  If it turned out that JW's were right ...

  yes imagine if after all the struggle and effort to break fee of jehovahs witnesses it turnred out that they were right all along.. the governing body were getting messages from god and were being used by him , proof came out that evolution was false.they found noahs ark and ancient manuscrips were found that proved the bible true.. also lasurus was still alive and well living in siberia.. the next thing we know religon has been banned.. there are signs in the sky and strange phenomenon.. we look up and see the moon turned to blood and the sign of the son of man appears in the heavens.. next to him is a flying pig.. we realise pigs don't fly .. we wake up sweating.. it was all a dream.. releaved its all over we get up for a new day.. we open the curtains, allwe can see is fire and brimstone.. we hear screams of tourture.. satan laughs.

  If the wt was right, that means:

  Armageddon came before the last century ended (year 2000).
  Armageddon came in 1975 or 1976 at the latest, and we are now in the 1000 reign of jesus.
  Moses and the other ot bible guys have been roaming the earth since 1925. Exactly how old are they now? Have they started their own businesses? Are they living in israel? Have they joined the mossad?
  Armageddon came in 1919, 1918, 1917, 1914 etc.
  False religion has been destroyed about half a dozen times. It is doing quite well, considering all that destruction.

  Christians, be their very nature don't believe in freedom of religion. They would see that as satan running around, on the loose. We can't have that. They want satan and his spirit helpers bound. Many of them would like to see us burning. Does that make them S&M fans, at their core?

  Whence Baptism?

  have any of you researchedthe origins of the practice of baptism?

  as far as i can determine, there's no mention of it, much less as a requirement, in the torah or any of the old testament.. unless i'm missing something, it appears suddenly with john the baptist (oh, excuse me, wt lurkers, john the baptiser).. so then, if all of this is as it appears, then it's fair to conclude that the practice is of extra-biblical (as in ``pagan'' or ``heathen'') origins.

  if true, then we have a fascinating example of how john, then jesus, appropriated a pagan custom because of its suitability as a symbol; in this case, of dying to a former life course and awakening to another.

  Good thoughts. Another area where the cathiloc church could be exonerated, when one looks at ot, is infant baptism. As we know, infant baptism is supposed to save the baby's soul. The ot pracice of infant circumcision initiated the child into the yhwh covenant. Compared to this, rc infant christenings are nothing strange. They are even more egalitarian, as they include females, where as the jews only circumsized boys. Maybe being in an uncircumsized was the reason girls were treated just a bit better than livestock in the ot.

  Matthew Makes Another Error

  the 1 chronicles author lists the descendents of david; some of these, in order, are jehoshaphat, jehoram, ahaziah, joash, amaziah, azariah, jotham, ahaz, hezekiah, manasseh (1 chronicles 3:10-13 niv).

  the matthew author contradicts this genealogy; he leaves out the four consecutive descendents underlined above, and in their place puts uzziah, who he says is jehorams son.

  (matthew 1:8-10 niv).

  Very good analysis, and very true. What christians are unable to accept is that this also came about in the birth of their own movement. Consider, jesus the visionary. His jerusalamic movement was known as 'the way'. His followers didn't understand his message, but did their best to emulate him. Along came paul, 40 yrs later to form an organisation which was first called 'christian' in antioch, w rules to preserve it, and destroying the dream in the process. Long before the catholic church recieved the the new revelation, it had already been mostly lost.
