James Horner dies
by Xanthippe ini'm shocked to hear that composer james horner has been killed in a plane crash aged 61. so many film scores, titanic, avatar, braveheart, field of dreams, aliens, cocoon, patriot games, bicentennial man, star trek iii: the search for spock, sneakers, batteries not included, the name of the rose and many, many more.
a genius who will be sadly missed.
he gave us so much beautiful music..

I agree Terry he had another two decades of genius to give which now we have lost. Very sad. His wonderful music lives on. -

Charity
by aintenoughwiskey inwe know the wt interpretation of matt 25:40 is support of the anointed.
since most of us here are no longer in that situation, what, if any forms of charity are you involved in?
sorry for the awkward framing of the question, it's not meant to imply atheists, or non-christians are not charitable!

Yes we are so lucky to have medical care readily available. When I read stories on that website I realise I have nothing to complain about. -

Faye I love The Smile Train too. They help children for such a small amount of money.
There is also a fantastic charity based in Addis Ababa called the The Fistula Foundation. It helps women in many developing countries who had obstructed labour sometimes for a week because they cannot afford a C-section. Their bladder and sometimes bowel too are damaged by the labour and they end up permanently incontinent and are often outcasts from their village. A simple operation costing $450 cures them.
This charity changes the lives of women who had agonising labour for days usually resulting in a dead baby and a ruptured body. They're doing a wonderful job.

10 years and Satan finally struck....
by snare&racket ini left around a decade ago, life has not been easy, but it has been profoundly better than the jw robotics my earlier life chapters resembled.. my current life was going so well, too well...... and finally the nemesis of jahooha came out from his dark hiding place.
no longer in gods tent i was as vulnerable as the chinese job and his unfortunate sheep and children.. satan, bless his socks of cotton, has finally attacked, he broke my leg the dark lordy bastard.. a spiral fracture of the fibula and various fractures the ankle joint.. the worst of all his evil doings was the story i have to tell people, it's 'mechanism of injury'..... i slipped on some grass.
yes the devilish ball rash, got me good.. so now, i sit bored, wishing i had meetings to prepare for, talks to write and i long for the live bombing i would have received as an interesting new kingdom hall event in the decades of waiting on jahooha..... but all i have is some lame ass, american apostates on a forum..... tchhhh.... .

WWF, UNICEF, Save the Children. I give very small amounts but it's the regularity that's important. Also a member of Amnesty International which is not strictly a charity but has a charitable section. I've sometimes emailed or written to national leaders about prisoners of conscience. -

Small details...
by Garrett ina witness friend wanted to meet up recently and talk.
since this person was a close friend and who i thought had a level head, i'd go ahead and speak with him.
our conversation actually helped me figure a few things out not only for myself but also about the witnesses.. so we're talking and i'm telling him my experience and the doctrines that i disagreed with as well as the scandals that made me disgusted with the organization.

Garrett I like your car analogy. If you apply it to the key teachings of the religion when it began it goes something like this. The Bible Students started preaching that we are living in the time of the end that Jesus prophecied about and therefore we all need to leave Christendom and join them in the preaching work to survive Armageddon and save others.
So first take away that it's going to happen in one generation from the Kingdom being set up in 1914. Say that it is going to be within overlapping generations of 1914, which could go on for decades. Then say that what Jesus prophecied actually mostly applied to the first century. Then say we don't have to reach everyone because God reads hearts, so let's do lots of building work instead to make ourselves cosy in this system with comfortable branch offices, KH and assembly halls, which by the way can you all send money to us to pay for!
What you're left with is a totally different religion that has been changed piece by piece as you said. Now none of us are living in the time of the end at all. When they said millions now living will never die they were wrong and they're all dead. Either God got mixed up or he keeps getting his signals crossed to the FDS so they started too early.
Even staying within their own beliefs now those alive are not living in the time of the end and they've proved that they can't work out when the end is coming. They are all going to die and have to be resurrected to paradise. How is that different from any other religion? So why bother preaching? Why not live their lives and wait for the resurrection? What's the hurry?

Yes my husband was 30 when he was made an elder. It's good to know young guys are wising up now and leaving this religion.BTW Is it me ladies, or are some ex JW men inappropriately school boy like when it comes to sex...I guess they are catching up emotionally as well as physically!!!
It's not just you Diogenesister. They are catching up, like kids in a sweet shop sometimes. By their posts and especially their pictures I often think men on here are about eighteen or perhaps early twenties. Then they let slip they are in their forties or fifties. I like your posts by the way, welcome. -

Why are JWs so against debate
by enigma1863 inif the jws follow proverbs 27:17 they should not be afraid of any tension or friction.. in order for iron to sharpen iron you need pressure, tension friction and a bit of heated debate..
