Writers (not God) are at fault
by anointed1 inif scriptures are written by people who have no sense of justice, it is natural that god would be misrepresented—something that happened to the biblical god.
to mention a few:.
1) david, murderer of the innocent and faithful, wrote portions of the bible.. 2) paul who set in opposition to genuine apostles who were directly trained by jesus himself sarcastically describing them as “superfine apostles” openly declared in some places that it was not spirit, but he was writing.

You think wondering what the universe is all about is being egotistical? Why? We should just feel humble and small? The masses have been held down for centuries by being told to be humble or else burn in hell, get stuck in purgatory, a lower caste or die at Armageddon blah, blah, blah.
It's been a ploy of religious and political leaders to keep control of people. If God exists why would he want you to be stupid to keep you humble? You can be intelligent, question everything and still not be egotistical. It's about the joy of learning new things, not about saying how clever we are.

1. The universe being vast is for us to imagine it's there to teach us humility is a heck of a waste of intellect.
2. We could be destroyed by a meteorite at any time, it probably killed the dinosaurs.
3. Do I have to list countless poisonous berries, plants and fungi that we have only learnt to avoid through heartbreaking trial and error? A few labels from God would have been helpful.
4. You attribute the collected wisdom of human literature and philosophy to God? Purely on the basis that a lot of it makes sense? You give us so little credit. Get off your knees and engage your brain.

Following that logic God has no written will or requirements for us therefore religion is redundant. We can choose to be moral, ethical, thinking beings. We need to care for our planet and our fellow humans if we are to survive.
Personally I don't think he exists but when you say
Interestingly, God’s silence gives a louder and clear message that giving a book is not His way of guidance, hence He has no obligation to protect
I wonder what you think his way of guidance is? His silence gives the clear message of his non-existence to me.

Poor people are sub-human?
by Alostpuppydog inhas anyone noticed how many jw's really seem to be rollin in it?
escpecially the elders, and they treat their subordinates like filthy gum on the bottom of their shoe?
just wondering because i too am poorer than poor and have spent a fourth of my life homeless already and i am 22.. another thing to consider is why domost of the population on this planet seem to hate the poor, even though we outnumber the middle class and the rich greatly?

So when you feel pity for them remember that nearly every one of them has had friends, family and Uncle Sam bleed tears and cash to fix them.
You cannot possibly know that. I see you are talking about your own experience but not everyone's is the same. You don't even know the situation in my country. I am sorry you have had a very sad experience with your family but not everyone tries to help theirs as you have.

Although I basically agree with you DJS because personal responsibility is vital for a successful life, I know that many homeless people (that you said you hope die under bridges) are mentally ill.
Often because they were sexually abused as children and left home because home was hell. Then they can't get a job because they don't have an address. They can't get a home because they don't have a job. They can't get government benefits because they have no address and bank account.
I know you will just shout me down because that's the mood you're in but some people are born into unfairness and abuse.

Smiddy stress can deplete the brain of neurotransmitters such as serotonin needed to combat depression. Sometimes what you need to get better is lots of rest to let your body build up its supplies again. Trying to engage in social activities when you have depression is a crushing burden, I know. Just letting people know you care but allowing them to rest is best.

I feel really, really sorry for those born into the Jehovah's Witness religion
by jambon1 insome facts that make the difference between you and me:.
1 - as a person raised by non jw family, my parents have never loved me based on conditions set out by a group of old men who they don't even know.
how does it feel to know that you are in the unique situation where your parents brought you into the world and said 'i'll show love to you.

Yes I agree it is very damaging to children. The basic idea that your parents don't love you just for being their child does lasting harm. I would do anything for my daughter, she knows this. She has grown up stronger than I did because of it.
The judgemental way we are taught to look at other people is also harmful. It stops you seeing individuals with all their good, bad, interesting and quirky qualities.
People are fun, sometimes they drive you crazy but generally when the chips are down, most people you know would be there for you. They aren't a faceless mass of bad people who deserve to die.
I just want to add it's taken me a ridiculously long time to understand people because of my JW upbringing. I'm inclined to give up on people because of my childhood beliefs. Also because my family are like brick walls, there's no getting through to them, I tend to see other people like that.
I think that's it, that's the end of the friendship because we had a slight falling out. However if I try again they are fine! They've either forgotten all about it or they want me to forgive them! Who knew friends could be like this! I'm still learning, my daughter learned all this at primary school because she was allowed to have friends. It's taken me so long. Better late than never.

Yes I am aware of this attitude towards poor people. I was born into a poor family. The attitude was that you are lazy, stupid, just not trying. As a child this is hard to take because it's the situation you're born into.
My father had mental health problems. He lost his dad when he was seven or eight and was put in an orphanage for several years. I'm not sure if he saw his mother at all during those years. He eventually went home but it must have affected him. So he could only cope with manual work, there were few opportunities when he grew up in the thirties anyway.
My mother was a shorthand typist but she stayed at home and looked after her four children. We were very poor. I am very familiar with this attitude towards poor people. All of my friends became prefects at school but not me. Yet I was in the top classes with them because I was clever too. I really think it's because I wore second hand clothes.
Anyway I just wanted to say I hear you Alostpuppydog. It was hard work getting a distance learning degree and eventually a good job. It's been a long struggle and I sympathise. Anyone can become homeless. I hope things are picking up for you now.

The Lion King was based on Hamlet. Themes of families and feuding are in Greek mythology as well of course, but then we have created our gods in our own image.
