There's lots of information around Monsieur. Try Google. Don't assume all the answers are on this forum. There are many disillusioned people on here who don't want to be fooled ever again so they refuse to look at any ideas apart from those endorsed by scientific papers as if they have made scientists their new gb. Think for yourself, do the research, it's hard work but rewarding.

How is Life measured at Death?
by Monsieur inrecently an old friend died in an accident at the tender age of 35. the unfortunate event has been described from 'sad' to 'unfair' etc.. dying of old age is one thing, dying of sickness even.. but dying abruptly in an accident (or worse, being eaten by another creature, shark etc) is downright ludicrious.. if there is no afterlife in any shape or form, and one dies being struck by a surviving drunk driver or murdered at a theater, a tornado, or mauled by piranhas, what the hell is the point of that??.
what of all your work to raise a good family, helping your fellow man, doing good deeds, building something etc.??.
it's almost laughable to think that one can do all these things and in the broad spectrum of things death can make it all ultimately meaningless....

Support your Brand/Cause/Campaign
by jgnat ini just figured this out; how to put that icon on my avatar for my favorite brand/cause/campaign.. twibbon does it.

I support Unicef Jgnat, particularly their immunisation campaign.
Also Amnesty International because I think when dictators throw innocent people into stinking prisons and torture them we have to stand up and say the world is watching you, don't think you can do this in secret.
Also WWF, particularly their save the tiger campaign - because I would like my grandchildren to be able to see a tiger!

Proof of Heaven book - anyone read it?
by jay dubless init was released a few months ago.
it is not religious propaganda.
written by dr eben alexander, a neurosurgeon, who went into a coma for a week, and his subsequent journey into the afterlife.

Yes I have read it Jay, I got it from my local library. It is difficult for Alexander to assert that he had consciousness during coma because he can only describe the events in his mind during coma. Other NDE accounts I have read describe verifiable events in the room, in other parts of the building or even in other cities while undergoing NDE.
Some interesting things I noted were that he had never looked into NDE accounts previously because he thought they were impossible and dismissed them as he was trained to do. After this experience he did read about those of other people and found many similarities. Previously when many of his patients told him of their experiences he, as a scientist, had dismissed them out of hand as all of his colleagues did also. That doesn't strike me as scientific approach to anything.
Also he raises a subject that I have often thought about, the placebo effect. This is where some patients in a study are given inert pills. Often some of the patients on the useless medicine improve and this is known as the placebo effect. Alexander points out that scientists recognise this as a known effect and acknowledge the brain's role in physical health but only bemoan it as something that is problematic when conducting a drug trial because the placebo effect confuses the results. He asks wouldn't it be more interesting to find out what the pleacebo effect is, how is it possible for belief in the brain to effect physical health?
I think that this guy can't win. He is described by critics as someone who cuts brains but does not study them! WTF! Let's hope he studied them before he cut them! Before his book people who had NDEs, with their anecdotal evidence, were dismissed as - not a scientist, not a brain surgeon. Now this neurologist is being dismissed as a liar and an attention- seeking money- maker.

Identity Crisis: Who Am I?
by Emery inafter learning ttatt, i have completely abandoned christian fundamentalism.
thus, dropping many superstitions, prejudices, and biases associated with legalistic interpretations of the bible.
although i am agnostic, i still adhere to many christian principles, not because i think they are divine truths, but because i've benefited from the wisdom.. since i no longer believe in the inspiration of the bible, i repeatedly find myself falling into questions of conscience, ones which i've never faced before... .

Yes I did have an identitiy crisis to start with Emery but as other people have said, I took my time to decide.
I love alcohol but have to give myself days off it for the sake of my liver and because I find if I drink too much I put weight on. Some can't drink at all because if they do they start having vodka with their cornflakes!
I hate the idea of smoking because when I grew up my father smoked which is hell to be around if you have a cold or hayfever.
I rarely lie unless I absolutely have to because I find people who habitually lie screw with their own heads.
I don't do drugs because my brain chemistry is very delicate anyway.
Yes I like to gamble occasionally.
I work hard at my job because clients complain if I don't and managers notice if I do and things go better for me. Managers are more willing to give me the annual leave I want and when I ring in sick they believe me and don't make my life hell.
I don't have a spouse to cheat on.
As for issues on war, firearms, gay marriage, abortion, euthanasia, etc etc., I make up my mind on things one at a time weighing all the facts. That's the great thing now, nobody tells me what to believe I just think it through and decide for myself. Love it.

The reason they like to highlight the suffering of Jesus at the memorial
by Xanthippe inis so they can then use it as an excuse to make the congregation work even harder.
surely if jesus had six-inch nails hammered through his hands you can do more in field service.. if jesus could die of slow asphyxiation on the torture stake you can get to the convention even if you have four kids and two jobs or are 93 and nearly blind.. you are letting jesus down and making his agony count for nothing if you don't give until it hurts.. this is why they talk about a man being tortured to death in graphic detail in front of little children as i once was at the kingdon hall.
this is why i dreaded the memorial..

mP:
Yes that's what I love about this time of year, rebirth. Lambs in the fields, bulbs flowering in my garden and soon the trees will break into leaf and blossom. The pagans knew how to have a good time didn't they, everything connected to the seasons and their lives. They still do so I'm told although there is far too much going around 'sky-clad' for my liking! I celebrate the beauty of spring while knowing there is no chance of my family starving, well unless it snows again today and I can't get to the supermarket!

Yes it's true I did leave decades ago but that is the kind of memorial talk I heard every year until the late eighties. Fortunately at Easter time my little girl didn't have to listen to this story of bloody torture as I did. She simply had chocolate eggs and fluffy bunnies to think about !
Give me pagan fertility religions any day! Were they all about sex? Actually no they were mainly about food. They asked the gods and godesses to bless their crops and their animals. If your crops failed and your animals failed to produce offspring this year you and your family might die of starvation.
These were people on the edge who were at the mercy of the weather and disease without knowing what controlled these forces. To be honest although science has taught us so much, to some extent it is the same for modern-day farmers except they don't ask the gods for help.
