Yes it frightened me. I can remember my mother saying that people who can control their breathing were the most successful at coping with torture. Don't you think this cult is evil for driving people that crazy!

Did you ever think about being persecuted?
by Funchback ini was introduced to the jw religion at the age of 7. i can't recall when i was taught about having to suffer persecution in the so-called last days, but i do remember thinking that i would crumble under pressure.. as i entered my young adult years, i imagined how governments would persecute us.
i had thoughts of being tortured for information and then how i would say anything to the torturer just to stop the pain and then be labeled a modern-day judas, missing out on everlasting life.. the jw way of life and expectations are both scary and unrealistic.. i am glad i have canceled armageddon.
also, if i should ever be tortured for some belief or principle, i shall remain strong until the end.

Elder wants to stop by with the CO for a visit .
by NikL inso i got a text from an elder who i consider one of the good guys and a friend in his own way.. he asked if he could bring the co by for a visit.
he said it would be "just a pleasant call and visit and will hopefully encourage my wife".
he says that "he knows she is dealing with a ton of pressure".. in all my years around the organization, i never had a visit from the circuit overseer.

So now the elder has texted back and said he meant Thursday. Said "sorry his bad". Sheesh.
He's manipulating you by pretending he meant another day so whatever day you said you couldn't make it he would change it. What does this tell you?
This 'sort of' friend lied to you. If the CO pushes you into a corner with a 'do you still think the FDS are God's representatives on earth?' question, be sure if you answer in the negative your 'friend' will be on the JC that disfellowships you, even if it's in your absence.

I'm glad you enjoyed buying gifts and cards to bring happiness to others. Hope you have a lovely first Christmas.
Yes they are very paranoid people. The sad thing is they think Satan and this world are out to get them when it's their fellow 'brothers' who are often out to get them, catch them out in something forbidden and tell the elders. Oppression breeds oppression.
Festivals of light are part of many religions at this cold, dark time of year. I don't like the commercialism but I just try and ignore it. I buy small gifts I hope people will like and realise I care about them. I love holly and conifers, sparkling lights, food and wine.
Have a good one!

What is life?
by punkofnice inwhen i was a jobo, i used to thing of 'life without end at laaaasssssst'.. having been on my journey out of the wbt$ slaveholdery, i have found that something that makes sense is that life doesn't owe us a meaning.
psalms 146:4 was actually bangeth on the money-eth 'his breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.'.
although i am now very atheist, and really do not even think there is the remotest possibility of a god, that bible passage is correct.

Hi Punk, I drove home from work really tired this evening and that always makes me feel down but then I saw lots of Christmas lights in a little village. It was so pretty, trees full of lights and even reindeer shapes picked out in lights. It lifted my spirits. Ordinary people living their little lives, being as happy as they can.
Somebody at work today who is suffering from depression thanked me for being kind to her last week which meant a lot to me.
I enjoy food, wine, mountains, blue skies, stars, friends, movies, art, music and travel.
I don't know what the hell it's all about Punk but we live in a huge universe and when people say we understand it all I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Don't give up, keep an open mind. Your brain won't fall out, it may just get happier.

"You Wouldn't Believe How Many Have Crawled Back To The Meetings"
by minimus inthat's a comment i heard from an elder i haven't seen in over a decade, yesterday.
i mentioned it all on my other thread.
i responded that i knew of no one that was crawling back to the meetings and gave him an incredulous hearty chuckle.

What deludinoids
Love that word sparrowdown.
If it's even true that some crawl back it shows the value of doing your research when you leave to be sure in your own mind it's not the truth.

The sugar cube.
by The Rebel infirstly thanks to cofty & smiddy for the kind words on my " final post" .
this post is simply to say over two months have passed since my last post and since then i have with my wife and son seen elton john live, visited stockholm, berlin, and most importantly appreciated " the natural beauty of my neighbourhood" with out even thinking about the watchtower.
i have also attended 3 watford football matches with my son and made better relationships with my parents, discovered harvey's draught beer and made new friends in my local pub.

Rebel so glad you're enjoying life with your lovely family. I know what you mean, I can sit stirring sugar into my coffee and look out at the frost sparkling on my garden and think I am very lucky to live in a rich country (same one as yours) and have a small but warm house and enough to eat each day. Life is good isn't it?

Drives me crazy the way he says when the world was still naive about child abuse the GB knew about is and brought out that Awake! in 1982. Lets go back a little further to the source of their amazing knowledge and authority, the Bible.
If three thousand years ago the 'inspired' writers were way ahead of the naive 'world' why make that ridiculous two witness rule about immorality and rape if they knew there are never any witnesses to child abuse. Why do the GB insist on sticking to this naive ancient rule if they are light years ahead of the worldly authorities.

I always use that phrase to people, that my family act as if my daughter and I are dead. It sounds like we're bring drama queens but we're not are we? It's actually how JWs justify it.

Did you ever experience true kindness in the Org?
by HereIgo ini remember when i was about 17, i started shunning an older brother because he was disfellowshipped.
when i graduated high school, he pulled me aside and said " i know you are not supposed to talk to me, but i want you to have this" it was a gift that he had custom made for me.
i was so blown away, we never even had a real conversation before.

Individual JWs showed me great kindness. Meals when I was pioneering. A lady did the flowers for my wedding as a gift. The individual men and women in my congregation brought all the food for our wedding reception because we had no money. I did the same for others. Did the Org.show me kindness? No! I was pioneer fodder. Plenty more where I came from when I collapsed with exhaustion.

Do you use a dictionary?
by compound complex inin my work, i rely upon google for quick answers on definition (denotation), pronunciation (audio), etymology, shades of meaning (connotation), etc.. what i really mean is, do you use an actual unabridged websters, the one you get a hernia lifting?
i ask because, last night, i was tired of fighting with my two ailing computers and decided to pull the big book off the shelf.
it was great, hearkening back to olden times -- childhood -- when i read real books and periodicals and wrote unknown words into a notepad (the paper sort) and pored over old noah's offerings.. your thoughts?.

Usually an online one but I have been known to get a concise Oxford off the shelf if I write a snail mail letter. My spelling is so bad I think I'm slightly dyslexic. Yes I just had to look up dyslexic.
