John Phillip Walker Lindh, aka "Abdul Hami...
by Nathan Natas inhis mother says he was "brainwashed," poor delicate child.
his father asks for mercy.. after all, he only volunteered to join the jihad to kill western infidels like his mom and dad.
he thought the events of september 11 were justified.. he wants to be a martyr for allah and enjoy his six dozen houris in paradise.. i'm undecided: should he be charged with treason and subjected to a jury trial, with the prospect of hanging if he's found guilty, or should his american citizenship simply be forever revoked so he can wander the sands of time as a man without a country?.

Valid thoughts. One could look at youths growing up. In whatever situation, neighborhood, mileu we are through the age 0 to say 15 yrs, we automatically absorb things like: the proper way to dress, to walk, to talk, the in music, what's cool/what's not. And this, practically without analysis. The affects of the ambience of the place where we grow up stays, maybe until our deaths, i don't know.
As we grow older, i believe we should question all our sacred cows. Are they divine, or do they go mooo?

Forgetting Lindh for a minute. Do you think the american media, with the amount of control and influence the govt has on it, is NOT using brainwash tactics on the public? Come on. They are probably the best brainwashers in the world. After all, they have one of the larger, most powerful masses of people to controll: the american public. Massaging public opinion is very important. Politicians know this better than anyone. It works the best when people can't sense it. One psychiatrist said that his patients were all in a permanent partially hypnotised state. All he claimed to be doing to cure them was to dehypnotise them.

Who has UNconditional love?
by patio34 ini have seen the term 'unconditional love' used often in reference to jws.
now, i understand the import: they love someone only on the condition that someone remains a jw "in good standing.
however, the term 'unconditional love' is proferred in a positive light.

It should be interesting to see what gets posted. I was going to say there was no such thing, but some claim they have it for their wives. Let me pose these questions. If your wives had an affair, or left youse (plural for you) would youse still love her unconditionally till the day you died? What if she murdered someone? Would youse stick w her through the trial, visit her in jail and wait for her to be released, to be reunited again? What if she swindled thousands of dollars from a a charity that needed the money to feed starving kids, or house battered women? What if she turned into a pathological liar or went insane? I'm not posing these questions to make fun of your love. Uncondition means absolute, without limit. Do you guys think there could be a limit for your spousal love? I'm also asking because god is supposed to BE the very essence of love. So much so, he could be said to love unconditionally, yet from hearing the christians on this board, his love may have more conditions on it than your loves for your spouses. I look forward to understanding this subject better.

Did he actually do a crime, or just think about doing a crime? If only thinking, should he be punished for his thoughts, even if they weren't his own?

Teacher Banned for Spilling the Beans on Santa...
by closer2fine inhttp://news.excite.com/news/r/011203/10/odd-santa-dc.
teacher banned for spilling the beans on santa.
canberra (reuters) - an australian primary school banned a teacher after she told a class of six year olds that santa claus does not exist.. angry parents from the corowa public school demanded action when some children arrived home in tears after a reserve teacher, on her first day on the job, told them their parents brought their presents.. "santa claus has always visited our house at christmas," mother vanessa lohse told the daily telegraph newspaper.. "my three kids (aged five, six, and eight) don't believe santa is real now -- it's really put a damper on christmas.".

What, is australia too far for santa? Or are australians just a bad group, so santa just crosses them all off? Maybe there is a lesson to be learned here, right bruce?

My dad's response to the 'Cow' article......
by LDH inearlier in isp's thread, someone posted a reprint of a 1952 wt article likening women to cows.. i cut and pasted the whole article to my dad as well as my sister and a jw friend who continues to talk to me despite my being labeled apostate.. i did not change any words, only highlighted or bolded the sentences that i thought were especially outrageous.. i sent the article under the 'guise' of a lighthearted joke to this sister, and telling her she needs to do her wifely duty and bear children to her husband.. a few minutes ago, i received this response from my dad.. lisa, .
i don't understand your purpose in sending me e-mails of a 40-year old article from the watchtower that i already have access to if i chose to spend the time to look it up.
i can sense from your "subject" and the high-lighted portions of the article that your intent was perhaps to riducule the counsel, especially the comparison of a young girl to a cow.

Funny how he at first took offence at the article, then used offensive cow references from the ot to make the wt look better. He shouldn't be offended at you, he should realize the offensive nature of the old testement. That 2500 yr old document is the source of much badness in the western world.

Friends we are too unbalanced.
by sleepy inwell sometimes we are.. look we have the knowledge and experience to help a lot of people.must of us have one time been jw's and understand how many think.so lets not put them off by being too negative.. when we were witnesses most of us were quite happy .
we tried to be good people , to put into practise principles that many people think are good.
we did this sometimes even when we didn't want to , because we thought god would hold us accountable and because we cared for people .

The wt would be better if they allowed people to leave it in an 'alive' state. For people who are at a level where they need the group support and can conform, it may do some good. If they allowed, or even encouraged people to move on after they had gained as much as possible, it would be better. One church i attended for a while was like this. The wt would need to get rid of their exclusivist doctrines. The way the wt is now, is like a prison.
