Hypocrites, so it's ok to use worldly organizations to assist in bringing an end to human rights abuses. Where is their God who is supposed to be doing this? Oh of course he is going to destroy this organization because it is so evil! They have to rely on human organizations because their God isn't doing anything just as they have relied on Amnesty International to free the JW prisoners of conscience. It's a great religion for using the world to get whatever you want but if individual JW members try to give something back financially to AI or UNICEF or through charity work they are severely criticised.

MUST READ: Books for Young JWs - a Required Reading List
by Oubliette ini've been contemplating a list of works of fiction that should be read by every young jehovah's witness, (12 - 18 years old).
the goal is to plant seeds of truth and critical thinking skills which could ultimately invoking cognitive dissonance and help them wake up to the truth about "the truth" (ttatt).
my idea is an adaptation of steven hassan's approach of not attacking a cult members beliefs directly, but rather indirectly by getting them to look at other similar belief systems and social structures, in this case fictional ones that mirror many of the destructive, oppressive features of jehovah's witnesses.

The Chrysalids by John Wyndham
A post - nuclear holocaust novel showing how people become afraid of anyone who is different especially when their own survival is threatened and the world seems a very frightening place. Which IMO is why people join cults in the first place.

Aggie Nostic, congrats to your wife getting her degree at 48, well done! I got mine at43, it's a fantastic feeling. Just a thought, sometimes they seem to react with this manipulative thing- they shun you, they love you alternately. The net result for us though is that we get disfellowshipped, disassociated over and over again if you understand me.
My siblings have done this to me. They kissed and made a fuss of my nine-year old daughter whom they had never met, at my mother's funeral. My father died shortly after that and again they were ok with us at his funeral. Then they dropped me again after the second funeral, refusing to meet up even for a coffee. When my husband died they came to his funeral and it was all kissy-face again - and then dropped me a few weeks later.
Just be aware that they do this and it is very painful. I have had enough and don't contact them now so I think you might be right not to reply to that letter, these people are so dysfunctional they can tear you apart. Needless to say they didn't come to my graduation, but I hope your wife has a great time at hers.

Give a Man a Fish...
by truth_b_known ingive a man a fish and he will eat for a day.. teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.. give a man a watchtower that explains to him he will starve until jehovah's new world comes and you are faithful in the eyes of the watch tower society.
to help that starving man by being charitable and feeding him you show a lack of faith in god's kingom.. how i stayed in for as long as i did i will never know why and will always regret..

The expression actually originated in Britain in the mid 19th century.
Anne Isabella Ritchie, the daughter of William Makepeace Thackeray, (who, if her photograph is any guide, was a studious young woman) wrote a story titled Mrs. Dymond, sometime in the 1880s and it includes this line.
"He certainly doesn't practise his precepts, but I suppose the patron meant that if you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour; if you teach him to catch a fish you do him a good turn."
This was used by Oxfam for a TV advert for their charity for a long time in the UK. Truth_b_known I know what you mean, how could we fall for that nonsense about not giving to charity but waiting for Jehovah to feed the hungry in the New System. What the WTS really meant was give the money to them! I can't believe I fell for it either.

I don't think Jehovah is asking too much from you, do you??
Well, you could say, what about:-
Giving up Xmas
Birthdays
a life-saving blood transfusion
Easter
Mother's day
Father's day
weekends
non-JW books
non-JW friends
independent thoughts
higher education
careers
a decent standard of living
money for holidays
money for a nice home
Is Jehovah asking too much? Only our entire life.

My Final Goodbye
by Lady Lee ini want to start by saying i will not participate in discussion here about my resignation as a moderator at jwn.. simon please consider this as my resignation from that position.. i have been posting on this board for almost 12 years.
i know some of you a lot, others a little and some not very well at all.
i have remained here for those of you who have needed support as you make the transition out of the wts, who needed someone to listen to your experiences of abuse at the hands of jehovah's witnesses, and to both laugh and cry with you as you progress out of the watchtower society.. we know that we have all experienced the cruelty of abuse of one kind or another.

Good grief she said how she felt and she left and over 7000 posts later people are still discussing what she 'really' meant. Weird, just like arguing over what the last days prophecies mean. Am I the only person who finds this really strange?

I am so, so sorry for your pain. It is an unbearable pain that you suffered. All I can say is you are still here to tell us your story and my heart and my admiration go out to you.
Do take care of yourself

Who has experienced a REAL demonic incident?
by Monsieur inhas anybody here experienced a bonafide, real, true incident in whicy 'demons' actually interacted with you or did something 'supernatural' that left you convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that satan and his demons exist??.
.

I'd like to point out that i know some scary shit happens and some things are difficult to explain, but to resist seeking rational explanations in favour of the supernatural is a very limiting behaviour. MOST things can be explained, some though are very puzzling and appear to defy explanation. WMF
still, I answered that I agree with this, things are difficult to explain, but they are natural - perhaps we don't totally understand the laws of physics completely yet - but no demunz
