Welcome AUOS. Emotional abuse of children, you're so right. It's taken so many of us years to recover from it. -

Waking up - introduction
by Dreamerdude ini am a male, born into the jw cult(ure), baptized as a teen, now mid fifties.
most of my life i dreamed of hugging pandas and lions, punctuated at times by nightmares of armageddon or jw drama and politics.
still going through the motions for still-in wife.

Another welcome from the UK here Dreamerdude. Thanks for letting us know that ridiculous tight pants talk woke you up. I have hope it's done the same for others. I'm glad the ARC made your wife want to stop contributing, that's a very good sign. -

Evolution is a Fact #36 - Mass Extinctions
by cofty in250 million years ago a plume of molten basalt gushed up from the earth's core.
it erupted in an area now known as the siberian traps - back then it was part of the supercontinent pangaea.
a curtain of lava a mile high and hundreds of miles long lit up the sky.

When you think humankind could become extinct through flooding and famine due to global warming; the antimicrobial resistance crisis or from a meteorite, beliefs of any kind all seem rather pointless. -

Why are witnesses all so highly stressed?
by stuckinarut2 inwitnesses are so anxious, stressed, highly strung..... so much for ones who are supposed to be "the happiest people"..... thoughts?.

We once had a CO visit and in one of his talks he asked what are priorities for true Christians and what are optional if we get time. Yeah one of those blackboard, line down the middle things. When he said recreation, is that a priority, no hands at all. Then I put mine up, I never could be a good quiet girl and STFU. How can recreation be optional!! No wonder they're all ill.

Faith, where now?
by Theburstbubble inso for the first time ever i went to a church service at my local church (coe) and i have to say it was awful!
it was just like a ritual.
the vicar would say something and then the congregation would all say a phrase in unison back to him.

But, I like the concept of God. I like the values of the bible. Yes, I understand it could all be a huge fairytale but so what if it is?
Hi the Burstbubble. I understand the need to have values and to live ethically. I also like the idea that there is something bigger than my tiny little life. Like you I couldn't find the answers in a church. The ritual left me cold and was a bit freaky and robotic.
I do think we need to find our own answers. Personally I don't want to go somewhere and be told they have all the answers. I just wouldn't trust that would you? Why don't you do your own research, just google whatever interests you or go to a library or bookshop and browse the religion, philosophy and science sections and whatever else you like.

It's so stressful going to a KH when you feel the people there are not on your side. You feel it's all smiling face at the front and knife behind the back. Added to that the constant busywork and no proper weekends to rest, people are just burnt out. -

Yes my pond is full of tadpoles, Half banana. I love rhubarb, thanks for the recipe, sounds delicious.
Yuck my cats catch mice and frogs but that's rather horrible.

Any thought behind your " Avatar"
by The Rebel ini think that's the correct phrase?
anyway when i first came here, that little picture that "the rebel" hides behind, was a self portrait of a very sad man, who simply had too much knowledge.
now i feel after 7 months here, i should repaint that " avetor" give some happiness to the eyes, and a contented smile to the lips.. in short my " avetor" was a self portrait of a man with too much knowledge.

Mine is a photo I took in Lake Como, Italy. A symbol if you like of my first independent step, a holiday on my own. Xanthippe was the wife of Socrates. I don't agree with everything Plato said but he was my introduction to philosophy.
I started reading Plato before I left the JWs. I learnt that the Greeks were trying to work out how to be a good person 500 years before Jesus and none of them claimed to be the son of God, they just used logic. I told my mother what I was reading. She was worried and thought it would take me out of the religion. She was right.

Beautiful photos Kaik. I love Lily Of the Valley. Not much happening here yet now my daffs have finished. We had hailstones the size of peas yesterday! My bluebells are out though. My cat thinks they're beautiful.
