If you don't need "worldly" qualifications when you are guided by spirit, why do they employ qualified attorneys and lawyers to defend them?
Surely even a carpenter can defend gods organisation when guided by the spirit of truth.
do any of the current governing body have academic qualifications?.
thanks.
paul.

i've only just stopped laughing.. in my old hall there's a brother who's now claiming to be of the anointed.. he's 28.. i do wonder if he's doing this for attention, if he's awake and messing with them, or if he really is that deluded.
when i was in he was an ms. which surprised even me because only a year earlier than that he was "a bit of a lad", is rubbish at talks and relies on his elder uncle to get him out of trouble all the time.. i guess this now means he's get his pick of jw sisters.
he's been after the same one as the rest of his peers since 2014..
Once there was a visiting brother doing a talk and before he arrived there were rumors that he was anointed going around. After the talk another brother told me he got goosebumps listening to the talk, and could feel the holy spirit working in the speaker, and he was definitely heavenly class. All I felt was indigestion from an unreasonable breakfast.
in natural calamities, everyone (despite one’s faith) is affected.
when one denies god’s existence, he experiences no punishment from him.
when one worships him, he receives no special favor from him.
@deegee
I agree with you points. If we dont accept hearsay, how can we form an idea of how, what, who god is?
Yet people using theories (like the cosmos exist, thus god exists), build views on his existence, abilities, personality, how he acts, what he likes and doesn't like etc. They can even end up deciding if he is christian, muslim etc. They can even end up judging others for their beliefs or lack there of.
Sorry to say that it feels like filling the gap with imagination, not facts. And too big of a leap.

Thanks for finding me on another thread, appreciated!
what do you consider sinful?
okay, i know many of you no longer believe that there is a god.
just bear with me a little, just assumed that there is a creator or god.
deegee,
Some people choose to believe that God exists but that he is not interventionist. He just created the world then went AWOL (deism).
I had a discussion about the quoted belief recently, and I could not grasp the position, because it starts with a belief (the source of which I could not Identify, other than personal choice or human influence), and then a explanation. I don't want to leave JW and then fall into a situation where I follow people again, or use my imagination.
Thanks for the excerpt, much appreciated!
once i left ,i was done.
in over 10 years i didn't return except for my mother's funeral.
did you ever re enter the kh after you left?.
I went back a year or two ago for my moms sake, and when I approached the kh door I was overcome by a literal and very real fear that I would catch fire spontaneously when I entered.......sad I know. The talk turned out to be empty and nauseating, and fortunately I didn't die by fire.

sinboi,
I sympathize with your situation, I'm also going through a similar struggle. That is why I called myself confusedalot. JW's dogma is so strict that it leaves a huge hole inside us. Not only do we struggle with who/how God is, what sin is etc., but also, and maybe more importantly who WE are.
What I'm thinking about at the moment is: Am I able to understand/define/know God without someone(human by word, texts, media, traditions) telling me these things? In all my years God has never told me directly who or what he is and what he requires. People have told me. And if you say the bible told you, I have to say, who told you the bible is Gods word; people, the bible itself, or God directly?
Currently I'm leaning towards atheism, but who knows, tomorrow I may be in tears calling on the name of Jehovah again, unfortunately for some of us this is part of leaving JW. Good luck!

venus,
What suits you may be something else which obviously you need to find out.
I agree, your position on God is a bit out of my reach for now. I will keep searching for something that addresses my current situation. Where I'l end up I'm not sure.
Thank you.
i was told this during my judicial committee (some five years ago) when i brought up concerns i had with the "truth.
" in addition one of the elders (who was an engineer) said once you've accepted a proof of pythagorus' theorem you don't later start doubting that theorem.
i thought that argument was a weak analogy then.
How do you prove its the truth in the first place lol, Hearsay? a feeling? They haven't done that even...hehe
sickening.....

venus,
Thank you for explaining.
It feels like we are talking different languages at the moment. You looked to me like an informed, thoughtful and learned person (as I am sure you are), that's why posted questions in reply to your posts.
The problem is that I need explanations from step one at the moment, and you keep explaining from step two. The position from where you are explaining is one where you already believe there is a God. And you make sense of his actions and inaction in an imaginative way that brings relief and answers and for that I am thankful.
Problem is that I am stuck at step one at the moment: Asking why invoke God, why invoke a christian God(new testament quotes), why use the word God in the first place? Why invoke a God that does not want to be identified (you seem to have identified him though)?
When we use biblical references, how do we determine which are misinterpretations, and which are not? Surely there must be some foundation from where we can analyse these texts objectively. And it is this foundation I am interested in. Does it come from hearsay (religion, ancient texts and modern texts etc.), personal religious experience, divine communication etc?
Let me try and make it as clear as possible:
I need help getting to step 2 from step 1. (I was at 2, 3, 4 etc. for a long time. Being born into JW they made me believe there is no step 1)
I fear that you have been told there is a God. I think it would be more acceptable to me if you told me you had a spiritual experience, or God talked to you, because then I can wait and hope to have a similar experience.
How have you identified a God that is not involved in the actions/lives of men and does not want to be Identified? Are your abilities of discernment greater than his of concealment?
Thank you for taking time to reply, and be sure I am not trying to be negative or argumentative. And I hope I haven't caused offence. I am in a bad place at the moment, my joking on other threads is just a cover as I am deeply troubled/confused regarding God and religion at the moment.
