I heard a rumour that the UK HQ is moving from Mill Hill in London to a location in Essex near Chelmsford. Explanation being that it's closer to the transport networks. Anyone know anymore?

Do you make your own soup?
by compound complex ingreetings, soup lovers:.
i have a huge kitchen at my disposal (not my own); vegetables, cans of this and that and spices are scattered about, prepared to go into a cauldron of minestrone i started a few days ago.
i'm preparing ahead so as to freeze the leftovers to heat up later at home over my hotplate.. nothing like a 6-burner gas range to simmer over!.

Are you the huggy sort?
by Ucantnome ini don't really do hugs and kisses.
my wife went to hug me this morning and i instinctively backed away.
we laughed.

I never was a huggy sort until I left home. wasn't due to being a JW more to do with the area I was raised and my family background. I'm now definitely a hugger and much more demonstrative than I used to be. Hugs are good for your health

tijkmo - you made exactly the point that crossed my mind. This wider translation, using the word "homosexual" is much more ambiguous (and inaccurate - the word wasn't invented until a couple of hundred years ago) and opens the way to a lot more gay bashing. What exactly is a "homosexual act"? If I go out and buy a Wizard of Oz DVD, is that a homosexual act? If I go to the gay disco, is that a homosexual act?
All you closet homosexuals in the WT - get out! They don't love you except in a very patronising, "there, there" kind of way...

The new translation of John 17:3 seems like a major shift.
by paul from cleveland inup until now, everlasting life was dependent on "taking in knowledge".
it was a perfect fit for a publishing house to interpret that scripture that way.
if we didn't keep up with the endless stream of publications from the watchtower our salvation would be in jeopardy.

I'm gobsmacked at the introduction of "hell". That's a bit of a climb down isn't it! (sorry ignore this - I had the Byington translation up on the app!)

UK Elders. Recommendation Letters.. Freedom of Information Act.
by kramer infrom my experience, elders dont want to reveal the contents of a recommendation letter.
but as each congregation is a legally constituted charity and hence public body they are open to all the disclosure obligations of other public bodes.
do any uk elders or ex elders have any experience of people who demanded or wanted to see their recommendation letters, or who have gone through the process of a freedom of information request to get to see these?.

In the UK the Freedom of Information Act only relates to public authorities (i.e. tax-payer funded organisations). FOI does not apply to personal information.
I think maybe you're thinking of the data protection act 98. Under that Act anyone can request a copy of ALL their own personal information held by ANY organisation (not just public sector) except in very limited circumstances e.g. if the information would tip you off that you're about to be arrested for a crime. You just need to write a letter and request it (they have the right to chargeyou up to £10). It would be a criminal offence if they destroyed any information after you have requested it. It's possible that the letter of recommendation would fall under an odd exemption which relates to references (e.g. job references), which means the person who gave the reference doesn't need to disclose it but the person who received it must provide it. My gut feeling is that the elders are advised by the WT to destroy these kind of letters as soon as they have served their purpose.
