Xanthipe - so we have sunk to the level of dismissing people's arguments on the basis of a spelling error have we?
You can give it out but you can't take it.
meletivivlon.com - interesting and enlightening theory on jesus and the signs.. wars, earthquakes, food shortages.. what if jesus meant the very opposite ?
jesus said - look out that nobody misleads you.
( jesus warning us as a safegaurd for us not to be mislead about exactly when the time would come ) .
People have spent 2000 years debating the meaning of these words, thousands of books have been written about them. We could have brought 'paradise' to the earth ourselves in all that time and with all that expended energy. Fed the hungry, housed the homeless, forged peace treaties between warring nations. Let's stop worrying about what this ancient book was on about and get this planet sorted, pleeease. Daddy isn't coming to help us, we must do it ourselves.

'Leaving aside the fact you have invented a nonsensical word - rational people do not assume they have the final answer at all. They just demand more than anecdotes before they accpet extraordinary claims. ' LOL own goal.
there seem to be so many tv programmes about horders whose houses are filled with rubbish that they can't throw out, peope with claustrophobia or other phobias, people with depression or anxiety illness.
i am not being accusatory because i've had depression but i'm just wondering what on earth is society doing to us?.
has there always been this level of mental health problems and they are just being given a label now and help is finally being offered?
Mentally ill people in the past were either tucked away in insane asylums or relegated to the attic in the family home. - Cobalt
Yes Cobalt, Rochester's wife in Jane Eyre springs to mind.
Simon we do have more money and it does bring happiness as long as there is not too much it seems from my observations. Yes people had more of a cohesive family unit than they do now although Freudian analysts think it is our families that drive us crazy!
James Brown and the Crushed, interesting thoughts, don't you have psychiatric hospitals or wards in general hospitals in the US? I suppose you mean they are not available for people who are not insured. In the Uk it seems many homeless people do have mental health problems but it seems many were abused as children and had to flee their family homes and then became ill through harsh conditions on the streets.
Mum, yes thanks for your thoughts, people have had to work so hard in the past for basic needs to be filled they were too exhausted to think of anything else.
It made me think of the hierarchy of needs and if, when we becaome more financially secure, we start to need other things? Do we get unhappy because we feel a need inside us but without education perhaps we don't know how to fill that need? Of course advertisers are more than happy to 'help' us fill that need with things, more and more stuff.
Maslow's original hierarchy of needs five-stage model includes:
1. Biological and Physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep.
2. Safety needs - protection from elements, security, order, law, limits, stability.
3. Belongingness and Love needs - work group, family, affection, relationships.
4. Esteem needs - self-esteem, achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility.
5. Self-Actualization needs - realizing personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.

Has there always been this level of mental health problems and they are just being given a label now and help is finally being offered? Or are we so much more stressed than we used to be? Yet most of us have enough to eat and a roof over our heads and often much more materially. Yet humans need more than material things don't they?
I remember studying history and there was a quote which I can't find on google, maybe someone on here remembers it. It was when Europeans started settling in the Americas and a native American chief said something like, these white men have this strange look in their eyes as if they constantly want something, we don't know what they want, we think they are mad. Sorry I can't remember more than that but you get the gist.
What do we want? Perhaps we don't have a clue. What do you think?
if the elders united, rebelled and shut up shop - would it bring down the wt.
they 'shepherd the flock' - does that make them more accountable than anyone else for the deception and lies and trickery and deceit.. are they all non-believers who are along for the ride ?.
are they cowardly for taking a stand ?.
Yes I had this thought two years ago Lost when I saw my brother who has been an elder for about twenty years at my cousin's golden wedding party. I hadn't seen him for three years since my husband's funeral and he had put on a tremendous lot of weight, looked very unhappy and by the way he was knocking back the booze I hope his wife was driving.
He knows TTATT I feel sure of it, he did not look a happy bunny. He is not stupid and yes he's accountable for the deception that he is part of and it is killing him slowly, I would say.

It's the Cyrus Cylinder, likely the first statement of Human Rights in history. Impressive? Well, the Jews thought so, they managed to re-write their history somewhat and make room for Cyrus to be the Messiah of Yahweh. So this probably Zoroastrian worshipper became associated with Judaism and then Christianity and his title of Shahenshar - King of Kings borrowed for Jesus.
Fascinating thanks for this and the vid. You have a very open mind, very refreshing. I keep meaning to find out more about Zoroaster because he was part of that upsurge of sentience aroung 400-500 BC along with Plato, Buddha and Confucius. So many of the things these guys said were then blended into Christianity, particularly the golden rule.

It's so long since I left this cult I just can't remember (happily ) but isn't all the blood stuff in the OT? Why are they clinging on to a Jewish food law when Jesus' coming was supposed to supersede all that?
recently an old friend died in an accident at the tender age of 35. the unfortunate event has been described from 'sad' to 'unfair' etc.. dying of old age is one thing, dying of sickness even.. but dying abruptly in an accident (or worse, being eaten by another creature, shark etc) is downright ludicrious.. if there is no afterlife in any shape or form, and one dies being struck by a surviving drunk driver or murdered at a theater, a tornado, or mauled by piranhas, what the hell is the point of that??.
what of all your work to raise a good family, helping your fellow man, doing good deeds, building something etc.??.
it's almost laughable to think that one can do all these things and in the broad spectrum of things death can make it all ultimately meaningless....
if we are to fully do this and fully allow it of any individual as his/her naturally given right, then can we criticize others for searching for said meaning?
Good question Monsieur. Those of us who have left the WTS now have the opportunity, many for the first time since we were born into that cult, to freely explore ideas and look for or create meaning in our lives that isn't dictated to us by others.
If any person or group of people on this earth are treated as absolute authority on every subject and those who question them are treated as mentally ill then the bright light of The Enlightenment will be extinguished.
