If they're neither inspired nor infallible how the heck can they be the FDS? Why would anyone be disfellowshipped for not believing they're god's representatives? Everyone that has doubts gets the loyalty question but if they don't know what their God is thinking why should anyone follow them?

"The Governing Body is neither inspired nor infallible. Therefore, it can err in doctrinal matters or in organizational direction." -- Feb 2017 Watchtower
by cognisonance infull stop.
(paragraph 12 -- feburary 2017 watchtower -- who is leading god's people today?
)so why then would any jw abide by harmful doctrines setup by the governing body (blood, shunning, the two-witness rule, etc)?

Some Good News About Me (Although Anthony Morris Will Be Furious)
by pale.emperor injust wanted to share with you some good news i'm really excited about.
i have been accepted for university to study psychology and counseling.
my goal is to become a counselor and, in time, to specialize on treating those who have left high control relationships/groups like we all did.. it'll take a few years before im qualified but studying in university has been a dream of mine since i was 12, which was systematically dashed to pieces by watchtower.. .

I've said it before but the Borg know exactly what the COs are saying. These verbal commands are not in the literature for the very reason they can deny it if challenged, as they were by the ARC on their shunning procedures.
The verbal commands go into the minds of the R+F and they know this is what is required of them. It's very clever and insidious, so much of what I believed as a JW was verbally taught in talks and denied if necessary because it wasn't in print.

Do You Think Jehovah's Witnesses Are Typically Ignorant People?
by minimus ini think most witnesses are simple minded.many are ignorant.
there are a lot of basically "good people "in the religion but i believe many are kind of dumb, including many elders.
do you agree with my thoughts??
-
Xanthippe
I have known doctors, teachers and airforce officers who became JWs but in the main they've been poorly educated people.
Yes Minimus it was hard to listen to uneducated elders stand up and tell you how to live your life, men that could barely pronounce words correctly.
The WTS make a virtue out of being ignorant, equating it with humility. They want to keep them stupid, hence the disapproval of higher education.

(Why any woman would have respect for the bible baffles me).
Personally I hated the way men acted towards me in that religion and who can blame their misogyny with scriptures like that condoning rape. I thought Jehovah would explain it all to me in the new world but instead it was Darwin.

What Is the JW Belief Regarding the Millennium?
by Cold Steel inmost christian religions believe it will be a thousand-year period of peace.
jws, however, seem to believe in the resurrection and then life on paradise earth.
but do they believe in the millennium the way other christians do -- where the lion will lay down with the lamb [bzzzt...mandela effect correction] wolf will lay down with the lamb?

I've been LDS for 45 years and have friends who are highly active in the ex-Mormon community.
So why are you here? On an ex-JW site. Are you trying to recruit vulnerable people who have just esaped the JW cult? I find that objectionable, preying on struggling, wounded people.

Over 300 DFed apparently went to a northern U.K R.C!
by Isambard Crater inthat's what i've been told by a family member (elder) who went to one of the regional conventions in the north of the u.k lately, who told me the 300 or more disfellowshipped who returned to jehovah by attending show that the end is so close, just like the final talk says..
-

So the cult says 300 have returned to the cult. Must be true then.

No Longer Afraid
by compound complex ingreetings, dear friends and fellow survivors:.
i am grateful to be alive and associated with like-minded people, both here on this wonderful forum and in day-to-day interaction with friends, neighbors, clients, but, sadly, few if any jehovah's witnesses.
i have, somehow, become detached from the sadness and sorrow of the past, about which i have written on this and other ex-jw forums for some dozen-plus years.

I'm glad you're able to be frank about your life experience and who you are now 😀 Contentment and peace sound beautiful. I find that joy is a bonus that pays an occasional visit when we least expect it.

Are JWs "mind trained" to be habitual liars?
by nonjwspouse ini don't mean overly obvious, or otherwise meaning to cause harm, but taught to lie for the purpose of avoidance.
this type of lying can be pervasive in areas of life that are not just to avoid discussions with people who have questions about the jw, etc.
my husband will lie/be deceitful about the silliest, simple things.
-
Xanthippe
It's all about avoidance isn't it. I have a relative who habitually lies to avoid confrontation because she likes everything to be 'nice' and everyone to get on. You can see how this personality type is either drawn to this religion or stays in it as a born in.
The whole culture is avoid reality, avoid looking at the world as something that can be changed but as a waste of time that God needs to destroy. Just wait for panda paradise. Therefore a JW has the supreme avoidant personality. They're bound to lie to avoid trouble. Thanks for this thread, very interesting.
