Exactly Macys, once I realized that holy spirit was just a bunch of old guys unanimously making a decision I was over it lol. I remember telling my family that I wasn't going to do anything JW related when I was dissed just to see if holy spirit was going to let me back in. Sure enough they let me back in and the scales fell from my eyes. -

@ Macys, lets see if holy spirit will weed you out, I hear its a great judge of character and can help elders know if you're truly repentant and ready to come back to Jehovah. Lmao. -

FreeMindFade- I agree, my generation definitely values their social circle way more and even though most of them secretly do things their told they aren't supposed to do, they still believe and fear being dissed ( disfellowshipped). Some one said this on reddit, but the orginization's whole ideology and its delivery is so different now. When I was younger it did seem more serious, I think someone even used the term dignified. Despite being a cult the Gen X witnesses always seemed like real bible scholars. As a young child I remember reading some of the older books and thinking " this is some deep stuff" as I looked at the illustration of a 7 headed dragon being hurled down to the earth. But then I would think, Why hurl him down to EARTH??
OneEyedJoe- "The obsessive disproving of doctrine and unraveling of all the deceptions and history of the cult may, in some ways, be somewhat specific to the older crowd that took things more seriously while they were in the cult. "
This is so true, I mean aside from cognitive dissonance MOST people don't even care about the Orgs history. As much as emphasis that's put on origins of holidays why wouldn't the very origin of the organization be just as important?
I had always assumed something was fishy about the religion but once I found Russell's grave I went on a research binge that had me sick for a good couple weeks.
My family encouraged me to research and do what I needed to strengthen my faith but refused to acknowledge or give a second thought to what I had found. It was so frustrating. Only later did I realize that wasn't the best way to share what I had found.
I don't know though, I actually think finding the various ex forums is useful. Once you know its a cult in your own mind your set, but once you see that others are asking the same questions and going through similar stuff its somewhat comforting.
you exhale and can say "okay I'm not going crazy" lol

@FreeMindFade- I see what you mean and agree with everything you've said. I've noticed way more Gen Xer's and that's what prompted my topic in the first place. I would assume my generation (millennials) would be more prone to waking up but sadly I don't see many or they rather lurk at the moment.
I'm assuming most millennials are just beginning to stand on their own, become self sufficient from parents and their able to part ways completely with the cult. I hope that as times goes on more people can put fear aside and become more vocal like Generation X.
I wanted to actually start a youtube channel just to tell my own story and show people that they can do this and be successful. Maybe my enthusiasm is a tad misplaced but I honestly feel the need to at least let people know that hey look people in your generation are doing this and so can you. Things can get better even If you lose family, which I have
@QMI- the reddit page is pretty good as well, check it out

Has anyone seen "The Prodigal Son Returns" on JW.TV? A Masterpiece of indoctrination
by truthseeker ini'm watching the jw movie the prodigal son returns.. it is a masterpiece of indoctination and what i would call a "cult" classic.. it's about two brothers who work for their father's construction firm.
the older one is the most spiritual and the younger one isn't.
he befriends al, a weak brother, who persuades him to take a job in the city and move there.. it shows the "world" in the worst possible light.

This video was just to funny to me, granted all jw movies always made me laugh when I wasn't supposed to, but this one is by far one of the worst/funniest. Like everyone has said, the younger brother bit off more than he could chew. Obviously everything was going to fall apart in no time. When he ran out the house crying, after "fornicating" I guess, it was over for me LOL. All I could think of was how Id still be in that apartment showing my okay looking co-worker some deep appreciation for giving me shelter in the rain. Wine and a warm bed when you're basically homeless??? he was unappreciative lol
When I think about the prodigal son story and how its supposed to be a beacon of hope for parents who's kids have left the org I actually think of my self somewhat. My parents realized that college doesn't guarantee anything BUT its better to have a degree than not in this modern age where even a Masters is becoming the standard for job requirements. My parents were still mad as hell that I decided to leave the org and was able to move out, get an apartment and handle my business successfully.
To this day my mother is waiting for the moment when I come crawling back for help. Its like they want us to fail so they can say " we told you". Its almost like JW parents want their kids to have to lean on them.
I've always truly felt that the most of my male jw peers were mentally still teenagers and that's exactly how both brothers came off in this video.

Finally posting and I'm FRUSTRATED!!!
by stephanie61092 inokay, i'm about to engage in a major word vomit.
just giving you fair warning as your time may be better spent somewhere else.. so, i'm sitting on my lunch break, bawling my eyes out, and writing on this forum to people i don't know yet probably have a great deal in common with but at the same time, used to scare the daylights out of me.
for years, i would come across this forum and 'lurk' awhile if you will, or see things on youtube.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone
@Disrousofchange- I know exactly where your coming from. Initially I looked at it as playing by their rules to. But after I thought about it, I couldn't stand the fact that my name would still be associated with the cult in any way shape or form. It became a final formality to me. Something that's actually giving me my own closure from the cult in its entirety.
fading just recently began to seem like a temporary solution to me. I need more than an ambiguous state of being ( if that makes sense)
I'm either a witness or I'm not.
I am not, that's not who I identify as and don't want any to to make the mistake and assume I am.
me labeling my letter resignation instead of disassociation is my own middle finger up as I walk out the door lol.
But as you said "to each their own"
as long as we are out of the cult that's all that really matters.

Hey Stephanie , I read your post and it made me want to stop lurking and finally make an account.
I wrote this list last night but after reading your story I figured I'd post it here as well.
these are some things that help me cope with leaving the cult.
1.Realize that you CAN & WILL overcome the emotional distress you may initially feel upon learning the real truth
2.Come to terms with the fact that you may lose family and “friends”, this comes with the territory of knowing it’s a cult and ultimately wanting to leave.
3.Don’t try to forcefully wake family members from their cult indoctrination . As hard as it is, you have to realize the org is where they are comfortable and as much as you’d like to save them, they have to ultimately save themselves. Like that old saying “ you can take a horse to water but you can’t make them drink”.
4. Realize that it makes no sense stressing about things that are out of your control. You have to focus on YOURSELF and establishing your future. Finding out who you truly are and what you want to be.
5 Enjoy each day as much as you can. This reminds me of that quote from Troy were Brad Pitt says “The gods envy us. They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.”
I use the quote loosely but hopefully you get my drift.Enjoy THIS life and make the most of it.
These are my opinions but hopefully they help a little.
I went from trying to compromise with family by fading to typing my "resignation"letter as I sit in my office today. ( I refuse to willingly use the word disassociate regardless if that's what they require or not)
you will get pass this obstacle and your life will be better than what you expected.
Stay Strong✊🏾, you're not alone
(apologies for any typos I missed lol)
