Or perhaps someone could make this comment, "We see that what this brother endured was 68 years ago, Today we see the same type of penalties imposed on brothers who may choose to grow a short well trimmed beard, even though there is NO bible proof that it is wrong they will loose most if not all privileges as a result of growing one when they are told they cannot have one by appointed men."

I wish I were still allowed to comment, I would say, "We see from the paragraph that this brother and his intended knew that the edict not to marry was against what the bible said, so they defied the organization and paid the penalty for following God rather than men. We must follow the words of Acts 5: 29 also, even IF it goes against those who are in appointed positions, if we do not want to make god sad."

Restrictions
by snugglebunny inwhat kind of restrictions are people put under when their behaviour has been considered worthy of disfellowshipping but have managed to avoid the big "d"?.
me (going back a bit):.
1. never to be in the company of the lady unchaperoned although we were "betrothed".. 2. removed from ministerial servants position.. 3. not allowed to pray in the congregation at all, including book study.. 4. removed as watchtower study conductor.. 5. removed as public speaker and talks at service meetings.. 6. removed as pioneer.. 7. report to po once a month.. amazingly, i missed none of those things and relished the freedom from responsibility.

They told me i should be "reaching out".
I had the same experience. Had all "privileges" removed when I grew my close trimmed beard. I had facial skin cancer at the time. When they loaded me down again I declined to fulfill the duties they tried to force on me and I got the "you should be reaching out" crap. I asked them to show me where in the bible it said I had to reach out. They of course flipped to 1 Tim. 3: 1. I asked what part of "IF" was a command. Of course they had n answer to that!
So at present I do not get to comment anymore, do not get to say prayers anymore, do not get to read at the book and WT studies anymore. I do get stuck on the list to pay for the Sunday speakers dinner though. I decline that. I do get to be put on the list for cleaning the toilets. I refuse. I do get hit up for money to pay for all the latest "wants" of the eldurrs. I firmly say "NO" to those. When the last of my still in elderly family (only one left) goes then so do I!

Day One Lowlights

in no particular time sequence here is some of what i managed to hold down.. tight pants yapped on in the opening part about a three part theme to conventions.
part 1 was in 2016, part 2 is this year, and part 3 is in the works for 2018. i guess the big a isn't coming for a couple more years, at least.. then it was really stressed that all good dubs must always be prepared to "witness" by carrying jay double you, dot org calling cards, and of course wear your id card for the convention at all times, and all places.. next was the strong statement that the purpose of the carts/trolleys is not to place literature, it is to direct people of the public to "our" web site!

Day 3
A little late... several things from memory.
God doesn't make a multitude of rules! Jesus only made TWO rules. Now why would the governing body think they should do something that neither God or Jesus did?
607 BCE and 1914 are ESTABLISHED FACT! They CANNOT be changed! This was said with some of the most forceful emphasis of the whole dog and pony show. Seems to me I remember reading those same type of words said by CTR over 100 years ago, and he was wrong...too.
There were 22 baptized. Attendance of an average of 3,400. All obviously born-ins, and the youngest a disgusting, tiny, 10 years old!
Last part it was hammered on how the "new improved" understanding of what a generation is proves that Armageddon is just around the corner...soon...very soon.
I also enjoyed another chance to use someones handy dandy tablet to have them personally compare what the WT used to say about those of the generation by no means passing away BEFORE all the things Jesus foretold happened with what the last speaker said. The last of the claimed 144,000 would be called to heaven BEFORE the foretold events all came to completion, claiming that is another proof of how close Armageddon is.
A personal observation was that this regional convention was one of the most dreary, depressing, negative ones I have ever been to. So much was said, over and over and over again about terminal illness, debilitating depression, money woes, physical infirmities, everything that could make a person hate life was what they put out there as the true JDubs lot in life, but don't worry folks..."soon" all that will go away...if you DON'T GIVE UP! (BTW, please drop in your money or swipe your card at the ATM on the way out tonight)
Thank gawd it is done for another year! I only hope my 86 year old dad doesn't want to put up with the crowds again.

Day 2
Hammered on people having feelings of being worthless. Now I wonder where any JDub would get the idea they were worthless, hmm?
Stressed how important it is to give materially to any in the congregation who are facing money shortage. Now I wonder again, why would JDubs be broke on all those part-time, low wage jobs they seem to gravitate to?
Brought out that the BEST way to help people is "read the scriptures to them."
Then asked, seriously, "Would you want to make Jehovah sad by encouraging your children to be financially secure, instead of spiritually secure?"
Then something was said that pretty well blew me away. "The best way to protect our children form sexual predators is to teach them from a VERY YOUNG AGE, about sex."
Mentioned again that whatever you do in this world is doomed to failure. Now lets see that ought to give everyone positive self-esteem and not make them feel worthless.
I was surprised by the many numbers of times they kept referring to feeling fearful because of facing life ending illness. Pretty encouraging to someone I guess...
One more day to suffer through....

Talk to my Dad about beards.
by LovingLifeNow inso i spoke to my elder dad the other day, and he asked if i still am sporting a beard.
i said yes, then i said, "i thought the society said its ok to have a neat trimmed beard now?
" he said "no, no, no..if you read the article , it says in countries where it is accepted" so my response was "ummm, its pretty accepted here in america"..which he says "it reflects your spirituality" "if another wittness saw you, they would know you are weak"...i was like, "ok, i don't get it, and i follow christ/god, not men..." then he said in his hall" if a brother came in with a beard , he would not have privelages" then i just gave up, and tried to change the subject..ugggggggggg if these people would just listen to themselves , they would see the sillyness of there teachings...

Then it was really stressed that all good Dubs must always be prepared to "witness" by carrying Jay Double You, Dot Org calling cards, and of course wear your ID card for the convention at all times, and all places.
Next was the strong statement that the purpose of the carts/trolleys is NOT to place literature, it is to direct people of the public to "our" web site! This was said more than once, for emphasis. And also stated that it is more fun to let people come to you than going to them. Hmm...what was that that Jesus said? Something about "GO"? I guess their word is more important that Christs!
Then there was a scripture read from Exodus 5: 9 where Pharaoh wanted the Jews kept busy so they would not pay attention to lies. I wonder if THAT is why the governing body insists on keeping the good JDubs so busy with "busy" work. They are afraid if the JDubs are not insanely busy they might wake up and discern the lies they are being fed?
Then there was the goofy illustration of a swimmer trying to get to shore. The question was would they give up only a few yards from shore? They were just about there. They would be on shore..."soon"... I thought WTF? No they wouldn't give up, but what if every time they thought they were just about safely to shore the shoreline was moved back a few hundred more yards?
Then there was another hair-brained illustration about running a race in the Death Valley area of the United States. 14,000 feet elevation change, 116 degree heat. What if you knew you were no good at running that elevation or that heat? Well of course you would run harder so that it would get easier! Good grief, if I were no good running in that heat or elevation changes I would not do it. That would be insane health risks or even death from heat stroke. I guess nothing is ever good enough for those fat slobs tossing out orders to the R&F.
That was about all I could stomach. I did get the chance though to read a direct quote from the KM to a friend about those who were praised for selling out their homes etc. in anticipation of 1975, right after I asked if the person I was talking to had heard the video say that it was WRONG of "some" to have sold their homes before 1975. They got a deer in the headlights look when they realized their own answer and the WT own words contradicted what they had just heard. It was wonderful!
Perhaps a few more comments or observations over the next two days, IF I can keep my breakfast and lunch down listening to this stuff.
