Up till today i didn't notice or read your threads. I checked one today, and i was hooked. I read all seven.
I was a jw for 30 yrs, up to 1996, when they turfed me out, my only crime - asking questions. Anyway, i don't think you and you partner did anything wrong. I was cheering while i was reading. On the other hand, the wt is very powerful, and very concerned about its image. It has about 100 lawyers on hand in new york. I would suggest, from here on out, that you and your partner cover your butts. Make 3 copies of whatever and store in 3 separate safe places, minimum. Maybe i sound like a chicken shit, but sometimes rightness can be overridden. Jws are HAPPY to lie or sacrifice themselves in any way possible for the good of their org. Those elders that you posed your questions to probably feel and are treated like heros now. The guy who had the chest pains was probably happy at the thought of dying there in the confrontation, because it would have guaranteed his ticket to paradise. When i was a jw, i would have gladly taken a bullet for their interests. And one other thing, tell yardif to stop barking and chew his bone. ha ha Hear that friday?

How important is it to love someone in your life?

when i was a regular pioneer, i was constantly hearing that i should put off getting involved with any romantic relationships because i would want to spend all my time with my new love, and i would give up serving as a pioneer.. after i left the borgs cuckoos nest, i still had to put off getting romantically involved in long-term relationships because of wanting to be a full time college student.
later in life, i put off involvement again because of career options.

What is God?
by mindfield ini have yet to find a personal set of beliefs that will satisfy my mind, but one thing i am starting to get sure of is that there exists no "christian" god.
the reasons for that belief aren't many, but proof that god exists isn't that plentiful either.
i use the bible as proof god doesn't exist as it depicts it... others use it to prove he does, in fact, exist.

Of course, i can't prove god even exists. No one can prove it doesn't exist either. Decide for yourself w the evidence that is available. The mystics have some practices that lead one in the direction of experiencing god for oneself. But it's a long road. An atheist will tell a mystic that it is all imaginings in his head. God cannot be proved or disproved in a laboratory. So, again, even after the experience, one decides for oneself about this subject.
Where life originated from? If there is a god, probably from it, but who really knows how or when? If there is no god, ... i draw a total blank on the origin of life.
I suppose a logical next question would be: from where did god come? I have a theory that it is an evolving consciousness from a potential. Sort of the reverse of when say for instance a proton and antiproton meeting and anihalating each other. If i remember right the result is a flash of light. Tricky stuff. Old hindu philosophy tries to explain gods origin.
I have no fear for atheists, that a god might judge them harshly for not believing. God is way beyond that type of thing. In the afterlife (if there is one), atheists may do better than fundy christians.

ransom sacrifice question
by DIM inlast night in a very very heated conversation with my mother, i explained to her that the wts teaches that the great crowd (non annointed) only feel the affects of the ransom sacrifice but that jesus died for the annointed or something along those lines.
she didn't believe me (she's been a witness for 22 years) and i have no idea where this is explained in the old watchtowers or whatever.
any help would be appreciated!

In the new testement there is only one covenant open. It is based on jesus' death. People either go in by jesus (the gate), or go to hell. Actually, the word testement means covenant. That is what the nt is all about. The wt obscured this fact by renaming it the greek scriptures. Shame on them.
If one is not in the new covenant, biblically, one is without a contract w god/jesus. Imagine going to work for company without having a contract. And so, the wt comes under jesus' curse for shutting up the door to the kingdom.

I'm glad you brought this up. I have been wondering about this subject for weeks. During these non jw years, i have noticed that guys who spent a period of their life having sex w many different girls are now more tolerant, bigger hearted (should i say more 'loving' and being a real freind?) than the ridgidly moralistic types. I guess the question could be asked, were they sexually promiscuous because they were more loving to start w, or are they more loving as a result of giving/recieving love from different sexual partners.

A truly fine post! It just shows how the proclamation by jws like nytel and christians that mankind has an inbuilt conscience that tells him/her right from wrong is a crock of shit. This conscience can be molded to feel exactly opposite, based on its environment (time-the century one lives in and place).
