Headline: "Islamic Invasion: Europe now scrambles for guns." How true is this?
by cappytan ina year to a year and a half ago, i would have taken this article at face value and believed it.. now, i realize this article comes from a dubious source.
world news daily has a die-hard right-wing bias.
so, in an effort to get real information, i'm asking my european exjw's, is this article all true?

Prologos: Only criminals have to fear surveillance
I have heard this kind of argument so much, the "if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear" approach to the idea of surveillance. That's like saying "I don't care about free speech because I've got nothing to say". Sometimes we don't appreciate the value of something (like privacy) until it's gone...or until a less benevolent government is ruling over us that sees a lot of good use to make of all that surveillance data that was benign under the previous government...who's to say that just because something you're doing quite innocently now, won't be considered criminal in future?
Surveillance has it's place and is useful when used in a proportionate way, but please, no more of this "only criminals have to fear surveillance" reasoning. Unfortunately it's this view that is making us sleepwalk into a 1984 style surveillance society.
Ps -sorry for the slight diversion from the topic at hand. As you were (and good point, Username)

Suicide or Real Freedom? - My Story As One Of Jehovah's Witnesses
by dubstepped in"sometimes i think the only thing i could do that wouldn't upset someone would be to kill myself.".
those were the frustrated words of my friend as we stood out in his large yard in the country, just about to enjoy a nice bonfire on a beautiful night.
what was it that could have been a lesser evil than killing himself?

Hey Hollywood, so sorry to read your story. But remember it ain't over until the fat lady sings.
As for living your life the way your mother wants you to, Oscar Wilde once said "selfishness is not living life the way we please, but expecting others to live their lives the way we please".
Live your life be free. Don't deprive the world of your talent. Any musician will tell you, music isn't what you do, it's who you are. Don't wait until it's too late, like I did.

@Simon: so true. If anyone admits reading the daily mail, it's usually with a guilty smile and a wink. -

I understand why you're concerned for your family, Macys. There is it seems a huge problem in Sweden and some other countries with the way immigration has been managed. But the problems go way before the current influx from the Middle East so it is not factual when right wing press or political parties use suspect scare-mongering stories to generate fear and prejudice about people coming from those countries now.
The way I see it is this (just as an example): The power vacuum in Libya, leading to the emergence of ISIS and other competing factions in that country are directly attributable to the West's manipulating events to get rid of Gadaffi. So if people are now fleeing the dreadful conditions our governments helped create, we can't just run away - we have a responsibility to help. Any danger from a trojan horse strategy is of our doing. It goes against all moral reasoning to create a mess and just leave ordinary people to cope with the carnage that now exists as a direct result of actions we carried out. The emergence of ISIS itself is said to be largely down to the tactics used in Iraq by the US and its allies.
Mass immigration is not a new problem. And a fearful reaction is nothing new either. For example, in the early years of the 20th Century and by 1920, around 3 million Jews had travelled to America to flee the pogroms in Russia and the anti-semitic treatment they received in other parts of Europe. The US press blamed the Jews for all sorts of things including the Great Depression.
Time will tell if the fears about ISIS terrorists sneaking in to Europe are well founded. But unfortunately it's a mess we created ourselves to protect our own interests and way of life. Don't get me wrong - I have fears about this too. But that doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of these poor people are completely innocent and are in this position largely because of the actions of our governments. This is why I wrote that we made our bed so we have to lie in it.

What strikes me about this thread and particularly those posts that are saying the report is accurate, is that everything is hearsay. "I have heard" this or that. Evidential references to non-extreme right wing sources might make the story more credible.
i live in London and, yes, there was a "sharia law London" sensationalist story around the time that UKIP were campaigning for support but surprise surprise those stories have disappeared. And it was nothing to do with this refugee crisis.
I'm sure there are problems and tensions in some areas. There are bound to be. These people have fled horrific situations and are probably very disturbed. I haven't heard of a rush to buy guns to defend ourselves. But that's not to say it doesn't happen in some places and probably says more about the way the situation is being managed than anything else.
And to those saying we should mind our own business and let the Middle East countries sort out their own problems, I'm afraid that door closed a long time ago. Arguably we would not be having this very crisis if we had kept our noses out of other countries control of their own oil supplies and hadn't tried to topple dictators under the guise of "doing the right thing" but really for our own interests.
We in the west did a lot to create the current problems that these people are fleeing. Yes I'm sure Isis will use the situation to infiltrate but our leaders made our bed and so we have to lie in it unfortunately.
