I've begun reading the Qur'an

Yes I read The Cow and The Women many years ago. Books of the Quran, surahs are they called? As I recall it sounded just like the Bible and women didn't come out of it very well. Although isn't there something about women having inheritance rights in Islam that they haven't had in Christian countries until recently? Can't remember exactly. There is no need for 'dislikes' I am just saying I have read the book. It's a book, ok! I see enough women with only their eyes showing and walking behind their husbands and their little sons in my UK Midland city to have no love for this religion.

Hi Alex_Am. You are in love with a beautiful person with a lovely personality. I can completely understand that. I am a mother of a twenty year old daughter whom I love with all my heart. My greatest wish has always been for her happiness. I naturally don't want her to suffer terrible emotional pain, but it is inevitable I'm afraid, that's human life. I have just tried to tell her everything I know about life and also teach her to think for herself so she can maximise the happiness and minimise the pain.

So that's why I worry about you Alex. I know breaking up with your girlfriend will cause you pain but it will cause you even worse pain to join this cult. It ruined my young life, I don't want it to ruin yours.

It's not just a normal religion, it's abusive and it damages people. It's a good sign your girlfriend is dating outside of the religion, but do her parents know? Are you just meeting at school? Does she strongly believe or does she talk about leaving?

I know it's hard but if you were my son I would say please don't cause yourself pain for many years to come by marrying in to this cult. If you then have children you will be trapped. An outsider with your whole family being indoctrinated and looking at you as a bad person unless you pretend to believe every word. You don't want to live like that do you? I would hate my daughter to live like that.

Hi FB and welcome. I have long passed the point where the question, what's the alternative has any meaning for me. Not sure it ever did. When I was a 'sister' I was obsessed with truth. I still am. There isn't an alternative to truth is there?

I hated the way JWs talked about scientists. They can do nothing right can they. It's like people building computers, finding medical cures and inventing labour saving devices are rubbish all because of the theory of evolution. I hated that attitude when I was in.

When I left I had to have a look at evolution to see why the WTS was so wound up about it and I found I had been lied to. For example there are far more fossils than just what would fit on a dining table. Remember that one?

Are they closer to the truth than most religions. If you're talking basic Christian belief in love and treating people well I would say they're far from the truth of that idea. They just don't understand unconditional love, they despise everyone who isn't a witness and they don't give to any charity or try and relieve suffering.

If you mean are they closer to what reality is, they take a two thousand year old book literally. That's just silly. They are just being ignorant and stubborn about how you study the past and how you try and understand the universe. We need to use all the information at our disposal in the world and learn as much as we can instead of rejecting information saying It's from Satan!

Just keep reading and don't be afraid of what you might find. You want to know what reality is don't you! I certainly do. It's never easy to leave that lovely world of hoping for a paradise where we will all have a beautiful house in a forest by a lake with a lion on the lawn. Be brave, is all I can say, the answers might be more amazing than you can even imagine in your wildest dreams.

Could trends and group think be evidence of a form of telepathy?

i was thinking the other day about trends.

think back over the decades and how generally the majority of people will feel or like or dislike the same things.

people comment how awful and ugly things that trended in the past were.

When testing has been carried out on telepathy and ESP, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, the results are very random and therefore difficult to quantify empirically. It reminds me of, I think it was Dawkins, talking about the evolution of the eye. He said that creationists mock and say what would be the use of having part of an eye. Dawkins explained being able to detect light and movement would be a huge advantage to a species starting to develop basic eyes.

I think it may be the same with telepathy and ESP, it's very random and hard to prove under laboratory conditions because it's only partially formed, still evolving. People who listen to their hunches and live more intuitively have an advantage over those that don't. Doesn't mean you don't use your rational brain but it just means you don't ignore the more unexplainable parts of our mind, hunches, intuition, feelings.

I don't think drugs are going to help your brain though EoM. Brain chemistry is extremely sensitive, I wouldn't advise playing around with it. Experimenting by listening to your intuition is much safer.

My 4 year old son starts asking about death

she can "offer" eternal life on earth, which is difficult to top.

first i told him, that there is actually no proof for what his mother tells him.

My daughter wanted to talk about death when she was three or four. I just remember telling her people go to sleep and don't wake up. I agree with you we don't have any proof what happens either way. She seemed ok with that one chat and didn't raise the subject again so maybe your son won't. I don't know what she believes now she's twenty but that's her business.

The next thing when he's about five will be questions about God. Fun isn't it 😄

another year, another year with no armageddon.. i have noticed the jw pals and family become more frenzied of late, small things in the news wind them up and make them more hysterical than ever.

the events in paris were horrendous, but to a jw they mean the end is near...........why wasn't it near when chechnya was in the shit?

i think a suggestion was made and if i could find the thread i would follow it but it may have been removed, i've gone back in 'forum related' topics several months.. i can see it's not just me that it happens to and i have been trying to ignore it because life is too short and all that.

i'm just starting to find it really annoying now.

How on earth do they reconcile this nonsense with the fact that there are women premiers of countries, women scientists, chief execs., lawyers, doctors, surgeons, college lecturers, explorers.....?

WTF! How does anyone swallow this crap. It doesn't make any sense when you live on a planet surrounded by thousands of women doings the above jobs. So they can run a company, a university, a science department and even a country but their brains are too small to be head of the house? Never, when I was in did I hear anyone trying to get away with saying illogical things like this. Women please wake up and get out of this cult that hates your gender!

Still feel weird about things....

so i'm loving the fact that my little one gets to be a "normal" child and take part in everything at school.

however i still have that stupid niggling in the back of my head that she shouldn't be doing it and it's wrong etc.

at the moment she is rehearsing for the nativity play and keeps singing the songs at home (she is going to be an angel!

I don't think you're lagging behind. We didn't do Christmas the first year we were out because we didn't want to feel we were swapping one lot of customs/beliefs for another lot.

But on the second Xmas when we had been out almost two years we did buy a tree and give each other cheap chocolate and second hand books because we didn't want to join in the ridiculous commercialisation.

Do it your way, whatever feels right. From then on we didn't get feelings of guilt about it so please don't worry that it takes decades, you're nearly there.
