JWs don’t break up families

i get very angry when i hear this claim being made by jws and get even angrier when i read the article they have on their faq section on jw.org which i’ll leave a link here:.

i know that the majority of this article is written about having a spouse that isn’t a believer and how the bible encourages them to stay together but that’s one of the things that can cause division in a family, for an example if a son or daughter marry a nonbeliever or a worldly person the parents aren’t going to attend the wedding.. once i was told by an elder that if i continued with my behavior of wanting to seek worldly friends and worldly companionship that i would have to leave my home because the holy spirit would leave my house and that would have a huge impact on my family.

They don't see it like that. They think it's the people who realise it's a cult and leave who split up the family. As my family kept telling me I caused this 'difficult situation.' Also when people join the cult and their family are puzzled by this weird religion, it's their fault for not giving up Christmas and birthdays.

You occasionally meet people who have this personality type where they never accept responsibility for their actions, it's always someone else's fault. With JWs we have an entire region that does that, they are never weird, they haven't split up the family it's everyone else in the world that's at fault for not giving up their whole life to fit in with them.

The prayer switch

something that i have often thought about is how does god know when our thoughts go from normal thoughts to when we say a silent prayer?

does god listen to all of the thoughts of earth's 8,000,000,000 people 24/7 and when one person goes into prayer mode then god's ears perk up with an "incoming" alert?

then he has to decide if he answers the prayers to help a brother with cancer or just let the poor guy die.

It's exactly like in Bruce Almighty, God writes down everything people say on post-it notes then decides later which are prayers.

The Unforgivable Sin (LOL)

i remember my mother teaching me that a conscience was like an alarm in my head that would warn me when i'm on the verge of doing something immoral.

if i ignored the beeping, the batteries would run out.

i'd lose my moral compass.

Love garlic bread, yeah the unforgivable sin is going to Rome and eating garlic pizza bread while they have a convention in Sheffield or wherever. Then seeing the Colosseum, the Forum and having dinner by the Trevi fountain. Plus wondering through the Vatican and seeing the Sistine Chapel. Tried not to enjoy it but you know cute Italian waiters .....

My sister has a different view of shunning to my brother-in-law, but he doesn't know

my library has volunteers who run the local history department.

they put up an exhibition last month called women at war and they asked for photos of people in uniform who aided the war effort in wwll.

i offered a photo of my mother in her red cross nurse's uniform but then i couldn't find it so i had to write to my sister asking if she had it.. i addressed it to her and her husband explaining why i wanted it and just wrote as if this is family property and i needed it.

Thanks scratchme, none of us deserve it do we? Actually I feel a bit embarrassed going on about it after all this time. Normally I don't think about it but we lost my father-in-law, my daughter's beloved grandfather on Thursday and she was so upset. It just brought home to me how few relatives she has that's all. So many aunts, uncles and cousins she could have had.

Outside JW World They Barely Exist

is anyone else staggered by the fact that outside of the organization most of the general public seem to know very little or nothing about jw’s?

when i was in i was led to believe that 99% of the worlds population had been giving sufficient warning, knew what it was all about and were stubbornly sticking to their immoral ways.

the reality seems to be that the entire jw universe is barely noticeable to the masses.

JWs are a joke to the general population. Nutty people who knock at your door or stand in the street talking about the end of the world. They barely make a dent in the consciousness of the average person. Jokes about them on TV revolve around nuisance callers that you want to get rid of pronto.

I'd hate to see you miss an opportunity to keep in touch because you thought she was ignoring you. ( just sayin')
Thanks Pete I do appreciate it. Some people are just so screwed up by this cult it's hard to know what to do, you know? When I left I wrote to my sister and she didn't reply to several letters. Eventually I phoned her and asked her why she hadn't replied, she said it seemed like my letters were trying to get a reaction from her. What do you say to that? Eh yes they were, I would have liked a reply!
She said she was going to put the phone down and I started to cry. I said I don't think you'll ever phone me again. She said I will, you will just have to trust me.
Twelve years later I sent her a card because I heard she was seriously ill, she phoned and thanked me and soon after that it went back to 'normal'. Sorry Pete, I just don't understand people like this, it just doesn't compute.

it certainly has to be one of the most exciting times to live in as an awake ex witness!.

the wave of momentum we are part of as thousands awaken from the hold of the society is a joy to be a part of.

the internet helps us to see that we are not alone.

Yes Stuck it is exciting, especially when you've been waiitng for nearly thirty years. We got on with our lives because we'd already lost our youth to that religious cult. Until five years ago, although I did know about this forum I didn't look on it.

You get used to just ploughing on and we'd made a new life for ourselves. We were happy but it's been amazing to find hundreds of people on here, YouTube and other sites who've been though exactly the same things I have. It's helped me enormously. Now seeing this cult starting to shrink is very encouraging. It might be too late for my family but where there's life there's hope.
