i used to be a staunch believer in god.
maybe its technology and science advancing so much thats got me doubting idk.

I used to believe in God because I couldn't see how else we could have got here. Evolution has answered a lot of that question for me, but not all. How the universe exists I have no idea.
One thing I do believe is that no all-powerful being who loves us could have sat back and watched the terrible things that have been done in his name and not stopped them.
I have become sick of people telling me what's true and what isnt. Now I read, study and think for myself.

i speak semi-regularly to an old friend of mine who i would describe as a super-dub.. he knows i am inactive but over the years i have peppered him with a lot of questions about the org.
that i hoped would make him at least pause and think somewhat rationally about the reality of being a jw in this brave new- post gb 2.0 world.. we have discussed everything from the generation changes, to the u.n. , failed prophecy, flip flops, the reduction in size of the wt magazine, the closing/ consolidation of bethels including lay-offs, jw broadcasting, cart witnessing- etc, etc.. what do i mean by super-dub?

I suppose it depends how much you value facts and reality. Whether something is true or not doesn't seem to bother some people, look at gossip mags and websites. I can't believe the rubbish some people read online and when you say but how do know that's true they just shrug. So people stay in the religion because facts don't really matter to them, not questioning anything in their world in more comfortable.

They really believe it's all down to you, they haven't decided to do anything. You have caused this, they've done nothing. Like abusers who say you've made me hurt you, I'm afraid it's not entirely sane, to put it mildly. Sorry you lost your siblings in this horrible way.
hi all.. for many years now, i have been writing letters to bethel in new york and london.
i have also written to the charity commission, the bbc and more to highlight the harmful teachings and policies of the watchtower society.
i realise that some may view this as futile and understand why they might feel this way,; especially considering the pharisaical stonewall-like attitude displayed by the leadership of watchtower.. some reasons i do so is because i feel that constructive criticism is essential in helping to bring about change.
Trying to make positive change in the world is never futile. We have power, we should use it.
i would like to remind those folks younger than i that it was very few years ago when almost the entire planet earth was run by and for the benefit of men.women have throughout history been the property of men.due to religious restrictions, teachings, and fundamentalist doctrines, women in the largest societies on earth right now (muslim, chinese, n.korean) have almost no human rights at all.next year, in june, women will, for the 1st time, be allowed in arabia to drive---but--only if they are 30 years old or older, and for only a few hours per day!the old testament laws (read through them sometime) are horrifying reflective of prejudice toward gender, bodily cleanliness, guilt-tripping, and anonymity.

I think things have changed and I hope it will continue Longhairgal. Have you seen the film Suffragette? The credits at the end list the dates women were given the vote in each country and it made me feel proud of the women who led the way in the nineteenth century amidst imprissonment, torture, being shunned by society and having their children taken away from them.
I agree we've still got a long way to go and the glass ceiling remains in many industries. I can only cope by looking back and seeing how far we've come, it's too depressing otherwise.
