Health - has anyone else suffered long lasting health effects from years with the Borg?
by Chariklo indoes anyone else feel or know that jehovah's witnesses damaged their health?.
i know many have emerged with depression, and i'm very relieved that i am not one of them.. but, being the age i am, (a large tribe of grandchildren) i was nonetheless pressured to go out door to door in steep countryside often in bad weather, and because i was doing my best to keep up that ended in an injury which has proved to be long lasting.. and that's not counting the stress-induced consequences...i won't cite them all here, but physical.
a few days in hospital and a summer spent on compulsory almost complete rest can all be laid at the watchtower's door.the trauma of actually extricating oneself from the borg is not stopped when one has finally written that letter that disassociates oneself from them.

Ok ethos:
Dear, the cult has prevented you from ever seeking any higher education, so let me explain a few things.
Classes and tests are not made of memorizing material and parroting it back. Unless you are going to become a doctor and then you damn well better know the names of all the bones of the body. Anatomy and physiology require huge amounts of memorization. Sit in on a college course and you will see it is nothing like a WT meeting, one of which has the arrogance to call itself a SCHOOL.
Actually, a good number of college classes require YOU to THINK FOR YOURSELF and make an original, coherent argument after analyzing material. The argument does not have to agree with the point of the view of the professor, or the text, so long as it is logical.
Even a college entrance exam has an essay component. These are Qualitative rather than Quantitive assessments, there is no right answer.
Also, attending any university is often a preparation to PRACTICE something- law, medicine, nursing, accounting, building etc. You have to learn the rules of your profession in order to practice it properly.
I understand how scientific knowledge progresses., do you understand how NEW LIGHT is updated.

Research is tested until it is invalidated by empirical evidence which is repeatable- transparent.
Academia is made of thousands of individuals pursuing all variety of interests, from social science to geophysicists.
They are accountable to department heads, deans, provosts, and presidents of the Universities.
8 men in Brooklyn who make this shit up are not accountable to anyone. They are considered absolute authorities only according to themselves and the fear of anyone who dares to question them.
Bottom line- you leave Harvard- your loss. No one will care, or think about you again, its your decision.
Leave the WT, you will be slandered and shunned, but free.

Luckily, since most schools are secular, no one has ever professed the rules to be anything other than man made.

the broadcaster was a four-page, second-class publication, that hoped to reach hundreds of thousands of persons through the mails.
later, this publication was discontinued, because so many failed to reach their destination.

Oh ethos, you have obviously NEVER been to Harvard to understand why your little analogy is so lame.
Unlike attending meetings of the wtbts, attending Harvard does not promise salvation and yet delivers more opportunities than you can imagine in your little JW bubble.
SCIENCE IS NOT RELIGION.

"They are MAD you know"
by Phizzy ini was reading a bigraphical book where the guy writing visits salt lake city, he knew nothing about the lds/mormon church.
he described the people waliking about like "something out of the stepford wives" he found it a bit weird from the get go.. he then did a bit of research and does a really good summation of exactly how looney the beliefs are, one bit i liked was that in his view there was a line of people going back to j.c that was 2000 years long, back to joseph smith, 150. as he said, which sounds the more plausible?.
what got to me though was a friend of his came to work with him, and had to take taxi to get to the place and was stuck in the taxi for five hours with a mormon driver, upon joining the author he said "they are f***ing mad you know, mormons".. my question is, as i have not spoken to any normal person about jw's who does not know i was once one, do the folks in the normal world who know a bit about jw's see them as effin mad ?.

No! there is too much religious tolerance in this country.
Maybe if they called the door to door work jihad- then people would notice.
