of three, leaves jws, abandons wife and family, lives as a gay man then comes back 20 years later as a partaking member of the anointed..

I just don't understand people still believing it after years away. When we stopped going to meetings or reading the rags the mind control loosened and the nonsense started to fade rapidly from my mind because we were avoiding the almost daily indoctrination.
Perhaps it's one benefit of sending in a DA letter. We were safe from any interference by elders, friends or family, no-one to 'encourage' us to go back. We had already been reading and that just carried on, science, history, philosophy. People need to read when they leave and also meet people outside of the religion.
We didn't have any choice, we had to get jobs to get out of the pioneer poverty trap. We certainly met a lot of new non-JW people. I did an IT course at a college to help me get a job and we had to give a three minute presentation to finish the course, a confidence builder for job hunting. I did a talk on JWs. I had them laughing their heads off, a good experience. People need to move on with their lives to prevent them going back.

Sometimes it has seemed to me to be unfair that those that suffer most from this cult are those who totally believed it and who devote themselves to it. The justice seems to be that when they stop believing in the teachings wild horses can't drag them back. -

Please help me figure out my dreams
by Socrateswannabe inhi everyone, this may be the stupidest post ever.
i am stumped for an answer and would love to hear your opinions, though.
every week or two for the last couple of years, i have a dream--or at least that's what i'm calling it--that consists of me waking up or thinking that i've waked up, and seeing the ceiling of my darkened bedroom filled with algebraic equations.

When my daughter was a baby she didn't sleep well. I had so little sleep I would start dreaming before I was properly asleep. My brain would generate vivid sometimes 3D images as soon as I closed my eyes because it was desperate for REM sleep. Very odd experience but rather cool. Are you sleep deprived for any reason?

What are the Witnesses Afraid Of ?
by Sour Grapes inif the witnesses have the truth and have been going to meetings for many years and every week they learn how to be effective in the ministry and learn about the bible on sundays and every week have a family worship night, why are they afraid to talk to anyone who doesn't agree with them or question their beliefs?
if they have the truth then nothing can refute it.
the truth is the truth.

Sadly they have been mind-controlled to believe the whole world is out to get them. They can't listen to anyone's ideas because everyone in the 'world' is in the grip of Satan who is trying to deceive and destroy them. Even people who seem genuine are like their father the Devil who can turn himself into an angel of light.
Just reading what I've written makes me feel sick from the memory of all that paranoia.

"The Kingdom—100 Years and Counting" Video
by wifibandit inaka how to gloss over/lie about your history.. hurd starts off trying to sell the idea that the bible students were unsure of what would supposedly happen in 1914. this is a double lie.. first, they were not in doubt.
but bear in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date for the beginning, but for the end of the time of trouble.

They're the words from the kingdom song 'Be Glad you Nations with his People'. Don't know if that's significant at all. Pretty sure it's not a pre - 1914 song, I'm not that old.
What is surprising is that I remember it after being out for 27 years. That's indoctrination for you!
Perhaps they are are targeting people who remember the song and are thinking how much longer to the end?
Who knows!
