That's my congregation's convention.
I also have sister there. She hasn't spoken to me since 1991...wouldn't even talk to me at our dad's funeral.
Apparently, I'm not good enough to be a JW unlike her who thinks she sits on God's right hand. So if you see a woman in her early 60s with a halo around her head, say hi from me!

It doesn't matter who is right or wrong. The point is, once again they couldn't be upfront and honest about it. So, we all thought this was God's direction.A loving arrangement to simplify things and get that all important message into people's hands.

This is a secret society, with secret letters and secret books and I like, millions of others, went along with everything, trusting every word they said, thinking it was Jehovah God's direction.
If you continue to watch Jason Zelda's video, you learn about the child custody book. I went through a custody battle and no one told me there was a child custody book!

So true. I think most bros were totally hoodwinked by that whole 'donation' thing. Even the other day I actually said to my friend that if these are supposed to be God's people he will bring the child abuse thing out into the open and fix it, just like he did when they were peddling the word and making a shed load of money from the literature. (Oh, what a stupid thing for me to say!!!)
No point in me trying to tell her about this. She only started to believe me about the child abuse problem when she saw it on the BBC. Seems in the UK if it's on the BBC..then people will believe it.

All I'm saying is...if we even so much as went to a jumble sale (boot sale) in a church hall we were for the high jump and yet they can seemingly support a member of Christendom??

well, we generally didn't outright ask...well yes, some people did. Householders might say how much and we'd ask for a donation but I could never bring myself to say anything, I felt embarrassed. But yes, I went on the ministry with some people who would outright ask for a donation. 'We're offering these magazines freely, but if you'd like to make a donation' that sort of thing.

I was in the U.K. so we asked for donations. I never liked to ask so I just gave the magazines to people :)

Thank you both so much. I had absolutely no idea. I and everyone I knew, truly believed it was something directed by Jehovah. Whether it was to get the literature (and therefore the message) into people's hands or as you said above to simplify the work, we all believed it was God behind it.

i heard it in a Jason Zelda video shared by Mikey and Kim.
Not only about Jimmy Swaggart but he also spoke of the secret book about child custody cases and a clip of an elder actually lying about that in court.
I'm only half way through this video and I'm floored already!
