the only way we as humans can examine the universe is through our brains.. theres nothing we can do about it.
all senses and experiences are taken in by or bodies and interpreted in our minds.
we can not know of anything that our minds can't take in.. for example if we were all blind and no humans had eyes and the part of the brain that interprets vision we would have no concept of seeing or even the existence of light.. this creates a problem, how can we know whether things exist outside of our senses.

i've been a part of this forum for about one month, and during that time i've been struck by the willingness of many so former jehovah witnesses either to ridicule the bible, or to stand by while it's being ridiculed.
so, i'm wondering how many of them while witnesses suffered through experiences so searing that they no longer believe in the god of the old testament.. who among you still believe that underneath the layers of contradictions, inconsistencies, and errors in the bible there may be found the words of a god who created the universe, and who also cares about you, personally?.

How was mexico? What do you like most about it?
>The discussion was not about unconditional love. I never even mentioned the word. I also think it is a concept foreign to the Bible. God loves with an everlasting love and His love is unfailing, but never does the Bible say that God's love is unconditional.
I may have brought up the subject. However, since we agree that gods love is not unconditional, ie it is conditional, i rest my case and drop the subject. Talking about human love doesn't interest me, especially starting w an illustration that includes you killing me.
>Let's say that the disciples did believe in reincarnation, that is different however from the Bible teaching reincarnation.
Agreed. I was trying to show that the idea was floating around in society at the time and mentioned in the bible, not nessesarily taught.
>>You have the catholic church to thank for the absence of reincarnation in the christian corpus.
>Really!? What if you are looking at it the wrong way. What if the Bible never taught reincarnation and these false teachings were creeping into the church (which 26 of the 27 books of the NT warn about)
The catholic church decided which books should be kept out of the bible for the first time at the council of hippo, africa in 393. It kept out books, including those that taught reincarnation. I showed you that before the nicene council there were different strains of christianity, some of which believed in reincarnation and some christian books that taught it.

....so i said, 'sure, that's a possibility', and hung up.

When whatever happens, is finished, you can always threaten them with court if you hear that you are dfd. That has worked for some. They get left alone while not being categorized dfd and socially cut off. In dfing repercussions, the elders themselves are left holding the bag, not the wt. At least the wt is a lot harder to get at.

Good thoughts and questions sleepy
Studies have been done since the last 200 yrs. The problem is this field is subject to so much quakery and fakery. Another problem is that religion gets involved. Religion can attempt to force its dogmas on any results. Results can also be a threat to religion, and so it is much safer and easier to stop, discredit or condemn all inquiry.
Monroe institute has done some studies, setting them in a totally nonreligious background. See . http://www.monroeinstitute.org/ . http://www.afterlife-knowledge.com/
Instruments having the capability to measure spiritual phenomana would be nessesary. Spiritual instruments?? Anyway, i have a theory that the brain acts like a valve to regulate the input of reality. An example would be a perceptive person seeing and taking note of a lot more than a stressed preoccupied person. If this is true, then experiments where 'spititual' phenomena are elicited by stimulating certain parts of the brain are merely opening a gate to let that part of reality register in the conscioussness.
At present, it is accepted that the 5 senses we have can be generally trusted. In my opinion, i don't see why there may not be 6th, 7th or even other senses latent in our psyches, or to be developed in future generations.

That's pretty good. Theology in plain simple terms for kids. Don't need the books that some here post to explain it. SS
don't know if this has been touched on before, but where did evil originate?
yes, some may answer satan.
but think about this: god created all things, and god is perfect.
Good question. I would say evil is in the eye of the beholder, as is beauty. Christians will say god decides. But who has gotten inside gods head to see how he sees? Has anyone here met god, made his aquaintence personally, so to speak?

reading this speech certainly has changed my opinion of mj, and given me new insight into his life and perspective:.
michael jackson's oxford union speech.
march 6th 2001. thank you, thank you dear friends, from the bottom of my heart, for such a loving and spirited welcome, and thank you, mr president, for your kind invitation to me which i am so honoured to accept.
Enlightening and touching. I'm glad the kids of the world have him.
it looks like the wts finally put 2 and 2 together on the us branchs failing statistics over the past few years, particularly the years 97 - 01. what happened?.
in the latter part of 1996 cos instructed elders that congregation bookstudy conductors (soon to be officially called "congregation bookstudy overseers) should not initially ask congregation publishers for their field service time reports.
instead, each congregation should have a small box so that publishers could "shoulder their own responsibility by turning in time of their own accord," by voluntarily putting their report slip into this box.

If they put a wt mag in the coffin w a dead jw, they could keep counting him as a publisher a little longer.
did you know that our dna is 96% identical to that of our nearest primates?.
does this mean god created monkeys 96% in his image?.
but seriously, this has a lot to say about evolution.... why would god create us based on the genes of monkeys, especially if, as the witnesses declare, we were designed to live forever and monkeys were not?.
