I love wholemeal bread but I find it difficult to make. Mine tends to get very heavy. I tend to make white rolls becaues they always bake well and I save some dough to make a pizza. I love home-made pizza and so does my daughter.

I'm sorry to hear you are are going through this stressful time Mamamo. I took my father to the eye clinic regularly when he was in his seventies. He was afraid of going blind because he had glaucoma. When I picked him up and took him home my JW mother would barely acknowledge me. I do understand. Take care of yourself.

Are atheists afraid of archaeology?
by Xanthippe inlarsinger thinks we are.
i have to answer this because it makes my blood boil.
this is one of the key things that trapped me in a religion for the first 30 years of my life.. we were told the archaeologists have found ur of the chaldeans, babylon, nineveh and evidence for the existence of the hittites.therefore the other things in the bible must be true.. archaeologsts have also found troy in modern day turkey.

ArbolesdeArabia the archaeological site of the ancient city of Troy in Turkey has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998. Many archaeologists have worked at this site and not just Heinrich Schliemann.
The artifacts found at that site are held in the Troy exhibition called 'Troy from legend to reality' in the Istanbul Archaelogical Museums. Check out their website.

Band on the Run :-
When I was a child and teenager, I was so impressed by the misconstrued secular evidence. I truly believed worldly science backed the WT view. It made no sense to me why everyone was not a JW with such scientifc backing.
They are a religion. I can understand doctrinal stances. The deliberate distortion of secular sciences is outright lying, not just faulty interpretation.
Exactly my point. Succinctly put, thank you.

Archaeologsts have also found Troy in modern day Turkey. Heinrich Schliemann started excavating there in 1868. He found several Trojan cities there. So therefore Homer's Iliad must all be true mustn't it? So does this mean that Paris existed and was he asked by three Goddesses, Hera, Athena and Aphrodite to choose between their beauty?
Did Aphrodite then offer to give him Helen of Sparta as a bribe to choose her as the most beautiful goddess, starting the Trojan War? Was there really an Achilles, the most famous of the warriors in that war, according to Homer, born of the nymph Thetis and Peleus, the king of the Myrmidons? Did Thetis dip him by his heel in the river Styx and almost make him immortal apart from his 'Achilles heel'?
This must all be true mustn't it if they have excavated the city of Troy?
Reality and legend mixed together have been the accepted 'history' of all ancient nations for millennia. Finding Bible cities does not mean the rest of the Bble is true.
This false premise enslaved me. I am not afraid of archaeology. I am not afraid of any knowledge but I claim the right to continue using my brain and questioning what that knowledge means.

Great thread Lois, everyone has made really interesting replies. Do regular pioneers do 50hrs a month now? I wonder what 100hrs a month for 10 yrs would have been worth in pounds if they'd paid me
I got a good temporary job after leaving the JWs on the strength of the fact that I had started an Open University degree. Then I had five years off to have my daughter. My husband also got a job with his OU degree and then a better one, then a much better one and so on. When I went back to work when my daughter started school I used the reference from that first good job to get the one I have now, which I love and I've been there for almost 13 years.
In the UK it is still the case that any degree shows a level of education and critical thinking that employers are looking for. It suggests the ability to think for yourself, use your initiative etc. My daughter is most definitely going to a university. I have always linked education in her mind with having an interesting and fulfilling job and the ability to travel, buy a house or a horse etc. Amazingly she has found that she also loves learning for it's own sake and adores literature.
It's not about greed. It's about an end to poverty for pioneers.

Atheist but I am convinced we are still evolving and that our consciousness now has the ability to survive death. I don't see any need for a supreme being in that evolution any more than we needed one to evolve the bodies we have now.
