i know that a lot of the people on here have turned their backs on the idea of a deity deciding that god does not exist.

but what about the unseen spirit world generally such as poltergeists, jinns, voodoo, etc.

if you have become agnostic, atheist, or just don't care since leaving, do you think that there are spirits out there or have you decided that is also hokum?

  My post was not ambiguous, merely ironic. I see both sides of the argument for examining the paranormal and totally understand why many don't.
  My personal research into the paranormal over thirty years since leaving the cult has led me to the conclusion that mind is more than the brain and therefore the survival of consciousness after death is feasible.

The paranormal / supernatural is the same as magic - defying normal / rational / provable science
- Many things do seem like magic, defying normal, rational, provable science. It has been like that since the dawn of time. Gradually we have found all things obey the laws of physics, they just seem like magic.

Once bitten twice shy I'm afraid. People who've had their lives screwed up for decades by religious nonsense are terrified of being taken in again. That's why they won't read a single line on a website or read one book about the paranormal and then they insist there's no evidence.

Then they wheel on the fat magician and say nobody could convince him by doing exactly what he wanted according to his 'scientific' guidelines so he wouldn't give them the million dollars. So that proves it doesn't it! I don't have to read any books or think about it. The magician says there's no evidence so that's that. Nobody wants to be fooled again.

I loved the film Bohemian Rhapsody! I remember the song so well in the seventies with that video. Yes he was definitely bi not gay, he deeply loved Mary but lived with a man until his death. Amazing actor and wasn't the Brian May lookalike so good.

Bob Geldof actor was excellent, he had the Geldof walk to perfection. I'm glad they ended on Live Aid with some of the real footage rather than focus on Freddy dying. Loved it, love the music of Queen.

7 years ago i had my last conversation with the toxic jw that mostly raised me.

every conversation was toxic for my entire adult life with her.

the last time we spoke was right before the memorial 7 years ago and she was laying on the usual heavy guilt and fear mongering about how jeho counts his people at the memorial.

My non-JW dad tried to get one of my sisters and I together when he found out she'd shunned me for fifteen years. He phoned her and then said she's fine about talking to you now. I doubted it very much but did as he asked because my mother had died and he wanted us to make up.

She said, Dad doesn't understand the situation. Her whole tone was, you know why we're doing this to you and you should understand you deserve it. I lost it and said how could he understand, how could anyone understand, what you're doing in cruel and unusual punishment! She said I was criticising her religion and slammed the phone down.

Her husband has cancer so I've heard on the grapevine. Will she realise how cruel she's been if he dies and she becomes a widow too? I doubt it somehow. I'm afraid I will not comfort her, I'm not a Christian, I don't forgive seventy times seven times.

Precisely the point I was making Simon, even though LUHE has twice asserted you can legally refuse to serve someone because they are gay and show them the door.

As you say and as I said first, you cannot. I was making no comment on whether or not the legislation is ill-conceived, simply that LUHE does not understand British law but as usual he has buggered off when shown to be wrong.

I don't know Simon, I'm simply answering LUHE's point that you can refuse to serve someone and ask them to leave without getting into trouble in the UK.

If he doesn't want to serve a customer, he doesn't have to. Assuming he owns the premises, he can order anyone to leave his shop.

Not under British law he can't. If he tells them to leave because they are gay, Muslim, disabled etc he could be found guilty of discrimination or a hate offence.
