episode 8 - get out of her, my people - it all came tumbling down, is now out.

this is a long one and the next to last in my story.

there comes a point in life when you know too much to ever go back to the person you once were, or to the cult that you once called home.

Loved it! I especially felt your relief at leaving the convention. We did that, too. My super theocratic sister and her elder husband don't talk to us because we are not good enough. We saw them at the circuit assembly and I'd just had a baby, I thought she might want to see him. They were so horrible to me, refused to speak and didn't want to see the baby, that my husband scooped up our kids and said we're leaving. Walking out of the assembly hall and driving home was the best feeling...so I felt you and your wife's relief.

BTW. Having listened to you for hours now, I was compelled to see a proper photo of you and you wife, so I found you on Facebook :)

JWs shunning other active JWs

how many others have noticed how common it is for active jws to ostracize and shun other active jws?

as far back as i can recall, jws have had an ongoing problem with cliques within congregations, and special needs talks would be given from time to time to address that trend.

but, it seems to me that the practice has become even more pronounced with entire congregations actively shunning other congregations.

For years my husband could never understand why brothers and sisters he bumped into ignored him. He left the truth because he was a burnt out MS/Pioneer. He hadn't done anything wrong, he was just plain exhausted mentally and physically and couldn't do it anymore. He was never DF and he never DA.

It's only just now the penny has dropped that they were deliberately shunning him and still do.

He's had brothers look at him and turn their backs. It really used to upset him.

i work in the city, the liverpool convention is this weekend.

what better way to spend my lunch hour than pop over to the liverpool echo arena and see my daughter.

im in jeans, tshirt, adidas tracksuit jacket and worldly beard.

That's my congregation's convention.

I also have sister there. She hasn't spoken to me since 1991...wouldn't even talk to me at our dad's funeral.

Apparently, I'm not good enough to be a JW unlike her who thinks she sits on God's right hand. So if you see a woman in her early 60s with a halo around her head, say hi from me!

i was wondering if someone could help me with a question.. i am a rookie exjw, i only left the organization 4 months ago and everything i've discovered (un/arc/malawi/mexico etc) i've only discovered in the last few months so you can image it's been a huge shock to me especially after after 50 yrs!.

every time i think i've heard everything, something else pops up.. now i've come across a youtube video that mention tv evangelizer jimmy swaggart and the watchtower.

i remember jimmy swaggart from the time i lived in the u.s.a and i remember the scandals with him and prostitutes etc.

Sure wish the elders had told me. I did not know about it. Have they always had that? In 1987 I was in the high court in London fighting for my two eldest kids.

It doesn't matter who is right or wrong. The point is, once again they couldn't be upfront and honest about it. So, we all thought this was God's direction.A loving arrangement to simplify things and get that all important message into people's hands.

The Watchtower should know 'Transparency breeds trust and trust breeds good team work'

This is a secret society, with secret letters and secret books and I like, millions of others, went along with everything, trusting every word they said, thinking it was Jehovah God's direction.

If you continue to watch Jason Zelda's video, you learn about the child custody book. I went through a custody battle and no one told me there was a child custody book!

So what else don't I know???

So true. I think most bros were totally hoodwinked by that whole 'donation' thing. Even the other day I actually said to my friend that if these are supposed to be God's people he will bring the child abuse thing out into the open and fix it, just like he did when they were peddling the word and making a shed load of money from the literature. (Oh, what a stupid thing for me to say!!!)

No point in me trying to tell her about this. She only started to believe me about the child abuse problem when she saw it on the BBC. Seems in the UK if it's on the BBC..then people will believe it.

Yes, that's the video I watched.

All I'm saying is...if we even so much as went to a jumble sale (boot sale) in a church hall we were for the high jump and yet they can seemingly support a member of Christendom??

The sad thing is if I told my friends JWs this...they wouldn't believe it. They don't believe anything you tell them.

well, we generally didn't outright ask...well yes, some people did. Householders might say how much and we'd ask for a donation but I could never bring myself to say anything, I felt embarrassed. But yes, I went on the ministry with some people who would outright ask for a donation. 'We're offering these magazines freely, but if you'd like to make a donation' that sort of thing.
