Coded-Logic: I also feel it depends on your definition of abortion. I don’t feel the same way about a Plan B pill as I do of an abortion at 20 weeks.

by minimus inif everything is supposed to be about the lives of children, how can they hypocritically fight to take babies and kill them?
what about the children and their quality of life?.

Cults in our Midst
by Lee Elder inthis is related to a comment i made in a previous thread.
cults exist in many diverse parts of society.
this includes politics.

There is a little room for moderates in the Democratic party, and almost no room for moderates in the Republican party.
That is a gross and naive misrepresentation. Trump is not a moderate, at least on the surface. The policies he’s put forth, though, have been somewhat moderate. However, the only moderates in real life that I know are republican or are starting to lean republican.
My views are best represented by the libertarian left. But there’s no representation in the Democratic Party for any kind of fiscal libertarianism. Now, the republicans are starting to adopt a more laissez faire position to social issues.
I can have a rational discussion with conservatives about gay rights and my stance on adopting a less interventionist military policy.
However, no one that is on the left in my circle of friends can have a rational discussion about Trump’s tax bill, strict immigration enforcement, or gun rights.
Every conservative friend I have supports the rights of gays to get married. Some of them are even atheist.
No Democrat friend I have supports an artists right to turn down a custom job that offends his conscience when that artist happens to be Christian and White.
I find conservatives more open to discussing ideas and less likely to take offense if you have a different point of view.
You really need to sit down and try to have a friendly chat with a republican, Lee.

According to Professor Lalich (Professor Emerita of Sociology at Pacific Standard), cults consider their ideology the "one true path", and share four characteristics:
They 1) espouse an all-encompassing belief system; 2) exhibit excessive devotion to the leaders; 3) avoid criticism of the group and its leaders; and 4) feel disdain for non-members.
It's not coincidental that this sounds like both Jehovah's Witnesses and members of the modern-day political left. Like the JW's, they have to meet regularly with their followers to rally and demonstrate against the latest outrage du jour handed down to them by their leaders. They feel like they are a "special group" of people following a very "righteous cause."
Like the Watchtower, they create common enemies, and try to separate their true followers from the rest of the "deplorables." Only they have the answers and can fix the problems. Anyone not buying the anti-Trump narrative are "apostates" for drawing attention to the media's obvious, blatant lies. They seek to brand them as "Nazis" or "racists" to shut down the flow of information that can discredit their leftist ideology.
Instead of breaking up families of members like the Watchtower, the left broke up families of immigrants under the leadership of Obama. However, quite literally, there are actual families where rational discussion of politics is becoming impossible due to the extreme "all or nothing" brand of Leftist ideology.
Cult-like supporters of the Left will eventually become disillusioned, and look for some other all-encompassing truth or charismatic cause to chase after. Video worth a watch:

It’s a good point. Anecdotal vs scientific evidence: anyone who’s been to “uni” should know the difference. An anecdotal clip between two people doesn’t represent a large cross section of voters, just as THIS clip of very clueless [democrats] doesn’t (I hope) necessarily represent the majority of them. If it does, then we’re all fucked.

I’m an exjw and hate the organization, but that video you shared of JWFairyTale pissed me off. I don’t blame the guy that wanting to fight him.
Violence isn’t the answer, but someone like that deserves a good ass kicking.

I’m in favor of Plan B pills.
But anytime there’s a body that has to be taken out, it’s extremely disturbing to me.
I’m morally opposed to abortions after the point of where a Plan B pill won’t work.
But do I want the government legislating morals? Not really.

Separating children at the border....
by mikeflood ini mean, the law about separating children from their fathers crossing southern us border have been in the books since before obama's era.
the thing is that enforcing that law it has become a public relations disaster for the trump administration.
there's also to much animosity in latin america too, remember the classic agitator "u.s. is the evil empire that treat us badly just to see always their own interests".

Flipper: I support Trump when I agree with him. I don’t always agree with him, but I do on lots of issues.
Can you explain to me how he is being dominating, controlling and uncaring towards me personally? Because that’s what the governing body does to their “followers.” How is Trump doing that to me, someone you would probably classify as a “follower”?

No, Trump's an absolute failure as a president. Peace out, Mr. Flipper
Absolute failure?
Words have meanings, Flipper. Stop guzzling the absolutism kool-aid.
Here are four things he succeeded at that I'm happy with.
1: Tax-cut bill
- I know how much leftists like you love taking people's money away from them, but Taxation is Theft, and letting me keep more of my own hard-earned money has improved my family life for the better. You probably haven't experienced the benefits of this bill, though, because you live in tax-happy California.
2. Revoked the Individual Mandate of the ACA
- I pay for health insurance for my family because it's what I should do. However, I don't want the federal government by law requiring me to pay a private company money. It sets a bad precedent for control of individual finances.
3. The Economy
- Consumer confidence at 17-year high, more than 2 million jobs created, mortgage applications for new homes rise to a 7-year high, unemployment rate at 17-year low, signed the Promoting Women In Entrepreneurship Act, investment in America's economy from major businesses (FoxConn, Toyota, Ford and others)
4. First President in office to publicly say he would support legislation for the decriminalization of Marijuana.
- I'm 100% on his side for this, although I eventually want it legalized for recreational use.
----
Now, whether you like these things he's done or not, you can't say he's an "absolute failure" as these things were part of the platform he was elected on. He's been successful in making headway on his agenda.
Now, if your measure of success is "does everything I want and does nothing I disagree with", then there's no helping you.
There are things Trump has done that I disagree with. I don't like his Twitter personality (although it is entertaining to see people get so triggered by it). Though I think we need to be tough on trade, I don't like him negotiating tariffs in the public eye. That approach should only be a last resort. I want him to be tougher on Human Rights issues with our allies and enemies. The most I've seen him do is condemn Syria and Iran. He needs to also condemn Saudi Arabia and China.
----
I don't have Trump Derangement Syndrome...I don't have Social Media (deleted all my accounts) so I don't get worked up through a feedback loop of an echo chamber. I call Trump out when I feel he's wrong (Syria Strikes).
I would love to vote for a more classically liberal candidate in 2020, however the only front-runners the Democrats seem to be promoting are far-left idealogues that promote Marxist ideology.
If my choices are between Trump and a far-left Marxist like Kamala Harris, I'm voting for Trump again. At least he's in favor of the individual over the collective.
