My daughter got her A Levels yesterday and is off to university in September
by Xanthippe inshe took english, maths and physics and acheived a* a* and a. .
it is the best thing possible for me, even better than seeing her opening birthday presents or the day she won the halloween fancy dress prize at school.. her dad died five years ago but she has coped and done so well at school.
it has shown me that despite what happens in life you can still do well and reach your goals, especially if you take a cult upbringing out of the equation!

Did being a JW affect you socially?
by Mahtaw ini feel like i'm awkard in social situations.
i hate going up and talking to people i don't know.
i have trouble making friends.

Mahtaw I've been out 25years and I've struggled with socializing and making friends. I have 2 or 3 really good friends and I get on with my work colleagues now very well although that has taken a long time. I think in JWs they really are judging you constantly so we bring that with us when we leave and are over-sensitive. I have found that people are often just thoughtless in the things they say and do but not as judgemental as they seem. If something really bad happens to you most of those irritating people will be there for you on your side, that's been my experience. Keep trying, it will work out, when we leave we just look at the world through mud-coloured spectacles.

I am going to take a bit of credit too, I've held it all together for her, we both worked hard.

Well I gotta go......
by punkofnice in...i might drop in every now and then but i hope you all enjoy life, escape the watchtower(r) and live prosperous lives.. i can't say i contribute much here anyway (and i'm not attention seeking).. i'm just going to get on with life away from the constant reminder of the mistakes i made being a jw zombie drone.. i guess i'm just going to fade.......rather quickly.. of course i didn't need to make any posts here to disappear but i thought it'd be polite and very british to bid you all a fond farewell.. see you all sometime.....maybe.....maybe not.....maybe....... bye!.
ps.
don't pm me as i won't be checking the pms.. .

Alcyone was Jehovahs "crib"
by notjustyet ini was doing some reading up on the wtbts former belief that the annointed would go and be with jehovah and jesus on "alcyone" when they died.
(alcyone is a star system in the constellation taurus.
it is the brightest star in the pleiades open cluster, which is a young cluster, aged at less than 50 million years.

This one has completely passed me by notjustyet, thanks.

Being told you are hated by everyone?
by trailerfitter inokay, after a discussion with the seperated wife who admitted that because she is a jehovahs witness that she expects to be hated by everyone.
she expressed that she was "foreign" and not the same as others since she is not of this world.
okay, reality check - this is actually taught by the watchtower?

As I said on another thread JWs feel they constantly have to endure life instead of enjoy it. They don't need to keep enduring. It's an illusion created by that organisation by :-
a) Working the members half to death and causing chronic illness and psychiatric problems.
b) Forcing the members, by the use of weird doctrines, to be no part of the world which gives them a persecution complex because no normal person can understand them.

"Worldly" what does it mean?
by msconcerned ini have recently been using the expression "people not of our faith" and it shocks me to be corrected everytime by, "you mean worldly".
i dont really like the word worldly because i feel it is a degrading word to describe people we love so much that we try to find them in the ministry.
below are a couple of quotes from recent watchtowers that really give us the esscence of the word worldly as far as the watchtower is concerned.. janusz, who lives in eastern europe, became engrossed in his gardening business.

I use JW expressions like 'worldly' on here usually in inverted commas to help jw lurkers, talking their language. I am surprised I can still remember them but I can.

My August Update
by OnTheWayOut ini don't really have a purpose in this thread, but wanted to share my thoughts and updates.. fading has, at least for now, totally stabilized.
my jw wife doesn't discuss jw things and, as difficult for me as it is, i haven't been discussing anything directly against jw policy.
oh, i slip in comments when she tries to judge people or groups based on her jw training- things like gay marriage, medical marijuana, pedophile news stories.

Good news your wife came to a birthday party with you Onthewayout and she missed one day of the convention. You are so patient, I am very impressed.
