daniel kokotajlo's new film apostasy has it's world premiere at the toronto international film festival in september 2017. apostasy.
family and faith come into conflict for two jehovah’s witness sisters in manchester, when one is condemned for fornication and the other pressured to shun her sibling.. this fresh, unadorned first feature from director dan kokotajlo carries an unmistakable note of authenticity from its very first scenes.
set in a jehovah's witness community in england, the film's strength and power lies in its directness.. apostasy depicts the growing rift in a family — a mother and two daughters — who are rigorously devoted to their religion.

though bible made prophecies about “wars and rumors of war, famines and earthquakes, and persecution, hatred …” as signs of “last days” (mathew 24:6-11) which are neither specific nor extra-ordinary given the history of such events, it failed to foresee the positive development such as communication revolution (e.g.
tv, internet, mobile phone …) which is also favorable to preaching activity—the whole world can be preached to within a matter of hours.
[bible writers thought it would take at least 21 centuries for the whole world to be preached to.—mathew 24:14].
During my "everything is symbolic-conspiracy" phase I believed that the frogs in Revelation 16 represented our internet connected devices(communication revolution) that are everywhere and expose us to satanic influence, see also Exodus 8.
Hey maybe that is why some presidents use twitter.

I was brought up so strictly that at 21 I still thought that I would go blind if I saw a naked woman. For me at 16 a blank message from a girl would probably have counted as sexting.
what is the watchtower going to do when the money runs out ??
?.
Puppets Jehovah will provide.
i think most witnesses are simple minded.many are ignorant.
there are a lot of basically "good people "in the religion but i believe many are kind of dumb, including many elders.
do you agree with my thoughts??
Ignorant: lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.
Then yes, how educated can a puppet be?
warning - vent ahead....... so, my father (still very much in jw but who has at least had the decency to still keep in contact with me and hubby and to show interest in why we aren't attending and respect where we are at) is in intensive care at a local hospital and is intubated and sedated with some serious health issues.
i'm next of kin so i get all the phone calls from the hospital.. so, the rest of the "family" has cut me off because we are inactive and because the ever-active jw gossip grapevine has rumoured with a sibilant slithy hissy voice: "apossstassssy" is the cause of our inactivity.. whatever.. but now i've had to contact said "family" with the news about my father and what is going on....... so, dad's sisters answer my calls and manage to act and conduct themselves with a degree of decorum.. my sister on the other hand - well, she doesn't deign to answer my calls and texts for most of the day.
i push the issue tonight and insist on speaking to her when my brother-in-law answers the call.
I'm disassociated and an "apostate" and it worries me what will happen if my JW mom gets sick or something. Are they even going to let me know because there is no communication at the moment.
I once dreamed I was dressed like the devil (red costume with pitchfork) and threw Molotov cocktails at the local kingdom hall; I hope it was just a dream and not prophetic...sooo much anger building up.
what an arrogant thing to say.. "you shouldn't complain about us knocking on your door.
you should worry when we stop.".
wish i had a snappy response to shove up their pompous ass every time i hear a jw spew this..
"You shouldn't complain about us knocking on your door. You should worry when we stop."
Yes, its true. When they stop knocking it means my rottweiler-pitbull crossing finally did what I was training him for, and I will have to start worrying what to do with the body....
another inconsistency in wt theology:.
jw believe, when armegeddon comes, only jw will survive.
good news was preached in most areas and people could decide for or against god.
I've always wondered how good my paradise experience would be if one of my loved ones did not make the cut. Or would God just remove my memories of them....messy concept IMO.
some things i just didnt notice at the time which now seem so obvious:.
the bible tells us that the end will come like a thief in the night, when we least expect it.
(matthew 24:44).
The OT especially is filled with so much horror, and violence. I find it sad that God did not do more to alleviate this and even promoted mistreatment by laws and instructions.
At times like this I start to think there is no God and people were just on their own mission......extends hand towards anti depressants.....
jws advise that we should not take this illustration as literal saying things such as heaven and hell are not in close proximity so that both the inmates can speak to each other, dipping the tip of one’s finger in water would not be enough to put off one’s thirst …etc.. interestingly, jesus himself did not want his listeners to take this illustration literally or figuratively because he mixed both, hence wanted to get the message typical of any story.
if we were to take the illustration figuratively, who do “dogs that came and licked sores of lazar” symbolize?
also, the rich man in the story makes a powerful point when he says: ‘if someone from the dead is resurrected and speaks his surviving family members on earth, they will repent.’ (luke 16:27-31) the powerful logic used in this argument is to be literal, can’t be figurative because it concerns about literal death of a person and his resurrection.. those who are concerned about determining whether this illustration is literal or figurative miss the simple message of this story: god plays no role in the affairs of man and everyone can learn from experience (own or from others) that there is sowing and reaping, hence everyone is free to choose his destiny..
Venus,
Thanks for the reply to my question, I think I am starting to understand your angle on "God plays no role in the affairs of man" in the OP, and it is surely interesting food for thought.
