GEOFFREY JACKSON THE PERSONABLE FACE OF JW.ORG...BUT IT AIN'T OVER YET BUDDY
by steve2 insince geoffrey jackson's appearance before the australian royal commission on friday there has for some been an expressed feeling of anticlimax.
it is as though he was given too much latitude to preach, to claim ignorance and to skirt questions.
more to the point, as much as i myself thought i would never have expected to say this, gj actually came across as likeable and - don't throttle me please!

Of course there will be legal and financial penalties for religions and other organisations that refuse to follow mandatory reporting in Australia. This may take years to come to light and be prosecuted so I think it will be a case of the long game here. The arrogance of the Borg and their belief that God's law is above all man made laws may be their undoing yet. -

If the Royal Commision's recommendations to government result in all religious organisations in Australia having to follow mandatory reporting of every incidence of child abuse they become aware of it could be very interesting. Will Australia have a separate elders manual and branch manual? How will this affect how the GB instruct the rest of the congregations internationally? -

Mr Jackson said we would notice if the GB said things outwith the scriptures????
by notsurewheretogo inin the rc yesterday mr jackson said that if wrong direction was given by the gb, the rank and file would notice it.
.
i see plenty of things that the gb say that is not in scriptures but if i say the gb are wrong i'm df....

I thought exactly the same thing. What difference does it make if people can tell if the GB are saying things that are unscriptural, they have to keep their mouths shut on pain of exile from all the people they know and love.
The indefensible thing about this is that Jackson implied under oath that JWs would all be able to object to any unscriptural directions the GB give!

The recent Royal Commission hearings have stirred up my emotions ....
by troubled mind ini hope the royal commission will be able to force the jw organization to take a serious look at itself ,and will cause some much needed changes.. i have been following the trial faithfully ,and unfortunately it has dredged up some deep pains from years ago .
you think some of that old baggage is neatly packed away never meant to see the light of day again .....but then boom there it is again .. hearing what bcg had to go through, and how she felt trying to get help from the elders was heart-wrenching.
i remember the terrible way young women were treated in the 1970's .

Troubled mind, thank you for telling your story and for being an example to many of us who are still trying to find that glorious freedom of totally accepting ourselves. We will go forward together and our victory will be that we need no one to tell us our worth. -

This too Shall Pass (RC Commission vs WTS)
by undercover inwhile i'm glad that the practices of the wts are under review and the australian commission is taking them to task, i'm not really expecting huge changes in the long run.
oh, they may have to agree to some changes in how they report crimes brought to elders' attention, but this excitement over the supposed expose of wt practices shall pass, and jws will soon be canvassing neighborhoods and rolling their carts, looking for converts.
conventions will go on.

Social change is always very slow. It is only when we look back that we can see the defining moments in history. The ARC will probably be listed as one of the things that worked towards establishing the rights of children after the world fought for racial equality, women's rights, gay rights and animal rights in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. -

Has the Royal Commission website removed Geoffery Jackson from schedule?
by Indian Larry inearlier this morning the royal commission website stated:.
"the royal commissions public hearing into the jehovahs witnesses will recommence in sydney on friday 14 august 2015 at 11:00am.. it is anticipated that the hearing will hear from one witness, mr geoffrey jackson, a member of the governing body of jehovahs witnesses.
"now that has been changed.

Still says he is anticipated to be heard. If you go to :-www.childabuseroyalcommission.gov.au and on the home page it gives latest news. Click on JWs and it still says he will be the only witness to appear on Friday 14 August. -

Atacrossroads and Tornintwo I think you are both incredibly brave women. I don't have any advice because I had such a different experience but I just wanted to wish you well on your journeys.
